Chapter 7: Close Calls And Another Problem

We were with some of the elves that kept our location secret, just checking in, when one spots an airplane on the radar.

"They're coming right at us!" She says.

"Take us to Elfcon 3!" Bernard instructs, and quickly starts working where she was. I wasn't exactly sure what he was doing, but it seemed to have no effect. "These guys aren't stopping. Take us to Elfcon 2!"

Another elf announced it over the intercom, and everyone started messing with the controls until Scott came up, looking through the periscope.

"We have a partridge in a pear tree," He says, "You take us to Elfcon 1. Silent running."

Alarms started going off and Bernard was frantically working at the controls until there was silence, and the only sounds heard was the plane flying overhead. That was, until we suddenly heard music.

"Find out where that's coming from." Scott whispers, and another elf starts tracking it. When he found the source, he called us over and showed us the map, with a red dot flashing in the stables.

Scott, Bernard, and I quickly and quietly made our way over, where we saw Curtis playing with a dancing Santa toy. Scott quickly put a hand over his mouth to keep him from making any noise while I turned it off. We waited until the "all clear" was announced over the intercom.

"How about we get you a nice set of headphones this Christmas?" Scott says before walking away, and calling us after him.

The three of us continued to follow Scott around the workshop, and when we got to the tinsel boys, they dumped all of their baskets on us. I didn't pay attention to what Scott was saying to them afterward as I tried to help clean it up, but I did hear something about football. Two other elves came with the baskets and started picking up the tinsel on the floor, while I pulled off what fell on me, and picking off a few strands that were on Bernard.

"Curtis, you need to tell him right now." He said as I helped clean up.

"I don't know," Curtis responds, "he seems so happy right now. And why do I have to be the one to tell him?"

"Because," Bernard says, "I'm the head elf. I don't give bad news. It's one of the perks of my seniority."

"Why can't Alice tell him?"

"Because something like this would totally make sense coming from me." I say with a hint of sarcasm.

"Now that that's settled," Bernard says, "Tell him."

When we got outside, the game was just getting started. It didn't really last long either. Most of them just distracted Scott while one of them ran off with the ball, winning the game. They all proceeded to pile on Scott for a bit before heading back to the workshop. The three of us then came up to Scott and told him we needed to talk, and made way to his office.
