Chapter 20: Things Are Getting Worse, And I Can't Stop It
~Third Person POV~
Lucy watched as Scott worked his magic on the broken toys and made a new one out of them. When Scott presented it, Lucy cheered with the other elves as they all went back to work. She then asked Scott if she could see his snowball collection, and Scott agreed. The two raced up the stairs to the room where unknown to them, Alice Lennox was frozen in the closet.
Curious, Jack quietly followed them from a distance, but when he entered the room, no one was there. They couldn't have left, because he would have seen them. Where did they go? Did they know about what he did to Alice? Everything else was exactly how he left it, so they couldn't have found her. His thoughts were interrupted when one of the walls with a Red Deer machine started to rotate. He quickly leaned against the wall and heard Scott and Lucy talking on the other side of it. The wall stopped moving, and he found what he had been looking for. He stepped into the Hall of Snow Globes and took the one on the stand in the center, safely assuming it was Scotts. He then went back to the machine, but then realized he had no idea how to get out.
Meanwhile, Ella, Carol, Bud, and Sylvia were decorating the tree and hanging other decorations up.
"Do you want me to put the tree topper on while I'm up here?" Ella asks.
"Do you mind if we save it for Scott?" Carol asks, "He always puts the tree topper on."
"Of course." Ella replies.
"Hi, honey, I'm back." Scott says, entering the room.
"Oh honey, are you ok?" Carol asks.
"Great." Scott replies. "Good news is I get to spend time with you guys."
Not long after that, Curtis arrived and pulled him aside with another issue. While that was going on, Bernard had finally returned from delivering the other Frost standees to Mother Nature. He had expected to see Alice waiting for him, but he also expected that she was probably busy. He looked for her, but all he found was the workshop in chaos. What had happened while he was away?
He headed back to Scott's place and found him and the others. "Hey, I'm back. What's going on?"
"There's been some problems." Carol explains quietly, not wanting to talk about it.
Ella was the next to notice him and got down from the ladder she was on. "Hello, Bernard. How nice to see you again."
"Ella, it's been a while." He says "What a surprise to see you too. Have you seen Alice around? I can't seem to find her?"
"Last I saw, She had something she needed to do. I don't know where she is."
Sylvia and Bud gave the male elf an odd look before Carol introduced him as Alice's husband. They seemed satisfied with that and went back to what they were doing while Ella excused herself to find Lucy, and maybe Alice.
And where was Lucy? Skipping around the workshop with her new snow globe that Scott gave her. She passed by the room with the vending machines when she heard something, and looked inside to see Frost with Scott's snowglobe.
"That's Uncle Scott's snow globe." She says, "You're not supposed to have that."
"I know." Frost replies, "Isn't it great?"
"It's not great at all." Lucy says, "You've done a terrible thing. You'll be on the naughty list for the rest of your life."
"Ah, but naughty list people have more fun."
"I'm going for help." Lucy says, "I'll get Miss Alice. She'll stop you."
"I wouldn't do that." Frost says.
Lucy ignored the second part of what he said as she exited the room and saw Ella. "Mrs. Lennox! Over here! Come Quick!"
"Lucy?" Ella asks, running over to her and into the room. "What's wrong?"
Suddenly, Frost closes the door behind them, drawing their attention before walking over to the closet and opening the door to reveal Alice.
"I told you not to do that." He says, "Besides, Alice is right here."
"Jack Frost took Uncle Scott's snow globe, and he knows that it's not his." Lucy tells Ella, too caught up to notice Alice. Ella, however, did notice her.
"Alice?" Ella asks.
This served as the perfect distraction as Frost's skin turned blue, and he let out an icy breath which froze Ella the same way he had with Alice. Lucy yelled for him to stop as he did so, but he ignored her.
"What did you do?" Lucy asked horrified once he stopped.
"I froze them." He replies, "Now am I going to have to do the same thing to you? Or are you going to get into that closet and stay there without saying a word?" Lucy quietly and reluctantly walked inside as he shut the door and locked it before leaving.
When he found the others, Scott was on the phone with Curtis about some other problem, and Bernard had left to go try and sort out some of the chaos and look for Alice. Frost once again took the opportunity to cause more problems and rig the tree to fall when no one was looking. When Sylvia asked about Ella and Lucy, Frost made up an excuse that they were taking with the locals. He then silently watched as the tree fell over and the family drama reached its climax before luring Scott outside and tricking him into the Escape Clause, taking the red coat for himself.
