Chapter 13: I Wish There Was Another Way Back
I had no idea how long I had been flying, but when I finally made it, the jetpack started to fail, and I crashed into the snow. I then got up, removed the jetpack, and started to brush the snow off as I made my way to the door and rang the bell. A little girl answered the door a moment later.
"Hi, is Scott here?" I asked her.
"Who are you?" she asked.
"I'm Alice, a friend from work."
"Are you an elf?"
"Of course not. What makes you think so?"
"Why do you have pointy ears?"
"Oh, these? They look so real, don't they? It's amazing what you can do with makeup."
"Who is it, Lucy?" I hear Scott say from inside the house.
Lucy didn't say anything, and ran back inside, so I followed her. I had almost forgotten what Scott looked like before, but he certainly looked like that now.
"Alice?" He asks when he sees me. "What are you doing here?"
"We have a problem back at the office." I say.
Scott then explains to Lucy that I'm a close family friend, and that I work with him, before sending her to bed.
"So what's the problem?" He asked.
"The Toy Santa's lost it! He's locked up the elves, shut down the workshop, he thinks everyone's naughty, and plans to give the whole world coal!"
"What? Why didn't Bernard come tell me about this?"
"You did hear the part where I said 'locked up the elves' right? The Toy got to him first."
"Bernard?"
"Yes! Now we need to get back to the Pole and save Christmas!"
"I can't, I'm out of magic."
"Didn't you take Comet?" I ask.
"Right! Come on!"
We went out to the backyard where we found Comet lying among many candy wrappers. We tried to get him up, but the reindeer clearly wasn't going anywhere.
"What about your jetpack?" Scott asks.
I looked at the fuel tank, and it was empty.
"There was only enough to get me here. I kinda took the first one I saw without looking."
"Well, what am I supposed to do? Grow wings?"
