Killer twins

"Ahhh! What a beautiful day it is today! Isn't it my Alice?" Hatter sang as we strolled through town.
"Hey! Don't go acting all innocent!" I yelled.
When I had been so sleepy that I slept through Hatters Rina alarm clock and his flirting session of trying to get me up, the asstard literally dragged me out of bed and hung me from the window. Saying, if I didn't get up, he would drop me. I was still so furious! But I couldn't not believe he would go to such lengths to wake me up.
"Are you still mad at me???" He pouted. Making a cute sad face.
"You hung me from a window! Why the hell wouldn't I be mad?!"
"Here's a Balloon lick!"
"Don't bribe me happiness!" I growled. But stared intently at the balloon.
"You know you want it." He continued, sticking the balloon in front of me. Not being able to hold back from the craving, I snatched it from his hand and started licking it.
"See! Works like a charm!" He chirped, taking out a Teapop.
"This doesn't count!" I reminded him. After a while of peace and quiet I asked, "So Hatter, why do you like tea so much?" I've been wanting to know that since I met him. It's like he never goes anywhere without any source of tea.
"Because it calms me." he replied.
"Have you had tea ever since you were a kid?" That would explain why he was so obsessed with it.
"No. I started drinking tea when I had problems." He stated.
"What kind of problems?" I asked, savoring the flavor of the balloon.
"What about you? Didn't you say you wanted to go home? What was it like there?" He kicked a pebble, sending it flying.
"Huh? What are you talki- Oh!" I can't believe I had forgotten about home! I'm such an idiot! "Well home was..." Huh? What happened at home again? I remember sis and me. So why can't I remember doing things? Oh I remember something! "Well I remember falling down a hole while chasing a rabbit before I got here! But as I fell I kinda remember sis screaming something about not following the rabbit... I don't know! I forgot!" I explained, trying to remember details of what happened.
"A rabbit...." Hatter mumbled. He stopped licking his Teapop and asked, "Can't you recall any memories Alice?"
"Hmm well, whenever I try to recall them, nothing pops up. All I can remember is that I have a sister and that I fell down a rabbit hole. But sometimes I have flashbacks..." I rambled on. "Oh! I do remember that me and sis like the smell of laven-" I immediately covered my mouth with my hands. I need to learn to keep my mouth shut!
"What is it my Alice?" He asked, going back to his Teapop.
"W-what about you? Did you fall into wonderland like I did? Or were you always here?" I quickly changed the subject over to him.
"..... I was always here!" He said cheerfully.
"Were you lonely?"
"....Nope! I had Rina and the other puppets to keep me company! And a few friends. Right Rina?" He patted Rina's head.
"That sounds lonely." I commented. Talking to dolls is always a sign of loneliness.
"Why would that sound lonely?" He asked confused.
"Because your talking to dolls!"
"Rina is not a doll, she is puppet. And she is my friend!"
"Rina is fake."
"No she's not!"
"Yes she is! Look at her!" I pointed at Rina. All she looked like was a creepy doll sitting on his shoulder. To me, she was kinda cute, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that was the reason the faceless inhabants were afraid of him.
"I'm telling you Alice! Rina is real!" He protested.
"Sure she is..." I said sarcastically.
"Watch! Rina wave to Alice!" He ordered the puppet.
Surprisingly, Rina waved her hand in the air. But I still didn't believe him. For all I know he could've pulled strings while I was watching Rina. But remembering the puppet show yesterday and that this is Wonderland... "Hatter, you don't have to pretend in front of me. Just tell me the truth."
"Alliiicee! I'm telling the truuth!" He whined. Was he really that convinced she was real, or was he really telling me the truth. "Look! Rina! Jump off of my shoulder and climb on Alice's head!"
Suddenly, Rina jumped off of Hatters shoulder and onto the ground. When I glanced at Hatters hands, they weren't pulling strings. Then Rina started jumping at my legs like a child wanting to be held. At that moment, I knew he wasn't lying.
"Holy crap it moved!"
"Because she's alive Alice!"
"Sh-shes alive!?"
"Yeeeesss! That's what I've been telling you this whole time!" He said.
"H-how?" I stuttered, picking her up and examining her.
"I made her!" He proudly said.
"But. How did you get her to move and do those weird tricks though?..." I asked, amazed.
"You mean the puppet show stuff? Easy! I'm the master of puppet making!" He proudly announced.
"Wow... This is amazing!" I exclaimed cuddling her in my arms.
"Hey! Stop it Alice! You might break her!"
"Don't worry, I won't." I put her on my shoulder and licked my Balloon lick.
"Give her back! She has to be with me!"
"Rina, point to who you want to sit with." I told her. It took a few seconds for her to choose and like I hoped, she chose me."See? She chose me! She likes me more!"
"Rina! Why would you want to sit with Alice?" Hatter asked looking hurt. And Rina replied. Though I don't know what she said. "Fine. But just for today okay?" Rina nodded.
"Here, you wanna try a balloon lick Rina?" I asked her, but she shook her head.
"She said no because she can't eat since her mouth is sowed shut." Hatter translated, sucking his Teapop in one hand, and shoving his hand into his pocket in the other. Skipping around."Hey Alice! You wanna go to the toy store today?" Hatter turned to glance at me. "It's near the exit so we can go before we leave."
"Ya sure!" I said, looking at him. His eyes brightened and he smiled sadly, mumbling something under his breath.
"What's wrong Hatter?"
"Oh! It's nothing my Alice! You just look so cute in that dress of yours!" He complemented, ruffling my hair.
I blushed. "Grrr.... Shut up you stupid dog!" I shouted, and started chasing him.

"My, my. They are much trouble! Don't you agree brother?" Someone whispered from behind a bush.
"I certainly do brother. Especially uncle Hatter! He seems to be having fun with that girl." Another person said from behind the bush.
"Who is the girl? His girlfriend? She's pretty." The boy gasped.
"Ooooh! How about we scare her!" His brother suggested.
"But uncle Hatter will get mad!"
"No he won't!"
"Yes he will!"
"Will not!"
"Will too!" The two boys started arguing.
"Hey do you hear that Hatter?" I stopped chasing him, and searched for the sound of the two voices.
"Haha! Those two are always a ruckus! C'mon, follow me Alice! I want you to meet them!" He grabbed my hand and walked me towards a bush. "Okay Alice. On three we're going to scare them!" Hatter whispered.
"Kay" I whispered back. I wonder who we're scaring.
"I'm telling you uncle Hatter will get mad brother!"
"One"
"Don't be silly brother! We do it all the time!"
"Two"
"But this time he's got a girl!"
"Three!"
"Hey wait, where'd the-"
"Boo!" Me and Hatter jumped out from the other side of the bush, startling them.
"Ahhhh!" They both yelled.
"You forgot to look again, Dee!" Dum complained.
"Well it was your fault for starting the argument, Dum!"
"You're so stupid, Dee!"
"You're the stupid one, Dum!"
"No I'm not! You are!" They started arguing again.
"Ya'll are both stupid. Now look who's here!" Hatter interrupted, getting their attention immediately.
They both turned their heads at the same time and cheered, "Uncle Hatter!!!!" Jumping from the bush and onto him. Wait! Uncle?! I looked from them to him, they defiantly did not look blood related. The two brothers were twins that looked to be about 12, both having blonde hair and blue eyes. They wore black and white striped beanies, and black sweatershirts too big for their size. Their jeans were tan and baggy, and their shoes were white with untied black shoe laces. They looked nothing like Hatter.
"Uncle?" I asked Hatter, and he just shrugged as he let them tackle him to the ground.
"Hey uncle Hatter! Is that lady over there your girlfriend?" Dum asked, pointing at me. My face went red.
"What?! Nev-"
"Yup!" Hatter answered, giving me an I'm-sorry look.
"Whaaa?! She is? Can we still hit on her?" Dee asked as Hatter got up and dusted off his pants.
"Nope! Sorry! She's off limits!" He cheerfully warned, patting their heads. What?! Hit on me? They're like twelve!
"Aww! Can we play with her?" Dum asked.
"Why don't you go ask her?" He said.
The twins ran over to me. "Can we play with you miss?" They both asked me in their cutest faces.
I guess It couldn't hurt to play with them. I thought."Sure!" I smiled.
"Yay!!!! Miss is gonna play with us!" They both cheered.
"So what are ya'lls name?" I asked nervously, looking over at Hatter who gave me a reassuring smile.
"I'm Dee!"
"And I'm Dum!"
"Haha! You just admitted you were dumb!"
"Shut up Dee! All you do is eat!"
As they argued I ask Hatter,"Why did you do that? Pretend that I'm your girlfriend."
"Cause. You heard what they said, and I'm the only one who gets to hit on you." He whispered.
"Im just gonna pretend I didn't hear that." I ignored him, looking at the boys. "Do they always fight like this?"
"Yup. Sometimes it can get a little rough." He warned, "but don't be fooled by their cuteness, thats how they capture their prey."
"They're prey?" I questioned.
"Ya, they eat faceless."
"Faceless?!"
"You know, they would make good guard dogs, they're pretty strong. And the faceless stay away from them as much as possible." He suggested.
"Why would they eat faceless?! That's! That's just!" I couldn't finish the sentence. That was just too gross. Definitely!don't be fooled by their cuteness!
"Because, whenever there's a faceless death like the one yesterday and the other day they get rid of it. The twins clean up Wonderlands trash. Not just faceless but characters who did not play they're role right. They practically eat anything so they would also make good vacuums." He joked. Going back to licking his Teapop.
"Characters who did not play their role right?"
"Mmhmm... If you don't follow the story, you die. For example, if I were to obey Cat and I disobeyed him, he would kill me and feed me to the twins, which we call the cleansers. Dee's job is to dispose of trash and write down who he ate, so that Dum can make a new vessel for the character. But they basically have the same job so that if one of them disobeyed and were disposed of, the other would make a new twin, those are their roles. Dee just does the eating job more than Dum does." Hatter explained to me, like it was a normal conversation. But nothing can be normal here can it?
"Story? What story?" I asked him.
"Its nothing you need to worry about Alice. You're doing just fine. Just don't anger them." He assured me. "Dee! Dum! I thought you wanted to play with Alice?"
"Is that her name? Alice! Alice! Alice!" They ran up to me grabbing my hand and dragged me somewhere.
What did he mean by "doing just fine"? and if the twins have a role, then what's Hatters?...

"So how do you play the game again?" I questioned.
They had dragged me to a park and when we got there they wanted me to play hide and seek with them. When I looked behind me, Hatter wasn't there, and the twins said that Hatter would sit this one out.
"Okay! So we have to hide and you have to find us! And if you can't find us within.... Two minutes! Then you have to give us two of your Balloon licks!" Dee explained, pointing at my wrist that the balloon was tied to.
"Wait what? I'm not giving you any-"
"C'mon Dum! We got a head start! Hurry and count to twenty Alice!" They started running.
"W-wait! Ugh!" I guess I have no choice do I? I closed my eyes.
"One"
"Two..."
After twenty seconds of counting, I opened my eyes and called out,"Ready or not! Here I come!"
I walked around searching for any sign of the twins. Footprints, sound, movement. But there was nothing there.
Suddenly, Rina tapped my shoulder and pointed to her left. She was so quiet I barely noticed she was there. I followed her gaze, walking quietly towards where she was pointing.
As I got closer I noticed two blonde bobs sticking out from a yellow bush. If Rina hadn't been here I don't think I'd have ever found them.
"Haha! She'll never find us here! Now she has to give us a Balloon lick!" Dum whispered.
"Ya, you picked a good spot!" Dee replied.
Once I walked close enough to touch them, I counted in my head. One..... Two... Three!
"Gotcha!" Huh? Where'd they go?
"You're so stupid Dum! I knew we should've hid behind the tree she was counting from!"
"What?! But you just said I picked a good spot!"
This time they sat atop a tall tree, arguing as always.
"Hey! I can't climb that high! No fair!" I complained. I had almost got them!
"Well then me and Dum will stay here til the game is over! That way we can win and get a Balloon lick!"
"Get down! You're cheating!"
"How can we be cheating when we didn't set any rules?" Dee asked.
"Yay we're gonna-" Dum was cut off by Rina.
"Sssssss!" Rina made an angry noise. Strings bursting from her arm and wrapping around the boys necks. Then she threw them towards me which gave me the chance to tag them. Once I tagged them, Rina released her hold on the boys and let them fall to the ground with a loud thump.
"Ouch! Hey that's unfair Rina! We didn't use our strings!" Dum complained.
"Alice!!! Your such a cheater!" Dee whined.
"Well, you did say there weren't any rules." I reminded them.
"Aww! Darn! Alice is right! We shouldn't have said that. Okay you win this time Alice..." Dee said.
After the game of hide and seek we met up with Hatter who said he went to get some supplies for Rina. He must've been really worried that I might break her. Then he suggested that we all go to the toy store before we left.

"Wow! Look at all the toys Alice!" Dee said. Grabbing my arm.
"Ya lots and lots of toys!" Dum replied. Hooking himself to me.
"I would appreciate it if you two didn't cling to her so much..." Hatter mumbled.
"Oh sorry uncle Hatter!" They both apologized. "We almost forgot that you claimed her!"
"Claimed m-" Before I could finish my sentence, Hatter wrapped one of his arms around me and covered my mouth with his hand.
"We wouldn't want to upset them now would we my Alice?" He whispered, putting his chin on my shoulder and let me go.
"Ooooh look at this one brother!" Dee said to Dum. It was two twin cats. One was black, and the other was white. Both wearing a red beanie hat.
"I want that one!" They both said at the same time, grabbing opposite cats. Dee picked the black cat, and Dum picked the white one. "Can you buy this for us uncle Hatter?" They begged.
"Sure!" He chuckled. And brought the cats to the counter. While they paid I caught my eye on something, a white rabbit.
And suddenly, I was remembering something again.

"Here, take this little guy and show him to your sister." A boy with ragged clothes said handing me a stuffed rabbit.
"Wow! Thank you!"
He smiled,"if he ever gets messed up come back here and I fix him up.
"I'll be sure to come back! B-but I won't break him! I promise! Bye!" I waved, running away from the cemetery.

"Sis! Look at this!" I ran towards my sister, holding the rabbit.
"Aww! It's so cute! Where'd you get that?"
"A boy gave it to me! While I was at the cemetery!" I replied happily.
"Honestly Alice. You really need to stop going there."
"But we never get caught. Besides, they'll never find out since they think we died too. And I wear this hoodie to hide my face." I explained.
She sighed."So who was the boy you met?"
"Actually, I don't know. But he said if the rabbit rips or messes up just meet him back there and he'll fix it. I might go meet him again anyway though."
"Just be careful Alice." She warned.
"Well, what happened to you?" I asked about the guy she had met the other day and had a tea party with. She seemed to like him a lot.
"Oh! Well he's going to come over again tomorrow if that's okay.
"Okay!" Well maybe one day we coul-"

"Alllicce!" Hatter called, shoving Rina in my face as the twins jumped around in circles around calling out my name, "Alice Alice Alice!"
"Huh? Oh sorry!" I apologized.  I must've zoned out again.
"If you want the rabbit that badly, I'll buy him for you." Hatter offered.
"Oh no. I was just looking at it-"
"Nonsense! You must have it!" He snatched the rabbit out of my grasp and brought it to the desk.
"Yay! Alice has a toy just like us now!" The twins cheered, still jumping around in circles.
"Here you go my Alice!" Hatter said, happily giving me the rabbit.
"Thank you." I muttered.
"Anything for my little Alice." He whispered, wrapping his arms around my torso.
"Hatter..." I warned.
"Sorry, sorry." He surrendered and let go of me, holding his hands up. Then he quickly looked away.
"Hey Alice! Have Ya'll two kissed yet?" Dee asked.
"Ehh?! No!"
"No? So when are Ya'll going to kiss?" Dum wondered. Please don't ask me to kiss him! Please don't ask me to kiss him!
"Whenever she's ready." Hatter answered for me.
"Are you ready now?" Dum asked.
"Don't ask such a dumb question brother! Why would she be ready right now?"Dee said
"Shut up! At least I asked! Don't you want to see them kiss?"
"Ew! No way!"
"Well I would!"
"Your so gr-" guessing the Hatter had it with their arguing, he bonked their heads together with one loud *BONK*.
"Owwww!"they both cried.
"Quit the whining we're leaving!" He ordered. He seemed irritated.
"You okay Hatter?" I asked worriedly.
"Hm? Ya I'm fine! How do you like your rabbit!"
"Why'd you give him to me?"
"Huh? Oh! Because you were staring at him, so I thought that you really liked him!" He said quickly.
I giggled.
"What is it Alice?"
"Haha! Nothing. You just so look cute when your nervous."
"Hmmm? Then you wanna try out that kiss?" He asked leaning forward close enough that our foreheads touched. My cheeks went red.
But I leaned closer, showing him who's boss and warned intimidatingly,"Try me. I'm not going anywhere."
Surprised by my comment he backed away scratching his head and looked down. He looked frustrated. Like he was trying not to straight out punch someone. And then he put on a that guarded expression of his, the one he always wore whenever he was going insane. Then I noticed his cheeks were red. Wait. Is he blushing or is he just really mad?
"Okay, quit looking at the toys, it's time to go!" Hatter said, putting on a smile.
"Aww okay! C'mon Alice!" They looped their arms through mine, and skipped away.

When we got to the exit, I was time to say goodbye.
"Noooo! Alice! Don't leave us!!!" Dee cried.
"Uncle Hatter, can't y'all stay a little bit longer?" Dum pleaded.
"Nope sorry guys! But she has to go to the Hearts castle!"
"But if she goes there, then she'll have to k-" Hatter covered Dum's mouth before he could say anything else and gave him a warning look.
"I think it's time for us to go, right Rina?" He asked, patting her head.
"Awww! See what you did Dum? You made them leave early!"
"Don't worry guys, I'll come back!" I promised patting their heads like Hatter did.
"You will?" They both asked hopefully.
"Of course I will. And when I get back I'll buy you all the Balloon licks you want." I said.
"Thank you Alice!" They hugged me tightly and let go. Seeing me off.
"Don't forget what you just said Alice!" Dum reminded me as we walked away. Then Dee punched him in the shoulder.
"Your the one who forgets everything Dum! Dumb Dum! Dumb Dum!" He teased.
"Hey shut up!" They started arguing again.

"So where to next?" I asked.

"Catapiller's Nest."
