Catti
"So what is this place called?" I asked, as I hugged my new rabbit tightly to my chest, walking through a weird forest with icy blue grass and huge colorful mushrooms followed by flowers and creatures I've never seen before. It looked different from the other forest I was in when I arrived in Wonderland.
"Wildflare."He answered. Licking his tea pop.
"Wildflare?"
"Ya. If you came here at night you'd understand why."
"Oh okay. So what are we going to do when we get to Cattapiller nest."
"You'll see once we get there." He said. "By the way you might be able to find Cat lying around here somewhere."
Cats here? I had to find him. I've been wanting to ask him what he meant by not trusting the queen. But maybe I can get more details by tricking Hatter into saying why. I guess I'll give it a try.
"... So Hatter... What's this queen you're taking me to like." I asked licking my balloon. Suddenly it popped. So I replaced it with a new one.
"The Queen? Hmmm... Well, she really likes heads and loves the color red..." He said sticking a teapop in his mouth.
"Whys she like heads?" I asked.
"So she can paint her roses red." He simply said. " it's a hobby of hers."
Interesting hobby... "So do you serve the queen?"
"No. I'm just a friend of hers..." He looked into the distance. Watching the weird creatures fly around. The queen didn't sound suspicious at all. Wait what is that? Suddenly something flew in front of my face in a blur. Leaving a feather behind, floating to the ground. "What's this?" I asked Hatter, picking the strange silver feather up.
"Oh! That's a Tiga feather! This ones a she."
"A Tiga?"
"Yes. See, look at that one over there!" He pointed to a Tiga perched on a flower."Due to his black wings, he must be a boy." I searched for the Tiga and looked at him. He looked like a tiger but way smaller. Like maybe the size of my hand, and his fur was golden with black swirls around his body instead of stripes. He had white horns from his head to his tail, with green eyes and black wings.
"Wow, he's pretty." I stared at the Tiga and continued walking, licking my balloon.
"Yup! Did you see the fairies yet? They don't come around at this time of day but some do."
"No, what do they look like?"
"There are all different kinds of fairies, so they're all different types of colors and some are bad! So we should be careful, right Rina?" He patted her head.
"Um, are the fairies and Tiga scared of us."
"Well, it depends on the type of fairy. As for the Tiga, they don't give a shit about anything." He explained."Oh look at this my Alice! It's a little tree house." he walked up to the tree door and touched it."You wanna sleep here for tonight my Alice?"
"But doesn't someone live here?"
He opened the door. "No. Random people come here all the time. But I always claimed a certain room." He told me.
We walked in. There were chairs and tables everywhere. Each one having a slice of half eaten or no cake and empty cups of tea. "Was there a party here?" I guessed.
"Probably so. That must mean Timothy was around here. He never finishes his tea party's." He shook his head in disappointment, grabbing a half eaten piece of cake and biting into it. "Well. At least tonight's tea party won't just be you and me!" He cheered.
"Who's Timothy? Is he gonna be joining us?"
"Yes he will be joining us. C'mon let's check this place out."
The tree house wasn't really that big, but it was a tall dark oak. There were three floors. The first floor was the kitchen filled with tea cups, plates, silverware, and normal kitchen supplies. The floor and ceiling had a dark green color, having dark oak spread through the kitchen. The living room and dining room had the same thing with more branches filling in the room. The second floor was a bunch of bathrooms and bedrooms for the random people who came here and a storage room that had bags and empty boxes. The third floor had two doors. The first door I went in led to a play room full of creepy cute toys staring at me so I quickly closed the door, and when I tried to open the second door it wouldn't budge like it was some sort of painting. Hmm... It has a doorknob but it won't open. Knowing Wonderland, it could be some type of spell keeping it closed. I decided to leave it alone for now and go downstairs to Hatter.
"Ready to go my Alice?" He asked.
"Mmhmm..." I nodded.
After we left we got hungry and decided to eat somewhere. But the problem was, there was no place to eat!
"I'm hungry..." I grumbled, clutching my rabbit to my chest.
"Well you're gonna have to get used to it. We'll be sleeping in that tree for two days."
"Two days? Can't we just rent a hotel or something? And why are we staying here for two days?"
"Because, I need to contact a few friends while we're here. And the treehouse is free."
"...... But I'm gonna be so hungry....." I whimpered. Getting out my balloon lick to famish me.
"Don't worry my Alice! We're almost there." He assured me, ruffling my hair.
My face went red. I hate him and his stupid attractiveness! If only he was ugly....
"Hey look over there Alice! Its Dodo!" He exclaimed, pointing to a huge bird with blue feathers and a pink beak with white stripes. The bird sat on a rock pecking at the strange flying fish in the pond, then fell in and got stabbed by the fish with their speared noses.
"Whys it called Dodo?"
"Because hes a dummy silly! Look at him!" I followed his gaze as I watched the dodo bird being pecked to death by the fish he was trying to catch. "Need help over there Dodo?" Hatter called to the bird. So I'm guessing the bird talks. Great! Now I'm answering my own questions. That's a sign that I'm going mad!
"N-no! I'm f-fine!" The bird yelled back. Flying out of the water with flying fish biting into him. "Ouch! Grrr... Get off!!!" He flapped his wings so hard, the fish were either tossed into oblivion or right in front of us. "Damn crowfish!" He muttered under his breath as he flew towards us.
"Careful, he has a short temper." Hatter warned quietly. "Hey Dodo! Still doing the caucus race?" Hatter waved.
"Ya! You want to try to beat me?" Dodo challenged, landing in front of us. Other than his huge feet, he wasn't a very large bird. Maybe a tiny bit bigger than a hawk though.
"No thanks. I gotta escort my lovely Alice!" He replied, ruffling my hair.
"Quit doing that!" I yelled.
"Um... So are you Alice?" Dodo asked me shyly.
"Yup! The one and only!" I smiled at him, which cheered him up.
"Do you want to beat me in the caucus race?"
"Well how do you pl-"
"No sorry Dodo. We haft to go to Caterpillars nest right now. Right Alice?" Hatter said.
"Uh, yes I almost forgot about that." I responded.
"Well, can Ya'll at least play tomorrow?" Dodo asked irritated.
"No sorry Dodo. Alice has a long journey to go on. But you can join the tea party tonight!" Hatter offered.
"Ok! Yay a tea party! Where is it?"
"Go to the treehouse at 6:00."
"Ok! I'm gonna go try to catch fish for now bye!" Dodo turned around and flapped his wings towards to pond while grumbling, "They don't have time for a caucus race but they haft to have a tea party. Bullshit."
"What's with him?" I whispered to Hatter who was rubbing his temple.
"He's just a little brat don't worry about him." He replied happily. "I hate inviting him to my tea party though."
"What's wrong with that?"
"He talks too much and complains. He has no patience for anyone and if he doesn't like something he ruins it for everyone else." Hatter complained as he ripped a weird fiery looking leaf from a dark, dark, brown looking tree and ripped it into pieces. The leaf was very thick so it looked like it had to take some effort tearing it apart. But he was smiling the whole time.
"So then why did you invite him?"
"Because. He never has anybody to play with him. It's not like I care but it's that if I didn't invite him to the tea party he'd probably never leave us alone since he's soooo lonely. That little shit." He forced a laugh.
Here goes his mood swings again. Ill switch the topic. "So what's a caucus race?"
"Oh. a caucus race is an endless race that you run. It's a pretty simple game, and there are no rules to it."
"Sounds fun. How do you play?"
"Well, basically you run around in circles waiting for something interesting to happen till you decide to stop. When you decide to stop running you die. Once there is no one left to play the game it ends, but there is always one person left in the game. That person has to find new players to play the game because when there is only one player, there is a chance that the game will end. As the game goes on the last player gets the prize of having the life of the players who died. So they live longer to find new players. If the last player dies before finding any new players even with the longer lifespan then the game ends. Though, I always thought that was pointless. What's the point in living longer just so you can find a reason to live and die in the end anyway. But if I do ever get bored I'll join the caucus race." Hatter explained.
"So is Dodo the last player?"
"He's been the last player about three times now. He's the longest lasting last player. But he hasn't been able to find any friends to race with him." He continued. "Plus, that attitude of his will get him nowhere."
"Hmm... Hey Hatter isn't that a restaurant over there?" I pointed to a building that had a sign that said, Muffet and Mike with a pic that had certain foods that I never seen or heard of before.
"Well then, shall we eat there?" Hatter suggested.
We walked in the building. There were many faceless black eyed people eating and laughing and talking at tables and whenever we walked in it went quiet. Everyone started muttering.
"Isn't that the Hatter?"
"He's with a girl."
"What are they doing here?"
"Are they dating?"
"She probably works for him."
"Shut up, we don't want to anger them. Just act like they're not there."
The mutters disappeared and people started talking normally, but kept their eyes on us the whole time.
We walked up to a desk with a lady who wasn't faceless. When she looked up her smile faltered. Looking at us franticly she said, "Um h-hi l-let me show you to your seats."
She brought us to a small table by a window with two chairs and sat us down across from each other, glancing at us every few seconds. "H-here's your menus." And she turned heel and sped walked away.
I set down my rabbit in my lap and stroking his head I asked, "Um... Hatter... Why is she so scared of us. Not only her but the faceless too." I asked quietly.
".... Let's just say we don't have a very good past together." He shrugged. Due to that, I knew he wasn't planning on telling me more.
"Well, are the drinks here normal?" I asked, scanning the menu.
"You can count on it!" He gave me a thumbs up and winked. "They've got spider springs, dip pots, carrot top, mu-"
"Do they at least have water?"
"Yup!"
"And I'm guessing you're ordering more tea?"
"Only my tea is the best my Alice! don't forget that! So I will be getting fibcats!" He reminded me while patting Rina's head. Rina held one of her hands up and pushed Hatters hand away.
"Fib... Cats." I stared at him in utter annoyance and stupidity.
"Yes fibcats my Alice! You've never had it? It tastes like what you call... cotton candy!" He explained happily trying to pat Rina's head again.
"Cotton candy... I do like cotton candy."
"then get fibcats! Right Rina?" He suggested while trying to touch her head. But she kept pushing his hands away making noises.
"Rrrrrrrrrrr..." She said.
"Why not Rina?" Hatter questioned her. "Aww your no fun!" He put his hands back in his lap and looked out the window. After a few minutes he asked me, "So Alice, when you went to Wonderland did you see the Ra-"
"S-so what would you like m-ma'am?" A waitress interrupted and asked me while frantically glancing at him the whole time.
"Umm..." I looked back at the menu. I can either get a water or cotton candy fibcats... And I do like cotton candy..."I'll go with a fibcats please." I smiled.
The lady looked at me surprised. "U-uh o-okay and you sir?" She turned to him but kept her eyes on the paper.
"Haha! Good choice my Alice!" He reached over and ruffled my hair.
"H-hey quit it! Stupid dog!"
"Heheh... I'll get a fibcats as well." He said looking up at her. Once she locked eyes with him she quickly looked back down at her paper and began scribbling notes, like a terrified cornered animal.
"A-a-and w-what would Ya'll like for y-your f-food?"
"Alice?" He looked to me.
I viewed the menu. The were slogmitts, popsuckles, softcates, limelems, etc. I didn't know what to choose from.
"Here Alice." He grabbed my menu and took the pen that the waitress was holding making her flinch, and scribbled down things. Then he handed back the pen and gave me my menu. I read what he had circled and wrote.
Limperghaster: tastes like chicken and rocks.
Cramfins:tastes like fish and crabs.
Riptease: tastes like fruits and sour candy.
Kipplers: tastes like waffles or eggs.
Magscrine: tastes like spiders and muffins.
Pippops: tastes like tacos.
The rest of it didn't look any good at all so I didn't bother reading it. But, it was nice of him to do this for me. I thought.
It didn't take long at all to pick. I just had to choose between Kipplers and Riptease. That took a few minutes. But I finally decided to go with Riptease. I didn't want to risk not eating it since I don't like eggs that much. "I'll got with Riptease."
"A-and you sir?" The waitress asked shyly.
"Magsrcine for me!" He replied cheerfully smiling at the waitress which scared her even more.
"O-okay, I-I'll go put in your orders." She rushed away.
"Sorry, what were you going to say?" I asked him.
"Oh, right. When you arrived in wonderland did you see the white rabbit?"
"White rabbit? I don't- Oh! Yes I remember him! But he was what made me fall into wonderland. I... Don't remember seeing him when I arrived though. He probably ran away or something. Why?"
"Hmm... Well, if you do see him be weary. He takes pride in his job, but that doesn't mean he never has the time to flirt with the ladies."
"Wait job? And if he's a rabbit why would he flirt?" Is it required for ever Wonderland character to hit on girls or something?
"Well you see Simon isn't to keen on being called a rabbit. But we still call him that behind his back. As for his job, he works for the queen. So I advise you to keep you're distance. He can get a little clingy, even to the point of skipping work for you."
"For me? But he doesn't even know me!"
"When you see the white rabbit ask all of your questions to him. He'll gladly answer you without a second thought." Hatter answered trying to pat Rina on the head again.
"Sssssss!" She hissed, pushing his hand away.
"Hey you want to sit with me Rina I won't bother you." I offered extending my hand to grab her.
"Hey! She's mine! No one takes my precious Rina!" Hatter whined slapping my hand away. The diners looked at us and became quite, but after a few seconds they started talking again.
I pulled my hand away. "Sorry Rina, I tried." I shrugged.
Then out of the corner of my eye I saw the waitress rush over. "U-um here's everything you've ordered." The waitresses hurried and placed our foods and drinks down."E-enjoy!" She stuttered and ran away.
I looked down at my Riptease. It was a light pink looking bread with purple gooey mustardy looking stuff on the top of it.
At least it looks appetizing. Hatters Magscrine looked like a muffin stabbed 26 times with blood-like white ooze oozing from it. I guess this is what I'll be eating for now. I sighed.
"Welp. Bon-appitete!" Hatter chimed.
After eating we left and searched for Timothy still in the vast forest of Wildflare but there were more buildings and people. I guess we got closer to the town. But it's gonna be so much work walking back and forth from the treehouse to town! I complained to myself petting my rabbits head.
"So when will we get to Catterpilllars nest?"
"When will we get there? Pfft!" He laughed.
"W-what?!"
"Alice! My silly Alice! didn't you see the sign?"
"Sign? What sign?"
"There was a huge sign outside the treehouse at the top saying Caterpillers Nest. you didn't see that?" He reminded me pointing to the sky.
I think back. I don't remember seeing any huge sign at the top. And I didn't even look up."Nope." I said.
"Well, since you just figured out we're at Caterpillers Nest, let's go meet some caterpillars shall we?"
"But aren't we looking for Timothy?" I questioned.
"Yes, but to find Timothy we need to look for the Great Catti. Timothy works for him."
"What's the Great Catti?"
"He's the smartest caterpillar here! He can tell the future, read books within a second, can write books in five seconds,
suck the life out of you, can play with your mind, and is very annoying!" Hatter enthusiastically explained.
"So does he run Catterpillars Nest or something? He sounds smart!"
"Yes he does, but he never gets a break. So Timothy always has to run around and find him. So we will help Tim."
"Whys he got to find him?"
"Mmmm... Well... Catti seems to love to play hide in seek!... Oh! and beware of Catti as well!" Hatter said, taking out a teapop and sucking on it.
"That sounds fun." I said and spun in a circle. Suddenly something caught my eye. A big huge mushroom sat in a little meadow. Kinda like a little cottage. "Hey Dog what's that?" I asked him. I didn't bother calling him Hatter this time, but I'm not sure why.
"Dog? Oh! That's a library! Cmon Alice! Timothy might be here!" He grabbed my hand and dragged me towards the library.
There were books and weird catterpillar people everywhere. We ran to the back of the mushroom library where there were less people. The books were on shelves, on walls, on... Ceilings? This place was huge! "Hatter where's-"
Suddenly Hatter stopped and looked up, "Catti? What are you doing here?" I followed his gaze. In a dark corner at the top of a library shelf was a person with butterfly wings. He was smoking a cigarette pipe... Thing. "Aye mate! How ya been! I'm just chillin." The butterfly-man said in a lazy voice, smoking on his pipe thing. I still didn't know what that was.
"Doing fine! How've you been with your drugs? Still getting high?" Hatter replied as if talking to an an old friend friend. But it was a bit different. Not really an old friend but something else.
"Yupidoo! It's the only light in my life afterall Teacup!"
"Heheh... Ya well let's see what happens when you get lung cancer." Hatter chuckled. But it seemed forced.
"Haha! At this rate, lung cancer couldn't even scratch me! By the way, who's the pretty snack you brought me?" Catti laid down and leaned on his elbow. He was pretty cute. He had navy bluish hair with blue antennas sticking out, matching his blue butterfly wings that had black spots on them He was wearing a baby blue baggy short sleeved jacket with a grey hoodie. Under that was a dark grey baggy t-shirt. His black pants were too big for his size, like they'd almost fall off. But he had a belt for that. But the belt was so loose I could see a bit of his boxers. They were grey, like the rest of his clothes, his eyes, his shoes. He looked like he had no purpose, like he never existed. For all I know maybe he wanted people to think that when they saw him. Other than that though, he was cute, handsome.
Hatter put his arm around me suddenly, pulling me close, "Oh sorry butterwings, she's mine."He winked at me. I could smell his lavender scent. It calmed me. Wait, calmed me? I pushed him away.
"Hey I'm not-"
"She's not yours unless she says so y'know bud." Catti answered for me. "Are Ya'll an item sweetheart? Does he own you?"
"Mmm... N-"
"Alice! Say yes!" Hatter gritted through this teeth.
"Why? He won't do anything will he?"
"Yes he will! He's just like the twins!" Hatter whispered he seemed anxious but I could've been wrong.
"What? he'll eat me?" I joked.
"Mabye. Just say yes!" He whispered.
Wait. I thought. Do I really have to listen to him? I can do what I want can't I? Does he think he owns me? When can I choose for myself? I'm not his!
"No."
"Ngh!" Hatter grunted, shocked. When I looked at him. He looked hurt. But I didn't care, this was my life. And he wouldn't control it.
"Ehhh? Whadya say lady?" Catti asked amused.
I looked up at Catti, "I said No. And my name is Alice."
"Nnn!" He grunted again. I glanced back at him, he gritted his teeth. He looked like he wanted to murder the both of us. But then he put on his guarded expression.
"Alice... I'll keep that in mind..." He stared down at me. His grey eyes piercing my purplish ivy ones. I stared back. After a few moments hatter interrupted us, tugging on my arm.
"Hey Alice... We should go. We need to look for Timothy remember?" He reminded me smiling. There he goes. Dragging me everywhere saying we need to do this, we need to do that! He's even dragging me to hearts castle! Why do I even listen to him!
"You need to look for Timothy. I don't." I told him.
"Alice!-"
"Just leave the poor girl alone Hatter. She can stay here if she wants to, I'll watch her so you don't get worried. Is that okay Alice?" He looked at me and smiled.
"Alice... Please." Hatter said, forcing a smile.
"I want to read the books. I'm not going anywhere."
"......Catti..." He whispered.
"Well whadya say Hatter, or should I say Alice?" Catti suggested to me.
"Yes, It's fine with me." I smiled at him.
I guess Hatter understood I wouldn't go with him and turned to leave."I'll be back at 5:00" he mumbled. It was already 4:00 so it would take exactly and hour to get back.
Then he walked away muttering himself. I could only catch a few words, "Ki...you....tti...." And then he was gone.
"Well Alice... Lets look for some books shall we?" Catti asked. "I know just the place..."
