Chapter 9
"What is the meaning of this?" I asked out loud, Eclipse hanging onto me, listening to every word silently.
"You mean why you happen to be hanging out like that?" Mirror asked trying to be funny. I rolled my eyes.
"Duh." I said noticing the shackles on my arms for the first time,"Why am I like that?"
"Oh don't worry, this is an illusion of what will happen to you in the future. Someone's coming by to your room and since you said you didn't care I came up with that little fun image." Mirror said cheerfully.
"So it didn't happen?" I asked watching my parents' that never once looked at me, suddenly mourning over my dead body.
"It will if you don't hurry home soon." Mirror said. I frowned.
"Fine." I said. The pendant emitted a radiating light and a portal opened. On the other side of the portal was the image of my room.
"See ya later, Alice." Eclipse said and I stepped through. It felt weird being in my room again, but I returned to normal. The clothes I had on before were back to normal and the cuts I had were gone, but I still had the lingering feeling of the other world. I looked back and saw myself in the mirror. Everything seemed to be perfectly fine. I looked at my wrists and I narrowed my eyes. I rubbed my hands around my wrists and turned around as soon as I heard a knock. The door opened and I saw my mom, just like what I saw in my pendant. She stared at me for a moment and I stared back at her. Finally I broke the silence.
"What is it?" I asked. She paused for a bit.
"I just wanted to check on you... that's all." she said quietly. Right now, huh? After so many years, you check on me now? She looked at me hesitantly,"What happened to your wrists, are you okay?" She stared at my red and bruised wrists, right where the shackles were. I hid them behind my back.
"I'm fine." I said,"More importantly, what do you want?" She looked at me with wide eyes.
"What do you mean by that?" she asked clueless. I frowned at her angrily.
"All these years, you haven't even spoken a single word to me, nonetheless even given me a glance." I said,"Now you come back and ask me how I've been? I wouldn't be surprised if you wanted something from me."
"Alice..." she said guiltily,"Your father and I were thinking during these past years."
"Thinking? About what? What took you so long to make you think so much?" I asked.
"Ever since those accidents happened, your father and I were thinking what might it be that made you react that way. We left you in solitude, thinking it was for the best. You never had one of those changes again, am I right?" she asked. I rolled my eyes. Well maybe it's because I'm always stuck in here in most of my time.
"Why are you back?" I asked.
"I've decided to have a divorce with your father." Mom said grimly,"You have to decide whether to stay with me or go with your dad." I felt something crack inside me. I hated my parents, but I didn't hate them enough to want them to have a divorce. I was shocked by her words. All I did was stand there, I didn't know how to react.
"It's your choice." Mom said,"I'll let you have some time to think." She walked out of my room, closing the door from behind her. I sank down to the floor. Thoughts all jumbling inside my head. My heart was hurting with unbearable pain. I shut my eyes tightly, trying not to let unnecessary tears slip out.
"Don't let it get to you, Alice." a voice said behind me. I turned around and faced the mirror. My reflection was staring at me with a grim face. It wasn't Mirror who was talking that's for sure. My reflection smiled reassuringly,"I don't think we have met officially, so hi." She waved awkwardly at me.
"Violent Alice?" I asked.
"I'm tired of being called Alice, give me a new name." she smiled at me,"It's confusing to be called the same name." I thought for a while.
"Malice?" I asked,"It sort of fits your description." My reflection thought for a bit and gave me a wicked grin.
"Sounds good. I'm officially Malice now." she said giving me a thumbs up. I smiled back at her,"Good to have you smiling again." The reflection wavered and it returned to being me, sitting on the floor. I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. I jumped onto my bed and rested. Mom or dad? Like I could decide after what they put me through. I sighed and covered my eyes with one arm. I eventually fell asleep.
I woke up to the sound of annoying beeping from the alarm clock. I sat up in bed groggily and slammed my fist down on the button. My alarm clock silenced. I fell back on my bed sleepily and rubbed my eyes.
"Here comes another day of torture." I whispered to myself. I got myself ready for school, wearing an old jacket over a fitted t-shirt and shorts. I grabbed some Pop Tarts and headed out, ignoring my parents. I pulled my hood up and plugged in my ear phones listening to the playlist of my favorite songs. My backpack slung against my shoulder. I walked to school everyday since I don't live too far from it, but it's still a pain. Reasons?
1. I have to see people that I absolutely DESPISE.
2. Studying just gives me a head ache, but I have average grades, so I'm alright.
3. The teachers are just lazy, they don't care about the students at all. What is up with that?
Those are my top three reasons. Of course, there's some other reasons, but it would take forever to list everything.
I reached the front doors of the school and I walked to my locker. I put in the combination, and threw my backpack inside. I grabbed my things that I needed for my first class l and walked down the hallway to the room. I went to my seat and put my things down.
"Alice." a whisper called out to me. The hairs on my neck tingled and stood up. I whipped my head around and looked throughout the classroom. People gave me weird looks, but I ignored them like I always do. They're not important anyways, I'm tired of their constant harassment. The bell rang and I sat down, looking around nervously. Nothing suspicious. I breathed out a sigh of relief. The whole divorce thing is just getting to me.
"Alice." the whisper said again. I shot up out of my seat like a rocket. Everyone looked at me, but I didn't have time to feel embarrassed. I fast walked out of the classroom and the teacher walked past me.
"W-Where are you going?" he asked me. He was aware about my violent background so of course he was a little scared. Ha ha, that's pretty funny if you think about it. Back to being serious.
"Bathroom." I said and walked by. He didn't stop me. I reached the girl's bathroom and I went to the sink. No one was in there luckily because everyone was in class. I slammed my hands down on the sink and looked down at the running water. Cold sweat rolled off my back. I looked up into the mirror. I stared back at me.
Red eyes. Blood splattered. Sharp grin.
I rubbed my eyes and looked back into the mirror. I was normal, but I looked like I saw a ghost or something. See what I did there. I breathed out another sigh of relief and looked down on the sink. I splashed water on my face to refresh myself. My heart thumped in pain. It thundered in my rib cages. I blinked, the water turned to blood. I blinked again and it turned back to normal. Another blink, back to blood. I stepped away from the sink.
My reality kept flashing before my eyes. I blinked again, blood was splattered against the wall, everything was dark and black. Blink, back to normal. Blink, I saw myself in the mirror. The reflection smiling and laughing at me, she held a scythe and twirled around.
"You can't run from it... You can't run from madness." she said.
"Leave me alone!" I yelled. The mirror shattered and I closed my eyes.
"Oh, sorry." another voice said. I opened my eyes to see a girl from class. She looked at me as if I was insane, and I have to admit, I do feel insane right now,"The teacher asked me to check on you. If you want me to leave you alone, I'll leave you alone." She said annoyed. I shook my head and rubbed my temples.
"Sorry, I wasn't talking to you." I mumbled. She frowned.
"Whatever." she said and walked out. I closed my eyes out of frustration.
"What is going on?" I asked myself.
