Chapter 18

Hello my lovely and fabulous readers! I've come with yet another very late update, but let's be positive and say at least I updated :P

I added a picture of what Alice would look like (not exactly, but similar), sorry if she's totally different from your imagination, but I tried ;)

Enjoy the chapter, guys~ I tried writing a bit longer than I usually do, but it's not that long. We're getting somewhere though!

"Huh?" I asked bewildered. Hunter paused, processing what he just said and he scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. He laughed again.

"That didn't come out right." he said. I raised an eyebrow and tilted my head.

"Oh?" I questioned him.

"What I meant to say was... I think it's best not to hang around with guys that stick their middle finger up to people." he said looking around avoiding my piercing blue eyes,"You know?" I nodded slowly with a smirk.

"Yeah," I said,"Right, right." I laughed at his awkwardness and he laughed with me. I felt as if Hunter was hiding something else... something dark... but I didn't make a move to pry out any additional information.

We continued walking out of the forest, but the sound of gunshots stopped me. They sounded near and the image of Matt popped in my head. I looked over to Hunter, but he looked as if he didn't hear anything.

"Hunter..." I began softly, but he stopped me.

"It's none of our business." he said,"If that guy chose to go head on into danger, it's not our job to go see if he's okay." I frowned and bit the inside of my mouth, deciding whether I should say something or if I should not.

"But-" I started again, but he shook his head and began walking again. I could feel myself getting aggravated with him,"What if I want to go help him? What's wrong with that?"

"Alice, I think it's best if we just go." Eclipse said next to me. I looked over to her in surprise.

"Why?" I asked angrily. I could feel something I never knew I had boil inside me and before I knew it, I couldn't stop myself from talking. The words spilled out of my mouth like lava from a volcano,"Why can't I go? I thought of all people, you would at least agree with me, Hunter. Isn't it normal to go try and help a person in danger? Is hanging out with another guy bothering you that much?"

Hunter looked at me with a calm expression that made me feel embarrassed, yet annoyed, for saying anything at all. His emerald, shining eyes looked at me with a soft expression and I balled my hand into fists. Why do I get so flustered when I'm near him?

Hunter sighed and kicked at the rocks on the ground leaving a small silence after my outburst.

"I don't want you to get hurt, is that so hard to see?" he said,"You're really important to me..." I silenced and the boiling within me ceased. I couldn't believe that I snapped suddenly, I would always control my emotions and calm myself. What's happening to me?

"I'm sorry... I don't feel like myself right now." I said and shook my head. He smiled.

"It's alright." he said,"How about going to see if that guy's okay? That caring part about you is nice too, even though it could get us killed." I laughed and rolled my eyes and Hunter and I ran towards the sound of gun shots.

We stopped at a safe distance to see Erik and Matt, but they didn't notice us as we approached. Matt had two guns in his hands. One was an obsidian black while the other was a shimmering silver.

Erik, however, had a unique sword-like weapon. Or that's what it looked like anyways. The blade was like a chainsaw and what astounded me even more was that the blade moved like a chainsaw..... a chainsword.

Matt seemed to be moving a lot slower than what I saw at the match and then I noticed the huge bleeding, gash on his thigh. I gasped quietly and put my hands to my mouth. Even when having a painful injury, Matt seemed to still be capable of fighting.

"Why can't you just die already?" Erik said with a tired look. Erik and Matt charged at each other and more sparks were seen as Erik's chainsword collided with Matt's guns. I was surprised that the guns were still even intact instead of cut in half.

"Weapons in this world can't really be destroyed unless some weird phenomena happens." Eclipse whispered to me noticing my surprise.

Matt jumped back and summoned a health potion. He quickly uncapped it and began to drink it, but Erik used this chance to strike at him. Matt's wound was beginning to close up and I watched as he began getting faster. From the side, I could see that his eyes were a sparkling shade of blue hidden behind his thick glasses.

"It looks like he can take care of himself." Hunter said and I nodded slowly. I turned with Hunter and began making our way back, but I looked back one last time to make sure. My eyes widened as I saw the chainsword make contact with Matt's shoulder and a deep cut was made. Matt screamed in pain and Erik took his blade out. It was covered in thick, bright, red blood and he laughed in triumph.

"That's what you get kid." he said as he raised his chainsword up again. Matt held his injured shoulder defenselessly and I could feel myself freeze up.

"Relax and let it take over you." I could hear Hunter's voice echo and resonate beside me. I took a deep breath and felt myself diving into a cool, darkness.

I appeared in front of that oldie and blocked his chainsword with the blade of my scythe. There was a loud screeching noise made between our blades and Erik jumped back in surprise. Something felt different, it wasn't like the usual turnings with Alice.... this felt refreshing. A new kind of energy coursed through my body and I smiled wickedly at the confused, oldie in front of me.

"Didn't you want to fight?" I asked spinning my scythe in my hand playfully. Hunter came out from our hiding spot, carrying Eclipse in his hands. She looked a bit pissed, most likely because she practically fell off my shoulder as I ran here, but she still kept silent like usual.

"Well... this is unexpected." Erik said lowering his chainsword,"Pleasure meeting you guys again."

"Oh no, the pleasure is all mine." I said with a smile, I leaned against my scythe and tilted my head, enjoying the setting.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" a voice behind me said and I turned my head slightly to see the injured boy I saved, however, he wasn't injured anymore. He looked at me and I could tell my red eyes caught him off by surprise.

"A simple, thank you, would have been nice." I said turning back to face Erik. Matt grabbed his guns that were on the ground and stood next to me. He seemed to be a little taller than me, but he wasn't that tall.

"I don't need your help." Matt said. I shrugged.

"Who says I'm helping you?" I said,"Maybe I'm just itching for a fight." He laughed, but it was short, cold laugh.

"Do what you want." he said,"But try not to get in my way." I rolled my eyes. Somebody's a little grumpy today.

"I could say the same to you." I said lifting my scythe.

"Two against one?" Erik said sarcastically,"That's not fair." I looked over to Hunter and he leaned against a tree. He nodded towards me as if he knew I could take care of it and he's never been more right. I felt like I could take 10 Eriks right now, but let's not jinx that.

"It's your fault that it turned out this way." Matt said,"Give me back my title." My eyes widened a bit. That oldie stole Mr. Grumpy Pants's title?

"How is that even possible?" I asked.

"Mirror made a deal with me." Erik answered,"She told me if I could kill this boy, she would make my life in here better. Even though, my assassination attempt failed, she still granted me with power. Not only did I get the title, I've been getting special treatment in the game."

"You tricked me." Matt said pointing his gun at Erik,"You pretended to be friends with me, but you stabbed me in the back... literally." Erik shrugged.

"Not my problem." he said. I frowned. Why would Mirror make a deal with this guy, so that he could kill Matt?

Matt fired a bullet at Erik and Erik shielded himself with his chainsword. Matt tightened his grip on his guns in annoyance and charged forward. I watched as Matt ran and shot his bullets continuously, but Erik dodged them. Erik barely had any injuries on him, besides some minor scratches here and there. As I looked closely, I saw his scratches slowly closing.

Mirror let him have self-healing powers? Now that's totally unfair.

I felt like pitching in as soon as I saw Matt's attacks barely doing anything to Erik. I ran and appeared behind Erik which surprised him and me. I was fast before, but this time I was a lot quicker and moving around was a lot more swift and free.

I took Erik's surprise as and opening and swung my scythe. I made a gouge on his side, but he stopped me from getting any farther with his chainsword.

"Matt!" I called out to him and Matt fired his bullets. I could see Erik's wound slowly closing, but it wasn't closing as fast as the rate of what a health potion could do. I smiled to myself as Matt fired his bullets and was able to puncture Erik. I saw Erik wince in pain and Matt continued firing. It was either face Matt's bullets or face my blade.

Erik grimaced as he held out his hand. There was a flash and yet another chainsword appeared. Erik easily deflected Matt's bullets with his other sword and I frowned in frustration.

I jumped back from Erik and observed what was happening. Erik seemed to slow a bit after the multiple hits he received. An idea popped in my head and I grinned.

I charged forwards once again and Erik pushed against my scythe. I held out my hand and my gun appeared, it rested against the side of his head and he froze. Nothing better than the oldest trick in the book.

"Any sudden movements and your brain gets a bullet." I said. I watch him tense up and he slowly lowered his weapons.

"Alright, let's just talk through this..." he said,"I don't want to die, you don't want to die, let's just walk away like nothing happened."

A gun shot rang out and echoed within the forest.

I watched as Erik fell backwards, bleeding from the hole in his forehead. I turned to look at Matt who had his gun pointed straight where Erik was.

"He deserved it." Matt said as his guns disappeared. I felt Alice's side get uncomfortable and I stared at him for a brief moment before sending my weapons away. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as I felt myself fading into the shadows.

I opened my eyes and looked around in shock. I looked over to Hunter and he smiled and waved.

I remembered everything.

It was like watching a movie from your point of view and instead of getting brainwashed from remembering anything, I can still see everything that happened so vividly... including the part where Matt shot Erik.

I looked over to Matt and he had his screen open. He smiled in triumph as he noticed 'The Mad Hatter' under his name. I found it oddly cute how he felt so proud of himself, he was practically glowing. It was different from the intimidating aura he gave off.

He saw me looking at him and instead of returning to his menacing self, he smiled at me. It was a warm, sweet smile and I looked at him in surprise. It was probably showing on my face too because he laughed a lovable laugh and walked to me.

"Um, thanks." he said awkwardly,"You helped me out a lot." I smiled back and I watched as his cheeks turned a faded pink color, it was barely noticeable, but it was still there.

"I'm glad I was able to help." I said. I glanced over to Hunter and I could tell he was ready to leave. I turned back to Matt and waved goodbye as I ran off to Hunter,"It was nice meeting you." I saw a mixture of disappointment and sadness swept across his face, but he waved back as I left.

Hunter and I continued walking and talking, but Matt's face of dejection kept popping up in my head.

We exited the forest together into a clearing where a large dirt path stretched in front of us. I looked up ahead as the path reached into the horizon. The sun began to set, disappearing and casting an orange glow over the land. The sky was a mixture of oranges, pinks, and reds. Just the sight of it took my breath away and we continued walking down the path to where ever we were headed.

I didn't know how to end it, so the ending's kind of crappy :D

See you in the next chapter~
