Chapter 13

He stared back at me, a bored expression wiped across his face. He wore a black denim jacket over a plain white shirt with jeans. A pendant that looked similar to mine sat against his chest; the jewel was a shade of blue rather than a red like mine. His hair parted over his forehead to cover a bit of his radiating green eyes. I stared into them and he stared into mine. There was a thump in my chest, but I quickly silenced it.

"This is Hunter Seraphim." the teacher introduced,"He was here yesterday, so you guys might have seen him around." I silently wondered why he was here and he was the first to break from my curious stare. He looked to the left towards the ground in a sort of embarrassed attitude. I grinned slightly,"Hmm, let's see there's an empty seat behind Alice or that seat next to Alexis."

Alexis was the most popular girl in the school. She would do anything to get what she wanted, even if it meant it would hurt people. Even if meant sacrificing her own friends. All she cared about was herself and judging by how she was looking at Hunter, she had taken an obvious interest in him.

Hunter looked at Alexis and she gave him a flirtatious smile and battered her thick mascara covered eyelashes. The guys would usually swoon over her after this small act, but I just felt sick just looking at it. Hunter turned to me, a little hesitant, but then proceeded to walk in my direction. I felt a little flutter of joy inside me when he chose to sit next to me instead of Alexis. He sat behind me and I glanced at him. He gave me a small cute smile and I smiled back. I felt a hot murderous stare come from Alexis.

I turned slowly to look towards her direction, but she just smiled back at me though her deadly glare looked straight into me, penetrating though my soul, wanting to tear me to pieces. She gave me a small wave and a nod of acknowledgment. I knew that Hunter would most likely sit by me, but I'm still happy about it.

I could tell by the look on her face that she was wondering why Hunter sat by me instead of her. I turned to face Hunter and he gave me another smile, but this one was a little playful grin. There was a red glow replacing his green eyes.

"Let's get along well, Princess." he whispered and gave me a wink. I wondered how he was able to turn into Havoc without blood, but I rolled my eyes at his wink and turned facing to the front.

"Riiight." I answered back.

For the rest of the day, I was being intimidated by Alexis and her followers.

It was just some minor bullying, not something to be really worried about (not that anyone cares), but I've been through a lot. I went to the cafeteria and sat at my usual seat. Suddenly a figure sat in front of me, I looked up and saw Violet. I had completely forgot that I met her yesterday. She smiled with her blushing pink cheeks and bouncy, curly blonde hair.

"Hi, Alice!" she greeted with her optimistic attitude. I chewed slowly and stared at her.

"Hi..." I said, not sure if I could completely trust her or not.

"How was your day?" Violet asked biting into her food. I laughed, thinking about all the events that happened.

"Ha! It was great." I said in a sarcastic tone,"If you count having Alexis and her stuck up clique stalking you all day that is." She frowned, feeling bad for me.

"Was it bad? Are you hurt or anything?" she asked showing deep concern for a person she just officially met yesterday. I shook my head.

"Nah, I'm fine." I said shaking it off,"What about you?"

"Nothing exciting, just the plain old usual stuff." she said with a bright smile. I looked up and saw Hunter walk towards us, he sat down beside me and Violet stared at him. Her already pale complexion getting paler and her shimmery grey eyes changing color. She sat frozen on the spot.

"Violet? You okay?" I asked. She stared at Hunter silently.

"Uh, yeah... I'm fine." she said looking down, avoiding eye contact with Hunter. She got up quickly,"I have to go now." She fast walked and threw her trash away. She disappeared behind the doors and didn't come back.

"She looked... familiar." Hunter said putting his head on the table to rest. I narrowed my eyes and continued to eat.

"Aren't you going to eat?" I asked. He shook his head.

"I don't eat much." he said watching me eat. I could feel hot, burning gazes on me, but I ignored it. Out in the corner of my eyes I could see Alexis watching my every move. Killing intent was rising off of her despite her smiley face. I do have to give her credit though, the things she does to her victims are pretty bad and it seems I have to be more careful since I'm currently her new plaything. She acts like a goody goody in front of the teachers, but once everyone is gone, she unleashes her true demon inside her. I must admit.... it's pretty scary.

Then the most unexpected thing happened. Alexis walked over and sat in front of me. She battered her eyelashes again and smiled, her eyes had sudden warmness in them.

"Hey, Alice." she said with illuminating brightness emitting off her. I winced at the imaginary sun rays coming off of her face,"It's been a while." She turned to Hunter and gave another vomit inducing flirtatious look,"Hi, it's nice to meet you." She said to him. I narrowed my eyes at her, obviously disgusted and turned to see Hunter's reaction. He didn't seemed phased at all. I secretly gave him a thumbs up in my mind and I turned back to Alexis.

"What do you want Alexis?" I asked with a sigh. She tilted her head and smiled again.

"Oh nothing really, just trying to rekindle our beautiful friendship." she said with a melodic laugh. Yeah, sure.

"You sure you're just not after Hunter?" I bluntly asked out loud even though I intended it to stay in my head.

"Me?" she asked with a shocked and hurt expression,"Of course not! Why would I want to do that?"

"Maybe because you have a little thing for him?" I asked again. I nudged Hunter's side to make sure he was still alive. He gave me a playful nudge back.

"I'm just being kind to the new transfer." she said with a huff,"Got a problem with that?" I finished my food and pushed it aside.

"No, not at all." I said looking to the side, then I dropped my voice,"It's just that your existence is the problem." I look like the bad guy here, which is sad that I'm admitting it myself, but it's true.

"Did you say something?" she asked frowning. A look of confusion wiped across her face. I shook my head.

"No, not at all." I said with a smile. Alexis turned to Hunter.

"Anyways, I'm Alexis, it's nice to meet you Hunter." she said politely; ignoring me entirely.

"It's nice to meet you too." Hunter said plainly, he gave me a glance as if asking what to say. I shrugged.

"I hope we get along well." she hinted to him and gave another guiltless smile. I looked to the clock and noted the time. I got up and threw my trash away and began walking to the exit. Hunter caught my arm and I turned around lifting an eyebrow at him.

"Where are you going?" he asked quickly letting go.

"I'm going to the bathroom." I said and smiled jokingly,"You want to come with me?" He grinned slightly and shook his head.

"I'm fine." he said. He looked over to Alexis,"Just hurry back, I guess." I laughed softly.

"Okay." I said,"Good luck." I exited the cafeteria leaving poor Hunter alone with Alexis. It's like leaving a pack of meat out in front of a hungry lion. I made my way toward the restroom and I took in the quietness as I entered. I was by myself once again and I felt a little pang of loneliness. Hanging around with people is starting to have its toll on me.

I walked to the sink and stared at my reflection. I observed myself, staring at my blue eyes. My long, dark brown, hair was a little messy, but it's not like I was going to die from it. I touched the mirror with the tips of my fingers and the mirror unexpectedly wavered. I quickly shot backwards, the mirror still wavered and soon it showed the scenery of The Land of the Dead. I frowned.

"Alice?" a whisper from behind me said. I turned around and soon saw Violet come walking in. I looked back at the mirror, but only found me staring back. I shook my head, but the sentence echoed in my mind as clear as it could be. The worlds are merging.

I turned back to Violet and she smiled back at me.

"Sorry I kind of bolted out of there." she apologized.

"It's not a big deal." I answered,"You mind if I asked why?" She fidgeted.

"It's something I can't tell you yet... but you'll find out eventually." she said softly. She paused with a smile and her voice dropped to a whisper, she said something under her breath, that I didn't quite get.

"Did you say something?" I asked. She shook her head.

"It's nothing." she said. She turned around and began to walk out of the bathroom, but paused and faced me again.

"Oh yeah. Have you seen a ring? I lost mine a couple days ago." she said.
