Chapter 1

This is my first story, so don't write any hurtful comments if it's not to your liking. I totally understand if it's not your kind of thing. Please give me advice for things that I need to fix, that's highly appreciated. Thank you for the support!

I also understand that there are a lot of grammar mistakes and errors in this, so I will do my best to fix those.

This story is somewhat fast paced, so if you do not enjoy fast paced books then go ahead and read something else, I don't mind :)

The picture shows an example of what the pendant would look like.

Alice was never the social type. She would always try to ignore everything and never get involved with unnecessary business. Why get into something so troublesome? She never spoke or had many friends for long periods of time. She would always shut herself in her room, not caring about the world or anything at all. Alice was never like that at the beginning, but after the incidents revolving around her, she started getting distant from the world. Her parents don't care for her as much anymore after the many accidents she's been in and lets her do what she wishes. It's what's best for her, they thought, but would they believe that their daughter was sneaking off to some unknown world? No one would ever notice if she happens to disappear, right?

I got home and passed my parents' in the living room. They didn't say anything to me as I walked by and I felt a pang of sadness hit me right in the heart. I entered my room like usual and puffed out a breath of air. I closed the door behind me and threw my backpack on my bed. I shook my head, shaking away the unwanted memories and feelings.

I walked to my mirror and stared at myself, the beautiful designs of vines and roses were all etched on it's silver border. I touched the mirror and it wavered my reflection, like how a pebble would drop in a pond sending many ripples. Words popped up and I read them silently. I could feel the adrenaline slowly begin to rise and the excitement pounded within me.

Do you wish to continue the game?

Two options popped onto the mirror: yes or no. I hovered my hand over the 'yes' and tapped it. The mirror flashed a bright light and the reflection changed into a scenery of a wooded area. I looked behind me towards the door thinking back to my parents then looked back at the mirror. I remembered the emptiness of my existence in this world and finally made my decision with no regrets. I smiled widely as I walked through.

Welcome back to the Land of the Dead, Alice.

Alright, alright, let me explain more about my situation. So what if I spend most of my time going into an alternate world? It's not like my life at home is any fun. I've been playing this "game" ever since I found out I could do it, which was about two weeks ago. And this is how it all started:

I was exploring a secret room that was connected to my closet.

I'm not sure why I decided to start cleaning it, after all I am quite lazy, but there was some kind of... unexplainable thing drawing me closer to it. I discovered that on the side wall of the closet that there was a spot that looked rather strange. Sort of a different shade of paint. So I decided to play detective and knocked on it which made a hollow sound. Of course, me being the very curious person that I am, stood up.... and kicked at it with all my might.

The small section of the wall soon gave in and crumbled, making a huge pile of plaster on the ground. I looked through the hole and saw some stairs leading downward. I was hesitant at first, since all horror movies always have some kind of scene where a person walks into a scary room and something extreme happens, but curiosity soon got the best of me and I crawled through the hole.

I stood up looking around and I found a switch and turned it on. A dim light flickered and I proceeded slowly down the creaky, wooden stairs. The smell of dust and dampness made me wrinkle my nose, but I proceeded anyway on my quest of who knows what.

I finally got to the bottom and looked around in awe. All kinds of hidden antiques and treasures were placed around the room, all covered in white sheets or left uncovered. As I walked around the objects, two things caught my eyes immediately.

One was a beautiful red pendant that seemed to glow with a fiery radiance. It was hanging on a mirror. The mirror was tall and grand as it leaned against the wall. It had beautiful silver rims with complicated designs and engravings of beautiful roses and ivy vines. I was mesmerized by them. There was a sort of pulling feeling coming from them made me want to walk closer.

Alice.

Something called out to me in a whispery and far away voice. I shook it off and walked closer to the items. I picked up the pendant and put it on, admiring it in the mirror, then something seemed to ignite inside of me like a just lit fire. I stared at my reflection and it stared back at me. I heard a whisper in my ear.

"Do you wanna play a game?" it asked. I stayed silent, thinking it was just my imagination,"Well, do you wanna play a game or not?" My eyes narrowed at my reflection. It grinned at me and I gasped in surprised. It laughed at me.

"Oh, the looks on their faces gets me all the time." she said.

"Who are you?" I asked. She raised an eyebrow at me.

"Who am I? I am you." she answered vaguely.

"But there can only be one of me.... right?" I asked nervously.

"I am the Mirror of Truth. Or just Mirror is fine. I also have many other names, but I'll stick with that one; I reflect back what the real you is." she said with a sort of care-free attitude emitting from her.

"So what am I...? To you that is." I asked. She giggled and stared at me.

"You, my dear Alice, have a very... fun personality." she said pausing,"It's quite an interesting fate to meet you."

"Fun?" I said in confusion.

"Yes, fun! I love fun things!" she exclaimed changing the subject,"Now, back to my question! Do you like to play games?"

"What kind of games?" I asked. I'm not sure if I can trust this Mirror of Truth. Who knows what could happen? I could get myself killed if I'm not careful.

"A very creative game, of course! I have created a world where people can do anything they please." she began.

"But wouldn't that be dangerous? People could get hurt." I asked concerned. She smiled at me maliciously.

"Maybe that's the point..." she whispered creepily,"That's my idea of fun in a way." I stayed silent staring at the mirror uneasily.

"Like I was saying, I created a world where people can do whatever they please, however, if you happen to, let's say... die in this world, your whole entire existence will vanish from your original world and you will forever be a lost soul wandering in my world." My eyes widened to the thought of it.

"How many.... have died already?" I asked. She looked me in the eyes and smiled viciously.

"Oh! Many have already, I have a whole collection! But they do have this habit of killing the other players.... the more the merrier, right?" she cackled.

"You're crazy." I said. I frowned thinking about all of the lost souls. She laughed again.

"Oh, but so are you my dear." she said. I glared at the mirror. Her features started to turn dark, her eyes bloody red with black rings around them. She smiled showing crooked fangs,"Now, Alice, do you wish to play my game?"
