Power rising
-Alexis, dear! We have to leave!
-I'm coming, mom! Do you think dad is on the porch?
-I hope not! This situation is starting to annoy me!
- Should we offer him a room? A little one? It's not perfect to stay outside all the time, regardless of the weather!
-We'll see! Now let's go, otherwise we will be late. And you know that Max doesn't like being late for school!
-Yes, I've noticed. Lucky for me, Ryan, my secret admirer, is the only one who supports me! I said as I walked out the door.
-Do you have a secret admirer? Who is? asked father, frowning.
-It's supposed that I shouldn't know who it is, but I think it's Ryan. He always leaves packages on the porch.
-Aah! Okay!
-By the way, Tim! You never saw Ryan come near the house? You are always around!
-Honestly, I didn't see him! said father confused, scratching the back of his neck. He may come when I go to get a change of clothes or take a shower!
- Possible, it is then when he comes and leaves the packages. It's curious though that I can't smell him.
-If it's Ryan, he's too young to have shifted.
-Yes...
-Shall we go? Or we keep on staying and talking about my secret admirer while Maxwell waits for us! I said laughing.
-Let's not let His Highness wait for us too long! my father said bursting into laughter.
On the way to the pack house, I looked at my parents and smiled.
"How much he has changed! Leya, look! My former home!"
"Better say a hovel!"
"That's right!"
"Anyway, your old father has changed a lot since the day I met him!"
"Hey, he's not that old!" I said laughing.
-Finally! You have arrived! Hurry up! I will be late again because of you! And the coach will make me do fifty extra laps because of you!
- He won't put me do it! I said with a sarcastic smile.
"Uhhhh! I like you more and more, girl! You're getting more and more sassy!"
"I had a good teacher!"
"Who?"
"You Leya!"
"Me??? I feel hurt! How can you say such a thing? I, who am goodness incarnate and the decency of the earth, to teach you to be sassy!?"
"Well...."
-Stop talking to your imaginary girlfriend and move faster! I heard a growl.
-Maxwell, don't be rude! That's not how you talk to a lady! I answered.
"Hey, human! I love that, her vampire is protecting her and teaching her to answer you so cheekily! I do!"
"Demon, shut up!" I replied smiling.
-How did you tell me, Whitish? Maxwell? I asked suddenly stopping, feigning anger.
Being too preoccupied with my conversation with Leya, I didn't notice that Max suddenly stopped and I went headfirst into his chest. I had the feeling that I hit a rock.
-What are you eating? Steroids? I asked massaging my forehead. I will definitely have a bruise!
-If you don't stop calling me Maxwell, you will have more than one bruise.
- Is it a threat, Maxwell? Or a promise? Leya asked.
Although two years have passed since I received Leya from Goddess, and I started daily training with both of my parents, training that helped me avoid dozens of fights and physical abuse, including from older colleagues, Leya still felt the need to come forward when she felt that I was being threatened...especially when those threats came from Max.
I looked amused, at the child who was looking at me with her big blue eyes and her snow-white hair. I liked the fact that she didn't tremble with fear in front of me and didn't back down either. On the contrary...she confronts me whenever she has the opportunity.
"She's our mate, idiot! Our equal!" said Demon beaming with pride.
-You know something, Whitish? You're lucky that I'm in a hurry to get to training because otherwise, I would have taught you to respect your superiors.
-You? My superior? In your dreams, Maxwell!
I approached her and leaned close to her ear and whispered:
- I will be the Alpha of this pack, so yours too! Do not forget these!
Her smell engulfed me instantly and for a second I lost my reason and sniffed her.
- Yew! You creep! What do you keep on sniffing me?
- Maybe, I want to make sure I don't go to school with someone who doesn't stink!
-What? You are a jerk! I don't stink!
-Let's go! We don't have time to argue! We can leave these for later! I said and started walking towards the school.
We walked the rest of the way in silence.
-Hey, Max! When you get tired of accompanying kindergarten to school, let us know! So that we can accompany you! said Andrew, Max's best friend and future Beta.
- You don't need to remind me! Only two more years and then I will get rid of this punishment!
-Let's get inside! The coach is waiting for us on the field! Ryan said smiling at me.
- Have a good day Alexis! he said smiling at me.
-Thank you, Ryan! I answered smiling at him.
"Human, this wolf is wooing my mate! I'm going to rip his head off!"
"Demon, we can't do anything! No one can know what she is to us!"
"You're wrong, human! We're going to lose her like this!"
"I will never give up on her. No matter what she will be, or say. We will tell her everything after she gets her wolf!"
"You are wrong!" he said and retreated to the back of his mind.
After I finished the classes, during which I was offended several times, I woke up with the locker room full of bags with red liquid, it was time to go back to the pack house. Although I still had only a few hours until I would turn twelve, and almost two years had passed since the day of the trial, my mother still insisted that I go home with them. Dad joined the warriors and, for this reason, he had times when he had to go on patrol. But, even so, in those times, he asked a friend to protect us.
"As if we were ....royalty!" Leya said.
And my invariable answer: "Leya, we really are ....royalties!" and we both snorted with laughter.
When I left the school, I saw Max waiting for me, with one of his many admirers clinging to him. I decided to ignore him, so I passed him hoping that he would let me be.
-Hey kiddo! Are you still upset about this morning? he asked ruffling my hair.
- Stop doing that! I said feeling that I was no longer calm. Leave me alone and take care of your bimbo.
-You freak! Who are you talking to, bimbo? asked the being that was clinging to him with a shrill voice.
"If she keeps on talking, she's going to break my eardrums!"
-You! I answered.
- I think you were not taught to respect those who are higher in rank, than you! she said with a snarl detaching herself from Max and approaching me menacingly.
"Does this bimbo want to see what I can do?" Leya asked, taking control.
I was too upset. I felt that something was coming, something that was going to change my whole life, but I didn't know what.
-You freak!
- Are you sure you want to start something you can't finish? Not that I would mind a good fight, but I don't think you are a fit to be my opponent! Leya told her with a bored face.
-Baby, do you hear what she's saying? Do something! she started whining.
-Ohhh, Goddess! If I hated anything, ever, it was these bimbos, who think they are stronger than they are, just because they know how to ride the bones of idiots!
I looked at her in awe, muffling a burst of laughter. Alexis' vampire was something worth seeing, especially when she was sassy.
- Babe!
-You can go!
- But, baby!
- Get lost! I yelled at her.
-But....
-Now!
- See you tomorrow, babe? she asked pouting.
-You know what? I think we will see each other again ... never!
- But, baby... she started to cry.
I looked at her with disgust; did she really think that I didn't know that she went through the beds of all my friends and, that she bragged that she would be our Luna? Did Lauren think I would ever make her my Luna?
- Let's go, kid! I said leaving behind a crying Lauren.-
- You are a true.....gentleman! I said unable to hide my sarcasm.
-I know! It's in my nature! he replied cockily.
The next day, when I wanted to get out of bed, I felt that my lungs were burning. The air around me was very hot and my body was covered with chills and large beads of sweat were flowing.
- Mom! I shouted scared.
- Yes, Alexis! What is it?
-I do not feel well, mom! What is happening to me? I can not breathe! Do something! Please? I yelped in pain.
Waves after waves of fire and ice seemed to come out of me. I felt that the skin was being torn from my body and the pain was becoming unbearable.
-Tim! Tim, come here! screamed my mother.
-What is it? dad asked as he walked inside.
-How is it outside?
-Why?
-Tell me how it is! yelled my mother tears streaming down her cheeks.
-It's bad weather: the wind is blowing, the air is hot, and on top of that is pouring....as if all the elements of nature want to show which is stronger.
- It happens... she said slowly, dropping to her knees crying. It happens! Her powers are rising!
"The air burns, the wind roars, the water rises to the height of the sky, the earth shakes...the elements of nature have been unleashed...no one knows what is happening, what will happen. Everything screams: "The ONE is coming!".
As the pain came and went, I saw through my eyelashes how a rainbow appeared from the clouds. And, miraculously, at the same time as the rainbow appeared, all the pain I felt disappeared. I saw my mother crying and I reached out for her, caressing her cheek.
-Mom, it doesn't hurt anymore! As if the rainbow took away my pain like you used to tell me when I was little.
I saw my mother looking at me through tears and saying:
"The One has come!"
