Chapter 17: Gone with the Wind, Literally

The sun started to come down, everyone was tired. We were in the forest, we've been riding on the pegasi for hours. We landed in some clearing.

Jason suggested, "Let's make camp for the night."

"Yeah, that would be best." Fern agreed. "It's getting dark soon."

Piper groaned, "I'm starving."

Leo gave a mischievious grin, "Chef Leo, at your service.

He started to set up a portable grill. He whistled a tune as he cooked.

Piper nudge me as we sat by the fire. "So what are you thinking?"

Wanting to save my words, I wrote on my portable whiteboard. I then handed it to her.

It took her a while to read it then she read aloud, "I'm still a mute, what do you think?"

She looked at me. "You know I didn't mean that. I mean the idiot cooking us tacos."

I looked at Leo and crossed my arms. I am not having this conversation.

"If you're going to be this diffucult, I'm taking away your whiteboard."

I tried to grab it from her, but she held onto it protectivly. I gritted my teeth, whatever. I'm not going to die without it. I stick my tongue at her then walked over to Leo.

"Hello, hello, hello," Leo said with a grin. "What you want on your tacos?"

I wanted to say tomatoes, but I didn't really want to waste my words. Leo noticed and apologize.

"Sorry, I forgot."

I waved him off that it's okay. He then smirked like he had an idea.

"How good are you at charades?"

I punchws him on the shoulder.

"Geez, it's a joke." He muttered. "Just point what you want."

I pointed at the tomatoes, onions and the tofu.

"Nice choice ma'm. May I interest you with my famous brown rice? It's quite popular."

I smirked and gave a nod. After a satisfying dinner, everyone drifted off to sleep. All except me, but who can? I'm going to do a sing-off with the muses, not something anyone would just up and volunteer. I got up from my sleeping bag. I'm to worried to be asleep. I might as well keep watch. I climbed up a tall tree, thanks to the lava climbing wall back at camp.

I heaved out a sigh, the forest is so beautiful at night. A soft breeze came my way, blowing my hair playfully. Then another gust of wind, even more powerful came at me. I had to held onto the branch I was sitting on. That was close, I almost fell off.

"Sorry, got a little carried away, there," someone said to me.

I turned to my left and almost fell of the branch again. Some handsome guy in his early 20's were sitting next to me 20 feet of the ground. He has red curly hair with a tan cowboy hat on top. A laurel wreath surround the hat. He wore a khaki knee length shorts showing a six-pack and brown combat boots. He had a red cloak that hung on his back like Superman. He had green eyes and his face is splashed with freckles, and gave me a million dollar smile.

I was speechless, er, not really literally but well, you know.

"I couldn't help myself," he chuckled. "But you know what they say, you wind some you lose some."

"Uh..."

"This really blows, I didn't even introduce myself," He blushed. "I'm Zephyrus, but call me Zephyr."

"Zephyr?" I choked.

"Yes, the god of spring and the west wind," he gave me a sly smile. "The gentlest of the winds I may add."

"W-what gives me the pleasure Zephyr?"

"I happened to be in the current area, and saw you," he said dreamily.

I blushed, the wind gods were known to carry off girls. I have to talk myself out of this. "It's an honor Zephyr, but don't you have Iris?"

"Shouldn't women ask the same thing to Zeus when he already has Hera?"

"Touche."

"Iris isn't the jealous type," he said. "Besides, shouldn't I be the jealous one since she has a whole cabin of kids?"

"Oh yeah, I met Butch."

"I really set my eyes on you and it would be such a drag to see you with that Hephaestus boy."

I was startled on how he knew that, but he is the wind. "I-I'm sorry but I have other things to worry about."

"Ah yes, the muses," he said. "Sadly, it's not going to be a breeze."

"Okay seriously, what's with the corny wind puns?"

"Well I'm the wind, it's only natural I do that. And I actually enjoy using them."

"Well, I guess."

"I gust if I can't pursuade you, I'll have to take you by force."

He stood on the branch, amazingly keeping his balance. Gusts of wind surrounded me, soon it started to pick me up.

"Zephyr, I'm 15, for the love of the gods!"

"What's that my love?" He asked. "I'll be more than happy to tell your parents the great news!"

"OH MY GODS!!!!"

He picked me up like a bride and carried me off. I'm starting to feel what it's like to be carried off by god against your will, like in the myths I read about. But no way I'm going to be taken away without a fight. I tried to struggle my way out of Zephyr's arms, but then I thought of where I am. 30 feet from the ground now.

I yelled, "Piper! Fern! Jason! Leo! Phoe-!"

My voice has been all used up. A great time for that, just great.

I struggled some more, trying to take off my shoe instead. Finally I got it and held it with my hand. The camp was right below us, I took aim and... Threw it on Jason's head. Bulls-eye! He bolted awake, and looked up to where the shoe came from. I waved my hands like a maniac before Zephyr noticed what I just did.

"What a sly minx, my love," he laughed. "No matter."

He yelled to everyone below us, who was starting to wake up, "You're all invited to our wedding, now let's go off...in the wind."

He laughed as he carried me out of the forest, heading west.

-

I gave up, it's no use struggling anymore. No way I'm jumping 50 feet from the air from Zephyr. It's been like, what, an hour by now? My voice is back, just in time. Not.

"So do you always do this?"

"You said something, my sweet?"

I gave an exasperated sigh. "Don't you ever want to take things slow? You know like getting to know someone first, like through a couple of dates. Probably have a nice dinner and then ask them to marry you?"

He gave me a puzzled look, "I really just go with the flow actually. We've been doing this for eons, we gods don't really draft out a plan when meeting someone."

"Well you should," I reasoned, "We mortals have feelings, too."

Zephyr's shoulder's slumped. "I'm just full of hot air, I guess. We gods usually get the pretty ones while their still available."

The gods never change, I thought.

"Pease forgive my rudeness, dear Alexandria," he apologize. "This is the modern times, and you're still young, though it's not true back then."

"It's okay."

"Let me make it up to you," he smiled. "Let me treat you and your friends for some food, the quest must have done a big number on you."

"Really?" I aked hopefully.

"Why of course, with the trouble I stirred up, I should fix it," he said. "Though most folks like Burger King, I think you all will be in a mood for Windy's, don't you-"

A huge fireball hit Zephyr before he could finished. Zephyr whirled around to see where it came from. Leo and Fern was there on the Hephaestus horse with Piper and Fern behind them. When he saw us he yelped.

"Guys," he said nervously, "I think I made the dude angry."

"What's wrong with you?" Piper scolded, "You could've hit Alexandria!"

"How dare you, demigods," he growled. "And when I was just about to treat you to my favorite restraunt Windy's."

"It's called Wendy's man," Leo said. "Learn English. Let's say it together, W-E-N-D-"

"Stop it, Leo!" I warned him. "You already made him-"

Zephyr threw a gust of wind at them. almost having them lose their balance.

"-angry," I sighed.

"You're Favonius, am I right?" Jason asked trying to calm him down.

"That is my Roman counter part," he said. "I'm Zephyrus, and whom may you be?"

"Jason Grace, son of Jupiter," Jason said hoping it would scare him that his dad is the big guy upstairs.

"Well son of Jupiter, you have made an enemy." He stated. "For I am Zephyrus, the west wind and god of Spring."

Leo coughed, "Spring? Like rainbows, flowers and sunshine?"

"Leo!" Fern yelled.

"How dare you Hephaestus boy." Zephyr snarled.

He made mini tornadoes around us and threw them at my friends. All of them were caught in them, and they just kept on spinning, and spinning, and spinning. Zephyr stopped the tornadoes, everyone didn't look so good.

"I think I'm going to hurl," Fern moaned.

"Don't you even thing about it," Leo said while holding Fern for dear life.

"I don't think I like merry-go-rounds anymore," Piper said.

Jason groaned, "Aw, I was going to take you there on our next date."

"Really?"

Zephyr let me go, I yelped but saw that I was still in the air. I was sitting on some winds like a chair. "Just stay there my love, I'll take care of thse fiends. Then we'll go on a couple of dates, have a nice dinner then propose to you."

"I didn't mean me," I groaned.

He took off his cloak, revealing huge, tan wings. He wrapped his cloak around him like sling bag. Revealing a couple of flowers. A sudden image came to me skipping around throwing petals. Stop it Alexandria, don't think nonsense. Zephyr grabbed some flowers and twirled a little, throwing the flowers around him. Well I was sort of right.

"What's he doing? The flower dance?" Leo asked Fern.

"How am I suppose to know?"

"Hello? Nature lover?"

The flowers didn't drop on the ground, though. Instead they stayed in midair.

Zephyr pointed at my friends, "Aim." I looked at the flowers, they seem to glint in the moon light. Was it me or did they look... razor sharp?

"Fire!"

Leo dumbly looked around, "Where?"

The flowers were thrown to them. Luckily Jason and Piper deflected some of them, having only a few scratches. Leo made a fireball to destroy the flowers.

"Woah! Flower ninja stars! Do the come in pink?"

Zephyr looked pleased at the question. "Actually I have them in all colors of the rainbow, white, pink and glow-in-the-dark."

Jason asked, "Why?"

Zephyr shrugged, "Everything's cool if it's glow in the dark."

Piper saw her chance, "Zephyrus, shouldn't we talk this out?"

"I think I'm doing her favor, before she chooses the wrong one." He said eyeing Leo.

Jason reasoned, "Can't you let us go, Zephyrus?"

"Don't use that, 'I'm son of Zeus so listen to what I say' on me," Zephyr glared.

"What?"

"Normally we wind gods will kill the mere sight of you, demigods. And a son of Zeus thinks he can just ride our winds, and we can't do anything since he's, well, a son of Zeus!"

"Oh, so just because my dad's the big guy upstairs. I can use the 'my dad's Zeus' card to get everything I want?" Jason asked.

"Well, yeah!"

Jason aimed his gladius in the air, a bolt of electricity struck it. He then aimed it at Zephyr, and electricy zapped to him. Zephyr vanished into the wind, before the electricy hit him. The thing was, I was right behind him. I felt electricity ran through my body, once again. Even though I have Zeus' blood, it still hurts getting a direct hit from Jason. I groaned and collapsed backwards. Luckilly, Zephyr's winds caught me.

"Sorry, Alexandria!" Jaosn yelled.

I gave out another groaned in reply. Zephyr appeared beside me, and glared at Jason.

"Who do you think you are? Trying to injure not only me but my poor Alexandria."

"Actually, I was just trying to aim you," Jason admitted.

"Well I gust it's my turn," He said. He grabbed some flower petals, and sofly blew them towards everyone. The petals also had some pollen with them, and I don't think it's going to end well.

Jason and Piper covered their noses before they could breathe in the pollen. But Fern and Leo didn't do it in time. I guess they though it were those flower ninja stars. Soon they started sneeze like it's pollen season.

"What is achoo, this achoo?" Fern moaned.

Leo sniffled. "Where's the achoo flowere ninja stars, achoo."

"Gesundheit," Zephyr said, then snapped his fingers.

Leo and Fern suddenly slumped foward the Hephaestus horse. When they started to snore, I realized they were fast asleep. Luckily the Hephaestus horse was a machine and the pollen didn't effect it, so it was able to keep Leo and Fern in the air.

"That was my sleeping pollen, very effective." Zephyr said.

Jason was officially pissed off. He jumped off his horse and flew to Zephyr. He swung his sword at Zephyr, but he vanished. Then he reappeared behind Jason. Jason lunge the sword again and Zephyr dodged it easily.

He burst out laughing. "Oh how hard you try to fight me, son of Jupiter."

"It's not funny," he yelled. "Now stop vanishing and fight me."

"Think Jason Grace," Zephyr said. "I am Zephyrus, the west wind. The one who will lead you to your destination, you must think what enemies you make."

Jason sighed, "I don't want to fight you." He sheathed his sword to show it. "All I want is my friend back."

"I've taken a liking to Alexandria, but you are right. That was quite wrong of me to ask her to be my wife."

Piper coughed, "Force."

"Well, here you go." He swayed his hand towards Jason. The winds led me to him and Jason carried me.

"Thank you Zephyrus, and I do still wish you can blow us to Greece."

"I still will, I like being put to use. It's a wind god's duty."

Piper charmspeaked Leo and Fern awake, "Wake up you two, or else I'll make you sleep like that for all eternity."

Leo snorted awake, "I'm alive!"

"Mommy?" Fern asked.

He looked around and blushed. "I mean, Alex?"

"I should go now," Zephyr said. "Like the wind, I come and go as I please."

Leo looked puzzled, "We're letting Spring-cleaning dude go?"

Fern nudged him, "You're making it worse."

"And don't worry, you're already near your destination." Then Zephyr vanished with a scent of flower perfume. Weird.

We at the distance, a huge city of flashing lights. Las Vegas.
