Abigale's POV

When the bell rings to leave 6th period I take a deep breath, excited to see the end of this horrid day. I grab my binder, go out to the hall, and to my locker, navigating through all the people who are either staring, gasping, whispering, or keeping out of my way. When I get to my locker the hall goes quiet and I choose to ignore it, getting my last binder for the day. Once I'm ready I slam the door shut and see a face on the other side.

"Well hello there," He says with a smirk.

Now I see why everyone went quiet.

"Hey, Alex," I mutter and start walking away from him.

"What now you don't want to talk to me?" He says and I roll my eyes.

"Oh, anything but that. Why wouldn't I want to talk to the one person who thinks they're better than everyone else. I wonder why," I say sarcastically in monotone.

"I know right? It's insane how you aren't clinging to me like all the other girls," he says and I scoff and look around, the halls empty.

"What other girls? Because frankly enough it seems that I'm the only one who's talked to you both yesterday and today," I say and his face eyebrows furrow.

"You're right, they must be waiting for a perfect time to attack while I'm alone," He says and I roll my eyes, again.

"At least your panties aren't in a twist now," I mutter under my breath but he seems to catch it.

"That's only because I'm happy with the outcomes of my plans for you," he says and I scoff.

"Have fun with that. Don't you have a class to go to?" I ask and he shrugs.

"I don't know, maybe we're in the same one," he smiles and I shake my head.

"I would've seen you yesterday, you idiot," I say and he sighs.

"Well, that's a bummer, bye for now. Maybe you'll see me sooner than you think," he shrugs and I walk in the opposite direction. Just as I am finally alone I hear footsteps speedily coming towards me and I turn to see Vanessa nearly out of breath trying to catch up to me.

"Abigale, I told you that you didn't have to blame it all on yourself, it was my dare," Vanessa huffs, breathing a little heavy.

"Vanessa I didn't want anything to happen to you too. Plus, if your brother found out you did this to his friend I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be so happy. I only got lucky because- and I quote- am: 'The Newbie,'" I say and she sighs.

"Yeah I know, but I feel bad about it. He's bothering you because of me and there is nothing I can do about it," She groans and I smile.

"Thanks for being so caring, but I'm fine Vanessa. I'll manage," I say and she smiles back.

"Well, I don't want you suffering Alex's wrath on your own," she says and I roll my eyes playfully.

"Way to make me feel better about this, plus his 'wrath' has yet to begin, so everything will be fine and dandy," I say and she laughs as we walk into the classroom sitting in the same seats as yesterday: my seat right in front of Vanessa's.

"We have another student moving into the class- not including Ms.Jennings from yesterday," our history teacher states, standing from his desk then glancing at me before continuing, "Although this student isn't new and is well known by most of you, he should be arriving shortly," he says, sitting back down.

"Why would they change someone's class before the end of the semester, and who would they move?" I ask turning to Vanessa who shrugs.

"Maybe they were having problems with the teacher that needed to be changed immediately? I don't know, I haven't seen this happen before," she says and I nod, turning around. A few minutes later the door opens casually getting everyone's attention and the teacher cracks a clearly fake smile towards the door.

"Ah, Alexander you're here," the teacher says from his desk. "Choose anywhere to sit, I don't really care where," he says dropping the smile and looking back to his computer.

"Okay then," He says grinning and everyone looks at him including me. The only difference is that everyone is looking at him with either fear or admiration and I'm just looking at him with... disgust?

I turn slightly to Vanessa, still looking at him, "You don't think he-"

"He definitely did," she answers my unspoken question. I turn back around and see him look at me and I quickly look down, away from his eyes.

"Oh, Abbie I didn't know you were in here, what a coincidence," He grins and I roll my eyes.

"My name is Abigale," I retort and he chuckles.

"Well you're gonna be Abbie to me." He says and I scoff. He pisses me off so easily, and I haven't even known him for 2 whole days. His comment is followed with a few moments of silence as I now find the carvings in my desk really interesting as he begins to walk around the desks. "Vanessa do you mind if I sit there?" He says, making my breath hitch in my throat.

"But I'm-" She tries interjecting.

"Vanessa just let him sit there, please," the teacher interrupts and she sighs, moving her stuff.

"Sorry, Abigale," she whispers and I give her a quick smile then start doodling on a scratch piece of notebook paper, suddenly not able to stay focused on our given task.

"Hey, Abbie," Alex says from behind me and I stay quiet, "Oh I see how it is," He says and I can practically hear him grinning as he attempts to tease me.

"If this is going to be your way of 'getting back' at me it is not going to work out very well for you," I say still keeping my focus on the paper in front of me.

"I guess I have to test that," He says and I turn around to ask him what he meant but his voice cuts me off, "Mr.Fredrick," He says. Well, now I know the teacher's name.

"What Alex," he mutters, focused on the computer.

"In my other class we had partners to study with to prepare for tests and such and I don't think I could fail without it so could I do the same for this class?" He says and I turn back to face him and glare, he shoots me a quick smile and wink which catches me by surprise, making it falter for a second.

"Okay, uh, Abigale you can do it. I don't think anyone else in this class would want to," he replies in a bored tone and I take a quick breath.

"Sir I-"

"Okay that sounds great," Alex interrupts me and I give an aggravated sigh, turning back to my scratch paper. "Am I passing this test to get back at you?" he whispers from behind me and I roll my eyes, trying to ignore him.

・・・

When the bell rings to leave I practically jump out of my seat, getting away from him as soon as possible. When I walk out the door Vanessa is quietly waiting for me, a face full of regret just waiting to explain itself when I look at her. "I am so sorry Abigale, I'm not even going to lie to you, Alex is going to be a pain. It's my fault and now you have to work with him-" she says and I smile at her sympathy.

"It's fine Vanessa it won't be that bad, don't worry," I say and she looks at me like I've grown two heads, "What?"

"You just said it wouldn't be that bad, it's probably going to suck, he isn't going to leave you alone... ever," she says and I shrug.

"I've had a brother," I say opening my locker and with that, she just laughs.

"I guess that's true," she pauses, sighing, "Well, I have to go find Zach. He has some appointment I have to take him to, see you tomorrow?" She says and I nod before she turns away and heads down the hall. I grab my bag and close the locker, looking to the floor beside me to see the poor attempt at cleaning the carpet, seeing the hundreds of glitter flakes on the floor. I look back to the hallway to see it relatively empty and head to the buses. When I get outside my phone buzzes, making me jump slightly.

Unknown: How was your second day, new girl?

Me: Who is this?

Unknown: Who knew you did art? Aren't half that bad are you ;)

Me: Lots of people frankly enough. Now are you going to tell me who you are or am I going to just block your number and continue my day?

Unknown: Well I guess I should tell you since I'm helping you move stuff in today.

Me: Just tell me who you are already, I'm losing patience and need to find my bus, I can't keep focusing on my phone.

Unknown: Yeah, it's a little too late for that I'm afraid.

I quickly look up to see the buses take off and I watch them leave one by one and after they leave I see a grinning face staring at me, and to my luck, it's Alex.

Me: You've got to be kidding me.

Alex: Gotta love distractions right? Now you can either walk or walk over here and just catch a ride with me.

Me: Looks like I'm walking, I don't want you near my house.

Alex: Little too late, I live a few houses down from you actually and I'm helping you move stuff into your house too... remember?

Me: Oh so you moved to bother me too?

Alex: Not necessarily, I just call it an extra bonus that ended up working out for me.

Me: Lucky you. How in the world did you get my number?

Alex: connections.

Me: And by connections you mean?

Alex: I have a friend... with a sister... with your number.

Me: Wow, you're really going out of your way for this one.

Alex: I need a little fun every once in a while you could say (;

Me: Poor thing.

Alex: So are you walking?

Me: Definitely walking.

Alex: Do you even know how to get there from here?

Me: Yes...

Asshat: Really? How

Me: Google Maps

Asshat: Oh so you'll see it's a 45-minute walk, have fun.

Me: I will thank you very much.

I put my phone in my pocket and glare at him from across the parking lot and start putting in my address to Google Maps to see he wasn't kidding. 45 minutes to walk to my house. I sigh before beginning to follow the map.

"You really don't want to be in the same place as me, do you?" A voice asks beside me, startling me. I look over to see Alex in his car, looking at me as he slowly drives my pace.

"Not one bit," I say continuing my walk.

"Your mom is still waiting for you to get home you know. She seemed really excited for you to introduce me to her," He grins and I roll my eyes.

"Doubt it," I say and he shrugs.

"Well I mean you can just call her, or-" He says looking over to my phone when it rings in my hand, check your messages," he says and I glance at my phone to see one from my mom.

Birth Giver: Please get home asap! I got someone to help us move in! He seems really nice, he's a neighbor of ours. I think you two could be good friends!

I put my phone in my backpack pocket and stop walking, glaring at him. "So, you are joining?" He asks, unlocking the door. I pause before giving in and opening the passenger seat, getting in and avoiding eye contact. "So-"

"Just drive," I say and he grins, pressing the gas.
