Chapter 10: Finding The Words To Say
If there's one thing Isabelle Lightwood didn't excel in, it was assignments. Lucky for her, she was usually always paired with Clary who was, not only her best friend, but the 'geekier' of the two. They both sat on Isabelle's bed working on their history assignment, but like it usually did, it turned into their frequent gossip sessions.
"So, how are you and Jace?" Isabelle asked Clary eagerly.
"We're a lot better actually." she replied, still typing on her laptop. "Ever since he and Simon have been getting along better, we don't fight as much. Speaking of Simon, how are you guys?".
Izzy was silent for a moment. "We've been better, I suppose" she said quietly. Clary looked up from her screen at Izzy.
"Izzy? What's wrong?" Clary asked.
"Nothing" Isabelle mumbled slightly. "Nothing, I'm fine!" she forced a smile. Clary just stared at her - she knew more than anyone when Izzy was upset. "Okay, fine" Izzy sighed. "Simon...he's just been, I don't know, distant lately".
"Izzy, I'm sure it's nothing! He's probably just stressed about school like he always is", Clary tried to reassure her.
"Ever since he started hanging out with that Raphael kid, he's been acting weird". Izzy said, looking away from Clary.
"Look, I'm positive you have nothing to worry about", Clary put her arm around Izzy. "You're beautiful, you're smart, and you're a total badass! Simon loves you, trust me".
"Thanks Clary", Izzy wiped a tear away from her eye and hugged Clary. Unexpectedly, Isabelle's bedroom door flew open to reveal a panicked Alec.
"Izzy I need hel- oh hi Clary" Alec stuttered. "Izzy, help...now" Alec said, forcing a smile in front of Clary. Izzy strutted to the door where Alec was.
"What's up buttercup?" She said to Alec.
"Mom and Dad are coming home tomorrow" He said. "How am I meant to tell them about Magnus?"
"O-M-G I had no idea you were planning to tell them!" Izzy said, shocked.
"Well I have to! I told Magnus I would...and I want to, well not want to but you know what I mean."
"Well I think the longer you wait, the harder it will be. You just gotta come out and say it" Izzy replied.
"Oh wow! I feel super reassured Izzy. Thanks!" Alec said, the sarcasm oozing from his voice.
"I know it's hard Alec, but you just gotta do it - there's no way around it"
"I know" Alec sighed. "I can do it".
-
Alec sat in biology class with Clary. She was talking to him, but Alec wasn't listening to a word she was saying. All he could think about was telling his parents about Magnus.
"Alec? Hello?" Clary nudged him, causing Alec to jump out of his trance.
"Huh? Yeah, sorry Clary, I've got a lot on my mind right now" he replied.
"Magnus?"
"Yeah, I need to tell my parents about him, and I just don't know how to say it"
"Well" started Clary, "if you're not ready to tell them, then you should tell Magnus that. He'll understand".
"I want to tell them though, I mean I don't want to hide Magnus from my own family" Alec sighed. "I've never felt this way about anyone before, and Magnus, well he's truly unique".
"Yeah, he's a good guy, you're lucky to have him".
"I know" Alec said, letting out a smile. Even the thought of Magnus was enough to cheer him up.
-
Back at the Lightwood household after school, Alec and Isabelle sat in the kitchen, preparing Alec for his coming out speech to his parents the next day.
"Izzy, I'm not role playing this with you" Alec huffed.
"Oh come on!" Izzy encouraged him, "just pretend I'm Mom and tell me about Magnus".
"Ugh fine then" Alec sighed, "Um, Mom I have something to tell you. I'm seeing someone, and they're um, well they're a boy".
"Maybe it would help if you didn't sound like you want to kill yourself, Alec" Izzy said.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He whined, "I can't help it, you don't know how hard it is".
"You're right" Izzy replied. "I don't know, but what I do know is that you're strong and you'll get through this because you have amazing people to help you through it. Me, Clary, Magnus. Hell, even Jace would be there for you. You can do this Alec, I know you can, we all know you can".
"Thank you, Iz" Alec said while hugging his sister. She always knew how to cheer him up. "Well, I'm going to crash so I can get up early and be prepared to tell Mom and Dad tomorrow when they get back. I'm just going to have to find the words to say" Alec said, knowing that he wouldn't sleep at all.
"Find what words to say?" A voice said from the doorway. Alec froze. He would know that stern, bossy voice anywhere. He turned round to see Robert and Maryse Lightwood standing behind him.
* Hey guys! It feels so good to finally be uploading a new part. I am so so sorry for how long I've been gone for, it has been a hell of a few months for me. Thank you all so much for your feedback and your nice comments, I appreciate and love you all so much!
