trigger warning: mentions of death.

CHANGBIN WAS TIRED. It was 8AM and he had been in the studio all night, working on his new song. As he walked home, he wanted nothing more than to fall asleep in the comfort of his soft bed. So when his phone rang, signalling a call from his grandmother, he couldn't help but groan.

"Hello? Changbin?" He heard his grandmother's voice, and couldn't help but miss her terribly. He had lived with her until he had shifted to a shared apartment with Jisung and Chan to be closer to the company, and he couldn't visit her much anymore.

"Hi grandma." He replied with a smile, listening to her rant about how he doesn't visit her enough and had forgotten about them.

"I'll visit soon, grandma. I promise. I've just been busy." He said with a sigh as he slowly trudged home.

"You sure will, or I'll smack you to another galaxy. How can you be so busy that you can't even visit your old grandparents once in a while? I swear I will come and have a talk with that CEO of yours who doesn't give you enough time to rest or come visit us." she ranted and Changbin just chuckled. He had missed his grandmother's nagging so much.

The two remained in silence for a few minutes until his grandmother spoke up again.

"Changbin, dear, can you come visit now? I have something important to tell you." she said with a slight waver in her voice, causing Changbin to stop walking and grow worried.

"What is it, grandma? Is everything okay? Did something happen?"

"I don't want to tell you this through the phone, honey. Please come as soon as possible. It's about your parents." She said the last line in a whisper, making the boy freeze.

"I'll be there in twenty minutes, grandma." he said shakily, as he turned around and started walking towards his grandparents' house.

As he rang the bell of the place he used to call home, Changbin couldn't help but think of the worst possible news he could receive. Was there something wrong with either of his grandparents? Were they hiding something from him? Did someone die?

The door opened to reveal Changbin's grandfather, who smiled on seeing the boy.

"Changbin! How have you been, son?" He exclaimed, hugging the young boy who reciprocated the action.

"I've been good. How about you, grandpa?" Changbin asked with a smile as the two walked into the house.

"I'm fine, other than the fact that you barely come to visit, you brat!" His grandfather said with mock anger, making both of them burst out in laughter.

"Come on. Your grandma is in the living room." he chuckled, patting Changbin on his back.

They walked in to find his grandma drinking coffee while watching TV. The moment she saw them, she stood up with a wide smile on her face.

"Changbin! You're here!" She exclaimed, engulfing the boy in a hug.

"I missed you, grandma." he muttered into her shoulder as the two hugged.

"And I missed you, honey. Come, sit down. Do you want something to eat? Or drink?" She asked with a pleasant smile and Changbin politely declined.

"What did you want to tell me?" Changbin asked after a few moments of silence. His grandparents exchanged a look in silence before turning towards him.

"Honey, it's about your parents." his grandmother started, and he clenched his fists.

Changbin's parents had left him with his grandparents as soon as he was born because they still wanted to 'travel the world and couldn't do that with him'. He had never known who they were and he didn't want to either. The only parents Changbin had ever had were his grandparents, who had raised him and made him who he was.

"What about them?" He asked through gritted teeth, making his grandfather sigh.

"They died, Changbin. They are dead. It was a car accident." his grandfather said bluntly, and Changbin just looked at him with a blank face. He couldn't be sad; he hadn't even known those two. Why would he be sad?

"Oh." he dumbly said, and his grandmother broke down in tears.

"My son and his wife are dead. I didn't even see him for the past 19 years. I should've been a better mother." she cried and Changbin clenched his fists even tighter. He got up and hugged her, rubbing her back.

"It's not your fault, grandma. They are the ones who wanted to travel the world. Don't blame yourself for something you couldn't have known would happen."

"Honey, please go visit them once. They were your parents after all. Their funeral was already taken care of by their friends. They wanted a burial instead of cremation." His grandfather said, rubbing his grandmother's back.

"Fine." Changbin said reluctantly, looking at the sad faces of his grandparents.

"I'll go visit them now."
