Chapter 20
Lily was sitting on the porch of her grandmother's house. It was the second night that she had been gone from Hogwarts. When she was getting ready to leave, her father had told her about how all of her cousins were taking shelter there to be safe.
Like she had been all day at her father's house, she was alone here. Just like she knew, she would feel like an alien. She was. Her family wasn't her family anymore. She had left them long ago.
But she had good reason. They didn't take her side. They called her a fool!
Her heart was still racing from when she woke up the first time this morning in the pure darkness and terror. Her father and Albus had assumed that she had a nightmare and that was the reason that she got scared, but they were way off.
Lily actually had a normal dream. It was her laying in the grass with Oliver. They were laughing. When Lily woke up, she looked around and realized the darkness around her.
Instantly her body went cold. She felt herself break into a sweat as she could suddenly feel the rough hands of that man touching her, covering her mouth. She smelled the alcoholic breath, she heard his laughter.
Lily screamed in terror and held herself in a ball. Tears were streaming from her eyes before she knew it. She found it safer to be in a ball. She could feel every part of herself. She was protected from everything in her safe ball. What had she told her father. She told him to keep a light on! What did she have to do to make him do it? Did she have to get on her knees and beg him to keep one on?!
As she was sitting out here, she could hear people inside, some of her cousins laughing. All of the family was here. Well, everyone except for Rose, Hugo, James, and her mother.
While she had her alone time, she pondered on the question to what Albus asked her. Why was she here?
It was a question that Lily had been asking herself ever since she blurted her answer when Professor Goyle asked her. Now, she was stuck here, with her family and just as she predicted, she felt outside of everything. She wasn't their family anymore. She left them, but what did they think that she would do. They denied her. They didn't believe anything.
Some of her cousins wouldn't even look at her! When her Aunt Ron did, he gave her a small look and then looked away, pretending like he didn't even notice her. Most of her aunts and uncles did that. Her Aunt Hermione offered her a smile, but that was it.
She wondered if they would even notice that she was gone. It had been almost an hour since she had slipped out of the gathering.
So why had she come? Lily had no idea.
She had always missed her father and mother. They were her parents after all, but she was so angry at them. They were her parents, so why didn't they ever take her side instead of blame her. She had always wanted to come home, but she was angry at her family, and her anger excelled when she realized that they were angry at her for leaving the family that night.
But she loved her parents. She missed her dad's hugs and her mother's kisses before she went to sleep.
But they didn't believe her.
Lily was jolted out of her thoughts when she saw the door open. She turned her head to see that it was her father. He sat down beside her and she pulled her legs to her chest and wrapped her arms around him. She rested her chin against her kneecaps. Mr. Potter sighed, shut the door, and then sat down beside his daughter on the steps.
After a couple of moment of silence, Lily looked at her father, her cheek now rested on her kneecaps.
"Why didn't you keep a light on?" Lily asked.
Mr. Potter turned and looked at his daughter.
"It's in my regular routine that I have done since I married your mother. It's a habit. I never meant to scare you." Mr. Potter told her, "and I am so sorry that I did."
Lily felt tears come to her eyes. Mr. Potter gently took wiped the tears away.
"You are so beautiful. Don't let tears spoil that gorgeous face." Mr. Potter told her.
Lily shook her head.
"I don't feel pretty. And even if I am...it was what got me in trouble that night." Lily whispered.
Mr. Potter looked at his daughter. He hated himself for hurting her. He hated himself for driving her away. She was his baby girl and he hurt her so much that she decided that leaving her family was the best option. Of course, he found it even worst when she didn't come back that week and that after a month, she never contacted them or answered his letters.
"I saw him this morning. In the dark. He's always hiding there. Waiting for me." Lily whispered, tears creeping out of her eyes.
Mr. Potter wrapped his arm around his daughter.
"Why didn't you believe me?" Lily begged for an answer for her madness, "why did you yell at me?!"
"Lily, I...it's just that..." Harry couldn't find the words.
"No! You abandoned me when I needed you the most!" Lily sobbed, "you were my dad! All I wanted that night was a hug. A hug because whenever you hug me it's as if I'm in a warm, comfortable safety net. I never got that and that was what I wanted the most!"
Mr. Potter looked at his daughter. She was holding her hand over her mouth to keep from screaming.
"You have every right to be angry at me, Lily. I hurt you. I understand. I never wanted you that upset. I never wanted you to leave. I love you, Lily." Mr. Potter said.
"Then why did you leave me!" Lily sobbed, "he touched me and you didn't comfort me! His intentions....you let me be alone. I felt so cold and empty and you didn't offer me warmth!"
Mr. Potter looked at his daughter.
"I'm sorry, but Lily, I was mad at you that night." Mr. Potter said.
"Obviously." Lily said and she stood up and walked to the garden.
"Lily?" Mr. Potter called.
"Dad, just please give me a half hour!" Lily called back to him.
Mr. Potter stared at Lily as he watched her sit by the tree beside the garden. She was sitting on the other side of the tree so Mr. Potter couldn't see her, but he guessed that she was crying. All he wanted to do was hold her in his arms like what he should've done that night.
*
Lily held her face in her hands as she sobbed. The memories came flooding back to her in pain and shame. She hated the images. She wished that they would never come back, but Lily knew that she wouldn't be that lucky.
That night was probably the worst night of her life. Her, Blaize, Oliver, and a whole bunch of other Slytherins thought that it would be fun to make problems and a muggle bar. Of course they would just freak them out. That was their only intention, but it became much more. Lily was thirteen so she never knew what muggle alcohol tasted like, but she had some for the first time that night.
There must've been a group of fifteen to twenty people in Slytherin going to the bar that night. They all got in by putting the Imperius curse on the bodyguards and whoever commented on how young Lily and her friends were.
At first, all Lily did was dance, but when a couple of older students offered her a 'beer', things got out of control.
FLASHBACK:
"Lily!" Oliver asked, "You're having another one?!"
"Yes! What's it to you?" Lily asked as she used the Imperius curse to make the bartender give her another bottle of beer.
"That's got to be your third. Lily, I think that's enough. You're parents are gonna know!" Oliver said with a sly smile as he drank another sip of his only beer.
"They can kiss my arse for all I care! I can't believe I've been missing this!" Lily yelled and the two of them laughed.
"We better go soon. I've made enough damage. I'll find Blaize and we'll get outta here." Oliver told her.
"Fine! You're such a spoil! I'll meet you outside." Lily told him taking another drink.
The two of them went on their way. As Lily looked over her shoulder as she was at the door, she saw Oliver disappear into the crowd. Lily shook her head and walked out of the bar. It was the exit, so it was on the other side of the building.
The night was cold and dark. The ground was dirty and you could hear the music. There was no one around.
Lily smiled and took one more drink of her beer before splashing it to the ground. She wondered where everyone was. Surely people would be leaving the club to stay out and take a smoke out back at least.
"Oliver, hurry up. It's cold!" Lily yelled at the door.
She knew that Oliver wouldn't hear her over the music of the club, but it somehow helped her make her smile.
As Lily began humming to herself, she could hear footsteps behind her. At least this road wasn't abandoned after all.
But she squealed when she felt a rough hand suddenly clamp over her mouth and grab her hands behind her. Lily knew that this wasn't right. Why would someone do this? Blurs were all that Lily could see, but she knew that something was incredibly wrong. Hadn't her parents warned her about what this could lead to?
"You are one fine little one. I saw you in the bar. You're a small looking nineteen year old, but at least your pretty." a man hissed in her ear.
Lily wavered from her drunkenness, but she tried to push the person away, but she soon found herself laying on the ground. The man laughed at her attempts, but she was far too weak. And even if she did get away, Lily knew that she would only fall down.
With a hand still over her mouth, Lily felt his other hand wander.
No, Lily thought, This isn't right! This is wrong! No! Stop it! Lily tried pushing the man away, but he only laughed at her efforts. She murmured and whimpered, but nothing seemed to free her. His poisonous touch was making her frail. Was there any place where he wouldn't touch.
"Lily? Are you out here?" she heard Oliver ask.
Lily saw the man's blur do an action that looked to be like looking over his shoulder. She saw another blur that looked familiarly like Oliver.
"Lily!" Oliver yelled, "get your filthy hands off of her! You bastard!"
Lily felt the hands leave her mouth and body as she saw the Oliver blur shove the pervert's blur. As Lily looked around, she saw another blur come out of the doorway. Blaize?
"Oliver?" Blaize asked.
"Get Ramon! Get Denise! Get everyone else! This bastard was touching Lily!" Oliver yelled.
Lily saw the two blurs on the ground as Blaize's blur left inside. She saw Oliver's blur punch the man. The man tried to fight back and he seemed to overpower Oliver after a little bit of fighting. After all, Oliver was young and the man probably weighed three times more than Oliver weighed.
Soon, Lily saw other blurs rush out of the club. There was so much yelling that Lily could only make out a couple of things before she saw Oliver get off of the ground and walk to her. Soon, Lily could hear the Sectumspra spell and Cruciatus curse coming from everyone.
But then she felt Oliver wrap his coat around her and hold Lily on his lap as he rocked her. Lily didn't realize that she was sobbing until Oliver was gently wiping her tears away and he was whispering to her, "I've got you. He won't hurt you anymore. You're safe. You're safe."
END OF FLASHBACK
Lily hid her face in her hands. That man touched her. It didn't matter that she was drunk and was in a place that she should not have been, he touched her!
She sat there for hours, quietly crying to herself, not bothering to even come for dinner and no matter who came up, she threw rocks at them and yelled at them to go away. Soon, she fell to sleep crying as she watched the sun set.
