Chapter Two

When they arrived in the Great Hall, all the first years were astonished. The ceiling was filled with stars and candles floated above their heads. Albus poked one, gaping at the beauty of the room. As soon as they sat down, there was chatter.

The headmaster, Paulus Puzle, silenced everyone. He introduced some staff. The Hogwarts song was sung. Then, the introduction of the first years begun. An old, beat-up hat was brought up. It was announced that it was the Sorting Hat.

It began to sing.

In Gryffindor,

The Lions roar.

The fearless stand,

Hand in hand.

But in Slytherin,

The Snake won't give in.

Mischievous and cunning,

They're cleverness is stunning.

While in Hufflepuff,

The Badgers huff.

Being loyal and fair,

They willingly dare.

Oh, Ravenclaw,

The eagle will put you in awe.

With their intelligent skill,

Their strategy will give you a thrill.

Where will ye first years belong?

"Aaron, Albert," was announced. The boy walked up on stage. He put the ratty old hat on. The Sorting Hat seemed to think for a moment or two before deciding.

"HUFFLEPUFF!" it shouted. Albert, shocked at the strange experience, nearly ran off the stage and to his new Hufflepuff friends.

Continuously, names were called and first years went up. "Malfoy, Scorpius." Albus looked on stage, intently. He'd heard his parents and the Weasleys talking about him. Even by just looking at him, Albus could tell he was probably bad news.

It took longer than usual for Malfoy to be categorized. Finally, "GRYFFINDOR!" the sorting hat bellowed. Albus was confused. Don't all the bad kids go into Slytherin?

While Albus was befuddled, his name was called. "Potter, Albus."

"Potter, Albus?" they repeated when he didn't go up on stage.

Albus walked up on stage, as nervous as can be.
