Chapter Two - Boat Ride
The whole ride to Hogwarts was enjoyable. Albus and Rise had discovered so much about Scorpius.
He lived in a manor in Wiltshire with his mother and father. He was super smart and had grown up reading and playing quidditch and Albus knew at once he was going to be a Ravenclaw, a Hogwarts house for the intelligent and creative minds.
"You've read all of Hogwarts: a history?" Albus asked, shocked someone would want to read the old book.
"Yeah." Scorpius said bashfully "there's not much to do at my house and we have a giant library so.."
"Candy from the trolley?" an old ladies voice came from the door.
"I'm getting more." Albus grinned "are you guys?"
"Of course." Rose said, reaching into her bag for her money.
"I could live off candy." Scorpius joked, pulling out money. The three took almost half the trolley When they finally finished picking out stuff.
"How are we going to eat this all?" Rose said, looking at the like of candy on the seats.
"We better start now." Albus said, causing both boys to grin and reach for candy.
After a few hours a three stomach aches later, they felt the train start to slow down. There was still a large pile of candy left but the three were quite full.
"You better put on our robes." Rose said, smiling snuggly for already wearing hers.
She left the compartment and both boys changed;groaning about the pain in their stomachs.
"We still have to attend a feast." Scorpius sighed, face full of regret.
"I might just puke"
The boys finished as the train came to a stop and everyone began to shuffle out. Scorpius and Albus put the remander of the candy in Scorpius book bag, which had a spell on it that made it way bigger on the inside.
After most people were off the train and less hassle to get out, Albus and Scorpius began to make their way to the exit. Thier stuff would be magically transported to Hogwarts and to their dorms once they were sorted.
As they stepped down into the pavement, Albus heard a very familiar voice. "Firs' years! Come over here!"
"Come on!" Albus tugged Scorpius to where a giant man with a large beard called for first years.
"Hi Al!" He smiled down at the boy.
"Hello Hagrid!" Albus smiled back. Hagrid was a family friend and Lily's godfather.
"Firs' years!" he yelled until all the New students had gathered.
"Follow me!" Hagrid ordered and they began to make their way down a trail to the Black Lake. The black lake was a bit spooky in the day time, but at night Albus was a bit terrified to go near the water.
At the bottom there was about 100 wooden boats and told them four to one.
Albus had hoped he, Scorpius and Rose would all sit together but found Rose in a boat with three other girls, all giggling away.
He found a boat with a girl with short curly hair who was examining her wand.
"Can we sit here?" Albus asked.
She nodded but didn't look away from the wand.
The boys climbed in, sitting awkwardly across from her; they both didn't know what to say.
"I'm Daphne by the way." She said after a minute. She finally looked at them, making Albus noticed her dark blue eyes. Even with a kind smile she held in her face, her eyes seemed to be saying something sinister.
"I'm Albus and This is Scorpius."
They sat in silence until the boat started moving, magic making it go with any force.
The girl was quite pretty, but something about her look familiar. Maybe she was related to him.
"I'm not." she said, casually.
"What?" both boys asked.
"I'm not related to you Albus." she didn't even put down her book.
"How did you-" suddenly they were covered in darkness.
Albus looked up and noticed they had been rowed under a bridge, worryingly, Albus couldn't see Hagrid or any other boats around them.
When they passed, Albus had looked back to see that they were very much ahead of everyone else. They had reached the shore almost three minutes before anyone else.
"The boat was impatient" Hagrid laughed before leading the kids up to the massive front door. It looked as if it could for his whole house in it. He looked inside to see marble staircases and torches lighting the way. Albus had been to Hogwarts once three years, but by floo and had only seen the headmaster's office.
Hagrid smiled at them before opening the door to reveal Neville Longbottom, Albus's godfather and Hogwarts Herbology Professor.
"Hello students!" He cheered happily, eyes scanning over the crowd of children, eyes finding Albus and winking. Uncle Longbottom was a very kind man who loved plants."bigger group this year, Anyways Welcome to Hogwarts." as soon as Longbottom had said 'Hogwarts' the flames of the torch grew higher. "Please follow me."
He turned around and walked along a flagged floor and Albus could hear laughter from the doorway to the right. He was sure that's where the students we're, but Longbottom had led them to a small chamber were a group of ghost sat talking. Albus could hear a few students gasp and one screamed, causing the ghost to look at them.
"First years!" Albus recognized the ghost as once. It was Nearly Headless Nick, the Gryffindor house ghost.
"This is bigger than last years" another ghost which Albus didn't recognize said.
Albus looked around, wondering how small the second year class was because almost was sure there was only about 50 students.
Longbottom turned to them and again have a kind smile. "The start-of-banquet feast is about to began but you all have to be sorted. There are four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house had produced many extraordinary witches and wizards. While you are here, you success will earn you house points and your misdeeds will lose points. At the end of the year the house with the most points will be rewarded the house cup, which is a great honor. Once you get out into your house, your fellow housemates will be like a family. You will have classes together, sleep in the same dormitory, and spend your time in your house common room. The sorting ceremony will take place in a few minutes so prepare yourselves. Do not worry about the other students. They are all just hoping you get out into their house. I'll come back when it's time." He nodded to them before turning and walking out a side door that sounded like it led the great hall where the students sat.
The ghost had all flown out and Albus could here a few students asking about them.
"It's still the sorting hat right?" Albus asked, a bit worriedly. His father said he could ask the fat to put him in another house but what if there was a new sorting systems. One that wouldn't let him decide.
"I hope." Scorpius whispered shaking a bit. After a minute of talking, Longbottom can back in. "Line up." He told them and quickly Albus stood behind Scorpius and in front of a girl with bright red hair that reminded him of some of his cousins.
