Chapter 24
A/N: So, hey guys. I just want to warn you, I might rush the plot a little bit. You see, I never intended to write so much fluff, I just couldn't resist. So if the story seems a bit rushed, please forgive me, we're only halfway through and I feel like I've dragged it for quite awhile. So here's a bit of the fluff I wanted to add in before making the serious stuff happen.
Also I had recently moved, and I'm switching schools sadly.
3rd POV -2 days later-
"Alright, due to my hopes of this year's batch of genin being hopefully stronger and smarter, I'm giving you a D-rank mission harder than most, and mentally draining as well." Naruto watched, not really that interested, as the 4th Hokage made an announcement to the two teams currently in the office.
That is correct, two teams. The genin in the room consist of Sasuke, Naruko, Neji, TenTen, and Rock Lee. Naruto isn't considered one, seeing as he's multiple ranks above them.
"Now, where is-?" Bang!
Naruto's head shot towards the door, nearly throwing a kunai. Don't startle an ANBU like that...you might get yourself impaled by a weapon. Naruto stared at the three new people on the room, the blonde being the first to speak
"I-I'm so...so sorry we....we're late...Hokage-sama." Ino breathed out, panting with beads of sweat falling off her face.
Shikamaru sighed, fixing us shirt while heavily panting as well. "Troublesome blond making us so late." He muttered under his breath, dodging a hit to the face by said blond.
Choji, who nearly looked as if he were passed out, was leaning on the doorframe, exhausted. His bag of chips was completely crushed, the leftover pieces littering the floor around him.
The Hokage coughed a few times, awkwardly looking at the situation. "So, why are so late?" He questioned them.
"I'm sorry, Hokage-sama, but as we were about to leave, I forgot something important....and something else just started. I had to go back and change...err...you know." Ino blushed, scratching the back of her head while awkwardly laughing it off.
Shikamaru, in the mean time, hit his face with his hand, making his way to the other genin.
"Very well...that's an exception. Now, hurry on to the house. Kakashi and Guy will be leading you to the client, and the reason why there are so many of you will softly be answered. You are dismissed." He turned back to the stacks of paperwork that seemed to only multiply by the day.
"Ok, let's go."
"HOW YOUTHFUL, TRAVELING TOGETHER IN A GROUP!"
"SO VERY YOUTHFUL, GUY-SENSEI!"
"LEE!"
"GUY-SENSEI!"
"LEE!"
"GUY-SENSEI-!"
"Shut up! Stop taking you idiots!"
"S-Sorry Ino..."
-time skip-
And that's what brought the, to their current location; a small house covered by dense trees a little further away from the village.
Naruto's POV
I stood in line, looking at the peaceful house covered in vines and flowers. It seems in good shape, maybe we need to fix something inside? Or is it an errand? I've never been on a D-rank mission before, I have no idea how easy they might be.
"We're here. Now, your mission will be to babysit for a few days. Maybe 3-4." Kakashi smiled, taking out his orange book. Guy was about to say something, but Kakashi slammed a hand over his mouth.
"Hah?!" Everybody yelled out in surprise, save for Sasu-nii and I.
"That is correct. The reason why we have three teams is to make sure we find the best people capable of taking care of 3 children- below the age of 7. But of course, the children will be choosing their caretaker based on likes, looks, and personality. Line up, now, and smile~!"
Kakashi seemed too happy about this...
I watched as he knocked on the door a few times, stepping back as the wooden door creaked open. A young woman, who I'm guessing is in her early twenties, walked out, a bright smile on her face. I sensed three other presences in the house. They must be the children.
"Ah, you must be the sitters! Come on out, dears." She made way for the children, who took turns observing us from their doorway.
"Yes, as promised, your kids can pick who will spend the next few days with them. Introduce yourselves, name, likes, dislikes, and hobbies!" Kakashi clapped, acting as if we were still academy students. It must be engraved into his mind to act like this...
"I'm Shikamaru Nara. I like cloud watching, taking naps, Shogi, and sometimes reading. I dislike troublesome things. Again, my hobbies are cloud watching and sleeping."
"I'm Ino Yamanaka. I like a certain somebody, flowers, and my friends. I hate idiots and annoying brats. My hobbies are trying out new makeup styles I guess."
"I'm Choji Akamichi! I like chips and food. Exercise isn't really my thing, but I don't mind it. Don't. Call. Me. Fat. I'm warning you. My hobbies are eating and spending time with Shikamaru."
"I'm Neji Hyuuga. I like....training? I dislike many things, and my hobbies are....watching Hinata-sama. Fate is....I can change it. So I think about that a lot as well."
"Hi! I'm TenTen-!" (Due to lack of space and info, I'm afraid we can't give her any more screen time.)
"HI! I AM ROCK LEE! OH HOW YOUTHFUL YOU LOOK!!-"
"I'm Naruko Uzumaki-Namikaze. I'm the Hokage's daughter! You brats better listen to me, I like new clothes and makeup. I hate idiots and people who think they can talk back to me. I hate it when people don't listen to me. My hobbies are watching my future husband and painting my nails."
"I'm Sasuke Uchiha. I like tomatoes, my family, training, and not much else. I hate fangirls, annoying people, humans who don't work hard, and other things. My hobbies are training and studying."
"Hello there! I'm Naruto Uchiha, and I like children, innocent things, cute stuff, green tea, cooking, my family and friends, and learning or training. I dislike bullies, coffee, and people who do bad things. My hobbies are trying out new recipes, looking at the moon, training, stretching, and teasing."
Each kid stepped forward towards us, and I took the moment to analyze their looks.
The oldest one, from what I can tell, has light brown hair and grey eyes. Adorable!
The middle child, a girl, has chestnut brown hair, blue eyes twinkling as she stared at our gear it seems. She looks so squishy!
The youngest is a boy, and has dirty blond hair. He had light green eyes, and doesn't look to be blood-related. It's nice that they adopted! So cuteee!
I watched, smiling, as the youngest stepped towards me, grabbing onto my sleeve. He also grabbed Sasu-nii's pants, however, and his mother questioned him.
"I want both of them to babysit me, please." He mumbles, looking down. He's. Too. Cute! I haven't played with children in years! I have to suppress the urge to pinch his cheeks...
I looked hopefully to the mother, who just shook her head and sighed, "ok then."
Then I faced Sasu-nii, who was having a fight with his inner self. He looks like he doesn't what to babysit these little munchkins!
The middle child grabbed Shikamaru's hand, and I heard him say, "troublesome child."
The eldest grabbed Neji by the arm, said Neji tried to get away from him.
"Great! Everybody else will be doing other D-rank missions while these 4 are left to suffer, bye bye!"
-time skip-
Now, me, Sasu-nii, Neji, and Shikamaru are seated at a dining table, the children playing with stuff animals. The woman was giving us a little tour and some insight on what would happen while she levees for a mission.
"I'm assuming you guys eat around the same time they do, if not, then just know that they eat about 30 minutes after they wake up, and then have lunch at 12 p.m, and then dinner at 6 p.m. Oh, they usually wake up at 8 a.m.
This house has two floors, no basement or attic. There's the kitchen, down the hall is the toilet, and the door next to that is the bath and shower. Down here is the living room. Next to that, here is one of the rooms. Sadly, I only have three since I was expecting three of you, but Kumaki wanted two sitters. Two of you will have to share."
I spoke up, "it's fine, me and Sasu-nii can share a bed." I poked his side, causing him to jump slightly.
"Ah, that's great. The other two rooms are located upstairs, as well as the second toilet and the childrens' rooms. Me and my husband's room is the one at the very end, please do not go there...I wish you luck."
-time skip-
"Wow! Your hair is so soft Naru-nee-chan!" I laughed, mixing the pot filled with curry.
"I'm making food right now, why don't you go bother Sasu-nii?"
"Okay! Sasuke-nii!"
"UGH-!"
"Sasu-nii~, he really wants to play. You've been keeping all the tomatoes to yourself, y'know he really likes them too."
"Fine, fine. I'm taking you to these really nice woods. We can play hide and seek-"
"Sasu-nii!"
"Okay, okay. Let's go look at those kiddy toys."
I sighed, looking over at the other two. They seem fine...for the most part. Well, Shikamaru's hair is down and it's being braided? Neji, too, actually. But he's swatting the small munchkin away. Poor him, he can braid my hair! No! Food! Self control!
I turned off the fire, smiling in content.
"Hiii! Naruto-sama!" I heard a familiar chirp, and looked around.
I spotted a raven by the window, holding a note. Kuro! She's here! I rushed to her, sticking my hand out as the paper fell into my hands.
"Itachi-sama wrote your a little something~." I raised an eyebrow. She looked a bit excited, and she's dancing around. Kuro usually doesn't dance around.
I opened the note, noticing that it had a few crevices and fold lines marked in it. Was it crumbled up? I read the note, my heart suddenly beating faster. Why am I like this? It's a note, a letter at most, I'm so weird.
I'm waiting outside. I have something I need to talk about with you.
I grinned, turning to the others. "Hey, I need to go somewhere real quick. The food is done, so no need to worry!"
After hearing the ok, I headed towards the door, walking out into the forest. That's when I noticed him- his Raven hair, black clothing, onyx eyes. My heart pounded as my face heated up. I'm happy it's dark, that's way he can't see my face clearly. Or at least the colors, but then again, I'm practically a white piece of paper.
"Hey." He greeted me, his hands behind his back.
"H-Hi. So, what'd you-?" I got cut off when he started walking over, and suddenly hugged me. Blood rushed to my face, and I wonder why. I smelled a sweet scent shortly afterwards. One that sparked memories. Lavender.
I looked over my shoulder, noticing a large bundle of light purple lavenders clasped between his thin fingers. Ah, he painted them again. Midnight black? I thought he would go for purple.
"I missed you, even though it's only been a short while." He mumbled, and I hugged him back, feeling safe in his arms.
"Me too."
We stood in silence for a few seconds, until Ita-Ita pulled away, coughing a few times.
"So, um, the reason why I wanted to see you. Well, it's a long story. But...Naru...I really like you. I've liked you for awhile now. The word more suitable is love, actually." I looked at him, his pale face now tinted red.
"I-I...." I stuttered, unsure how to respond.
"It's ok if you've never seen me more than a big brother. But...it's when we were separated that I realized how much I need you by my side, and how much I really worry about you. During this whole time,mi couldn't stop thinking about you, and I felt so lonely. I feel like I need to tell you this. I've waited a few years, and you're almost 14 now, so I thought this time would be best. Of course, I'm willing to wait more if you need time. But, let me say this again.
Naru....no...angel, I love you. Will you consider going on a date with me?" He pulled out the flowers, bowing at a 90° angle. I stood in shock, still processing what just happened.
But my heart pounded, tears welled up in my eyes, as happiness overflowed me. I grasped the flowers without hesitation, and he reacted almost instantly, jumping up and pulling me into a tight embrace. I heard him mumble, "thank you, thank you. I'll love you for all my life, thank Kami-sama."
I felt tears running down my cheek, and my urges to be with Ita-Ita were fulfilled. My heart skipped a beat at the thought of us going out. Is this what I secretly wanted?
"Naruto-chan?" I heard Sasu-nii call out, interrupting our right embrace.
"U-Uh, Ita-Ita?" I looked at him, panicking. I don't know how Sasu-nii would react to us.
"Right, on it." He dashed away, hiding in the trees.
"Naruto-chan? Oh, there you are." I turned to his direction, seeing a duck head. Yep, 100% that's Sasu-nii.
"O-Oh. Hi. So what did you need me for?"
"The brats spilled curry all over them. I don't know how to bathe children, and I asked Shikamaru and Neji already. They said 'If you don't want us to drown them go get Naruto' so here I am." He crossed his arms.
"Ah, I'll head over. Just give me a moment."
"Ok then." He walked towards the house, and I sighed in relief. Ita-Ita jumped back down, looking at Sasu-nii.
"So, I guess we'll see each other in a few days?"
"In a few days." I confirmed.
After that, he left, and I made my way to the house. And this familiar feeling came back. Loneliness? Or is it just me yearning to be with Ita-Ita.
I frowned, and punched my own cheeks. Focus. Children. Bath. Sleep.
"Hey Neji, can you get the soap?"
"On it-"
"BUBBLES! LOOK AT ALL THE BUBBLES!"
"IT'S A SEA! WEEEE!!"
"Children, no splashing. I don't want to get my clothes wet..." I mumbled, and just that moment, a huge wave splashed onto me.
"It's fine, I brought a spare. A few actually."
"Thanks, Sasu-nii. I'll change later and dry my clothes overnight. I have a spare too, but I'll use that later."-N.S.U
"Ah, brotherly love. Gah! Troublesome children....my clothes...."-S.N
"Why don't you give Shikamaru one of your spares Sasuke? I mean, this is practically a pool now. We're all soaking wet."-N.H
"No."-S.U
"Why not?"-N.H
"I can't have others wear the Uchiha's crest. You're not an Uchiha. Hn."-S.U
"Seriously! Troublesome Uchiha."-S.N
"IT GOT IN MY EYES! AHHHHH! ITS BURNING!"-Youngest child.
"Ah- water! Somebody get clean water!"-N.S.U
"MOVE IT!"-N.H.
Splash
"HEY! CURSE YOU!"
I watched as Neji hurried to grab the bucket, filling it with warm water from the sink. I grabbed the bucket from him, washing the poor child's face with water while trying to rinse his teary eyes.
"Y'know, I feel like Neji actually has a soft spot for children."-S.N.
"What do you mean?"-N.H.
"Well, you did push Shikamaru into the tub trying to get the bucket that was right behind him."-S.U.
"Well, he was in the way."-N.H
"Look, you broke him. He's not even trying to get out."-S.U.
"It's too troublesome trying to get out. I'll wait until most of the water drains."-S.N
"But you'll get sick. C'mon, up you go."-N.S.U
"Troublesome Naruto why are you treating me like I'm a kid? I'm older than you!"
"But you're mentally younger than me. Up you go. Do you need Neji to help carry you?"
"HELL NO!"-N.H.
"Nonono I'm going, I'm going."-S.N.
"Alright then. Bedtime children!"-N.S.U
I wrapped the small kids in towels, leading them into their rooms. I looked behind at the others. "You guys aren't following?"
"Why should we?" They all replied.
"Because I said 'bedtime children.' It's getting pretty late. You guys might be cranky in the morning if you don't sleep soon."
"HAH?!"
-time skip-
I opened my eyes, blinking a few times. I sat up, the bed shifting ever so slightly. My baggy clothes, or actually Sasu-nii's clothes, were suprisingly really comfortable.
I checked the time. '3.30...' I woke up a bit late now, didn't I? I glanced at Sasu-nii, and got up from the bed, heading downstairs. I walked out the front door, smiling as I saw the moon. It's so clear, so bright. And it's so peaceful. I sat down, listening to nature. This is my favorite time of the day. I always look forward to early mornings.
I heard a few soft footsteps, and looked behind me, surprised that somebody was actually awake.
"Ah, sorry. Did I wake you up?" I asked Neji. He shook his head.
"No, not at all. I just woke up for some reason. Are you always up at this time?" He questioned me, and sat down right beside me.
"No....I usually wake up earlier. Around 3 to 3:10." He looked suprised for a moment, then turned to the moon.
"I've never seen the moon so bright....or so big. Wow....you see this everyday?"
I nodded, "yep. I used to wake up around 4 when I was younger. I guess I just wanted to see the moon more often or longer. Y'know, get my minds off things and prepare for a long day."
We sat in silence for awhile, until Neji asked me another question.
"Hey, don't you ever get lonely staring at the moon for two to three hours? By yourself, nobody around to talk to. And you don't seem sleepy at all. You of all people should have bags under your eyes."
I chuckled. "Nah, I don't need much sleep. And....well somebody used to accompany me during these hours. So I don't get lonely."
"...I see. So...about your-"
"My byakugan?" I cut him off, knowing this topic would appear. He nodded, and looked at my eyes.
"It's different. Did you know that?"
"No....I didn't have a chance to find a mirror before I fainted....you know what? Today...I'm a bit more tired than usual. Too much had happened. Please, let's talk about it on a different day." I stood up, silently bidding goodbye to the bright moon hovering above the trees.
"Ok." He responded, yet stayed. I guess he wanted to watch the moon longer. Usually, I would too.
I made my way back to the bedroom me and Sasu-nii shared, sliding into bed and closing my eyes.
I should just sleep. The little munchkins take a lot of energy to control.
