Ciao, Alberto

Alberto Scorfano laid outside in the tree hideout. It's been a couple of weeks since Luca left for school with Giulia, but we both enjoy getting his letters. "Alberto!" I shouted scaring him. "Chiara, you scared the scales off of me!" Alberto exclaimed. "You're getting good at this." "Yup, I also came to tell you that Luca sent us a letter." I said, opening the letter. ""Dear Alberto and Chiara, guess what? We got to use the big telescope at school today! It can see really far, but not Portorosso far. Tell me how everything's going. Miss you both. Ciao, Luca.""

Alberto's POV

I was figuring out what to write to Luca all week, but my solution was right in front of me the whole time. ""Dear Luca, life in Portorosso is awesome, everything's perfect, especially my new job. I'm kinda the greatest fisherman in the entire world, besides Massimo, of course. Me and him, we're like pasta and pesto, but not like me and Chiara. Massimo tells me everything. Well, he would, if he talked, which he doesn't. Ever. Unless I'm breaking a rule and Chiara doesn't correct me first. And even then, it's not much. But I think he'll come around. I'm gonna be the perfect employee, and I'll make Massimo and Chiara proud. Ciao, Alberto.""

Chiara's POV

This morning, I found Alberto laying on the boat with Machiavelli. "Alberto!" I called. "I know, I know, I shouldn't use the boat on my own." Alberto explains. "Am I fired?" "You're late." Uncle Massimo replied with a grunt. Alberto stepped out of the boat and ran to grab Giulia's bike. "No problem, we've got this!" I said, running behind my boyfriend. "We'll be right back!" Alberto got on the bike. I sat in front of him. "Hey, why'd you do that?" Alberto asked. "Because, last time you rode a bike, you and Luca almost died." I recalled. "Fair enough. I can make the deliveries." Alberto said.

As I rode the bike, Alberto tossed the fish through some windows and at some doors. I hit the brakes once we got to the plaza. "Dude, I don't mean to brag, but Giulia's got some serious competition." Alberto complimented. "Aw, thanks." I smiled, kissing his cheek. All of a sudden, we turned to see my uncle dealing with unhappy customers. He glared at both of us. "Am I fired?" Alberto asked.

Around lunchtime, I was waiting for food with Alberto. I start humming a tune from Elvis Presley in my boredom. "Lunch is on me!" Alberto exclaimed, switching spots with Uncle Massimo. "Scusi, big guy." "Huh?" He wondered. "Are you sure you know what you're doing?" I asked. "Of course I do." Alberto replied. Once I sat down at the table, tomato pesto was splattered all over the place. "Mangia?" I took off my glasses to clean up the sauce with my finger. I licked that finger and was surprised by the taste. "Hmm, not bad." I commented.

Later today, Alberto and I were loading the fish onto the truck. "Just wait." Uncle Massimo said, looking at the fully loaded truck. Once he wasn't looking, Alberto grabbed the barrel of fish. Struggling to lift it, I decided to help out, but that ended with me falling in the ocean, changing to my sea monster form. Massimo came running to us and glared at Alberto. "I'm good!" I exclaimed.

Later that night, I was laying under the stars when I saw Alberto carrying a lantern to the boat. "Santa Mozzarella." I panicked quietly. Accompanied by Machiavelli, I quickly ran down to the dock to check on him. "Alberto?" I asked, boarding the boat. "Chiara. You're still awake." Alberto said as he dropped the lantern. "What are you doing out here? You know how my uncle feels about us using the boat by ourselves." I explained. "He won't mind." Alberto replied. "Once he sees the big catch we bring in, right? I'll make him proud." Machiavelli meowed in panic as the broken lantern started a fire. "Meow yourself." Alberto said to the cat. "Alberto, the boat's on fire!" I panicked. "The fire's leaking." Alberto gasped. "The fire's leaking!" "Quick, take Machiavelli to shore, I'll try to put the fire out!" I exclaimed. Alberto grabs Machiavelli and jumps into the water. Not far behind, I tip over the boat to extinguish the fire. "Massimo!" Alberto exclaimed. "I didn't mean to..." Massimo grunted at him. Alberto walked away in guilt. "Alberto, wait!" I shouted. My boyfriend didn't respond.

As soon as I got back inside, I was about to go into Giulia and Alberto's room, but I peeked inside to see him packing a suitcase. I walk back outside to see my uncle grabbing what was left of the boat. "Uncle, I think you should talk to Alberto." I said. "He seems very upset." As Alberto was about to leave, Massimo and I began to talk with him. "What are you doing?" Massimo asked. "I quit." Alberto sighed. "I can't do it. I'm not good at this. I'm not good at being your employee." "Silencio, Bruno." I recalled. Alberto kept walking away. "No." Massimo said. "Why do you care?" Alberto asked my uncle. "You don't even like me. You don't even talk to me." "Alberto!" I called. He continued walking. "Ma, Alberto..." Massimo started. "JUST LET ME GO, DAD!" Alberto shouted and we all gasped. He dropped the suitcase and Massimo helped pick it up. "I once made my father so angry, he punched a hole in a brick wall." Massimo explains. "Really?" Alberto asked. He nodded. "I never would've guessed Grandpa was that strong." I chuckled. "And then what happened?" Alberto asked. "Well, we fixed it." Massimo replied, holding out his hand, but ended up getting a hug from Alberto and me.

The next morning, the pescheria was closed because we needed to fix the boat. "I feel like we're gonna need a lot more paint." Alberto said. "Ah, she's seen worse, you know." Uncle Massimo explains. "Worse than fire?" I asked. "How much worse?" "Storms." He replied. "Waves bigger than the pescheria." We were both amazed by his story as we were fixing the boat. "No way!" Alberto gasped. "Tell us everything."
