His Pain (Snape x Reader)
Your POV
Today was the day that a specific celebrity would be starting at Hogwarts. Hagrid had gone to get him in the middle of the night and now we waited for him to show up with the rest of the new First Years. My eyes move to the Potions professor clad in his flowing black robes. He was lost in thought at how the new students, well I guess one in particular would look. The last time he saw the boy, was when he found his parents, Lily and James Potter dead. He had gotten to their home in Godric's Hollow too late. I was the one that had to pull him off of Lily after I found him hugging her lifeless body on the nursery floor. They both had died protecting their son, Harry, from Voldemort.
A part of Severus had died that day as well. The part of him that was able to love another. That part was full of nothing other than his childhood friend, Lily Evans. I've always wished that he would be able to one day move on from his feelings of her, but something tells me that-that wasn't going to change anytime soon.
"The new students have arrived."
Turning to the door of the potions class, Minerva is standing in the doorway. Her eyes bounce between the two of us for a moment before I raise my hand to wave at her.
"You can get the sorting started, we'll catch up."
She leaves quickly and I turn to look back at Snape, who was still standing in the same place, his eyes stuck forward as he was in a daze. This had more of an effect on him than I'd originally thought. Standing up straight after leaning on one of the tables I walk over to him. Putting my hand on his shoulder he tenses before he turns to me, jumping away from me slightly.
"Severus, come on."
He looks around for a second, smoothing his robes out as if to wipe off whatever he was thinking about.
"Minerva is getting the sorting hat ready. There's First Years that need their houses."
He nods slightly as we make our way to the Great Hall. I swallow slightly, fearful of what might happen this evening. The last couple weeks have been long from preparing for the new term, the news of a young wizard that was able to survive an encounter with the Dark One coming to light made it worse. Glancing over my shoulder as I greet a few students, I see Snape following, the same look on his face from earlier. No doubt he was replaying the night he lost Lily over and over.
Standing in front of him he walks into me as I put my hands on his chest slightly. He looks down at me, a couple of students making a slight joke under their breath as they see us.
"Severus, look at me."
His dark eyes come back to mine as he sighs slightly.
"Let me in."
His eyes dart away from mine, his hands finding my wrists as he tries to get me off of him. Only for him to fail as I grab his arms and get his attention again.
"It is only me, you do not need to suffer on your own."
Looking at me for a moment, I let him go. His eyes flashed every emotion he was withholding from the last couple of days in them. Letting him go, I watch as he takes his place at the table, sitting next to Professor Quirrell. Taking my own spot, I glance to Trelawney and Flitwick for a moment. Doing my best to focus on the Sorting Hat, my breath catches in my throat as I see a familiar face. One that could be easily mistaken as a ghost.
The sorting hat places him in Gryffindor and I blink as I watch him go to his house table. There was a slam of a door behind us, turning to look I see that Snape is gone. Getting up I make my way out of the door after him, catching him after a mere second or two as he didn't get far.
"Did you see him?"
"I did, he looks-"
He cuts me off as he grimaces.
"Exactly like that swine, James."
Sighing I look at him.
"Severus, did you notice that he has Lily's eyes?"
With the finish of my sentence he falls to his knees. Rushing to him I kneel down as I pull him into me. The sound of his gasps muffled from my clothes as we sit on the castle floor.
"Why does he have to have her eyes?"
"I don't know."
"Why does he have to look like him?"
"He's their son, Severus."
"Why must they torment me more?!"
Pulling him up enough for him to look at me, the water in his eyes falling down his face as he looks at me. "Severus, please. I know it hurts-"
"You know nothing!"
"She was my friend too!"
He stands as he shakes his head, pointing at me.
"You didn't love her like I did!"
Standing I narrow my brows at him as I look at him.
"No, I didn't. The man I love like you loved Lily, didn't die that night, I just found him holding another as he wept!"
There was a silence for a moment, the two of us staring at each other before I shook my head and turned to leave. Ignoring him as he calls after me. Heading back to my quarters, I slammed the door behind me, the fireplace coming to life as I get inside. Sitting on the floor in front of it I pull at my hair.
Why did I have to say that? After all these years, why now?! I've kept the secret for this long, I was ready to take it with me to the grave! Now it has to come out on the night the new First Years get here, the very night that he's broken up over the reminder of her!
There was a knock on my door, I close my eyes to ignore it before I hear it again. Getting up I huff slightly, throwing the door open as I glare at whoever is interrupting my current melancholy. My eyes soften slightly as I see Severus standing there. Before I could close the door on him, he puts his large pale hand on it, pushing it open again as he steps inside. Letting go of the doorknob, I turn and sit in one of my armchairs. The door closes and I watch as a bit of his robes come around the chair I was in. Getting up again I move to a different spot away from him.
"You're going to run out of furniture if you keep doing that."
"Then leave."
There was a gentle sigh as he sat down.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"Tell you what?"
"About how you felt."
"How can I tell you when you were too busy being broken up over Lily, even after 11 years!"
He leans forward as he looks at me from the chair he was in.
"I was wrong."
"Really? The Potion Master Severus Snape is telling me he was wrong?"
He shakes his head as he stands and walks over to me. "I am. I don't know why I didn't see it sooner."
"See what sooner?"
"How I felt about you."
Looking at him slowly, my brow line softening as he sits next to me.
"After you admitted your feelings to me, soemthing changed. It was like this wave came over me and everything that I thought I knew was wrong. I did love Lily, yes. I'm a fool for being stuck on her after all these years, when the only one that was there for me when I needed her the most, was you. Even after I turned to be a Death Eater. You were still with me, even when I ended up pushing you away like a petulent child."
He pauses for a second as he grabs my hand in his gently.
"Lily ran to James at the first sign of trouble, she even told me to find better friends a few times, but you never have. You've been next to me through everything and I love you."
Taking a moment to process his words, I look at him as his hand squeezes mine. He looks at me for a moment before he gives a soft smile, something that hasn't happened since he was a kid. He was always so serious after Lily died, I missed it.
"The new happiness I have is you."
SMiling gently he leans down to kiss my forehead. After a second or two of leaning against him, I punched his arm. Holding his hand where I punched him he looks at me.
"At least that hasn't changed."
"You deserve it, Sev. Being blind all these years when I was right here."
He chuckles as he nods.
"My eyes are wide open now, don't worry."
