Chapter 3: A New Perspective
Indah's parents were usually working, so Indah usually had lots of time to herself. With all this spare time, she read a lot. History fascinated her, and so did time travel, but what really had her heart was her passion for ghosts and other paranormal oddities. She was also clever as it happened to be, so she often pondered about the books of Kim-ly. Now, here she was, at the library where this Kim-ly woman stayed. "Nervous?" Asked Alab. "Eh.." Indah lied. She had been waiting for this moment, but she didn't understand why she felt so overwhelmed. Alab put their hand on her shoulder reassuringly. "Come on! I know them!" They walked inside. "This is really empty... AH!" Indah was startled by the lights suddenly turning on. "Woah... that's a lot of books...." Indah seemed like a kid in a candy store. "Yeah. It's amazing." Alab smiled, being happy that someone else appreciates it too. Suddenly a voice echoed. "Hello...? Oh Alab! You brought someone here? Introduce us!" Mateo said as he approached them. "D-did he just appear out of a cloud of smoke?" Indah asked. "Yeah, he does that. He's the one who does the illustrations in the book. Mateo meet Indah. She's my friend from school." Alab introduced. "Oh, well nice to meet you! Any friend of Alab's is a friend of mine." Mateo held out his hand for a handshake then put it away. "Oh yeah, can't psychically interact with mortals..." Mateo reminded himself. "Ah. Well, it's the thought that counts." Said Indah. "You are handling this very well." Alab sounded a bit impressed. "Hey, Kim!" Mateo yelled. "Alab brought another mortal to the library!" Alab's face flushed. "Yeesh, is that a bad thing?" "Nah." Kim-ly hovered over to them. "Just please keep the secret to a minimum please. Oh and nice to meet you, Indah." Kim-ly smiled. "O-oh my god it's an honor to talk to you. I'm a big fan!" Indah gushed. "Thanks." Kim-ly said. "What brings you here?" "The fascination of the paranormal and the book Alab let me borrow." Indah said. "Woah, they let you borrow their book?" Danielle butted in. "They must really like you!" "AAA WHERE DID YOU COME FROM!" Indah jumped. "Jesus, Dani, you nearly gave her a heart attack. And don't get it twisted, she's a friend." Alab said. "Sureeee...." Danielle poked. "She edits the books and sneaks them in to get published." Alab explained. "I'll show you around." They offered. "Thanks." Indah agreed. They walked around and spent most of the time reading, looking around, joking about their favorite parts of books, and being nerds and shipping the characters in the books. "Oh, it's 7. I should probably head back. That's usually the time my dad gets home, it's not everyday he's able to have dinner with me." Indah said. "Oh... bye! See you tomorrow!" Alab waved. As Indah left, Danielle gave Alab a knowing smile.
Indah opened the door of her house. "Welcome home." Her dad said at the table. "Sorry I'm late!" Indah said. "It's fine, I was just worried. I tried to call you. Where were you?" Asked Her dad. "A friend was showing me a library." She said, not mentioning the ghosts in any way. "Oh, really? Find any books or people you like?" Her dad asked. "Stop.. and book-wise, yes. It's about these two people who's lives were so miserable until they found each other. It's so good. And-" Indah started, but her dad's phone rung. "Sorry, sweetheart, gotta take this." Her dad said. Indah ate up and headed to bed, but instead of sleeping, she read the book all night. Soon she fell asleep at 1 am. She woke up at 6 due to her alarm, knowing that her dad was at work already. Indah walked to school. At the front of the school, she saw Alab waiting for her. "Hey, how was the book?" They asked. "Oh, uh.. I didn't finish it. Can I have it for a bit longer?" Indah asked, lying. To be honest, she wanted to keep the book longer because it comforted her somehow. "..sure. I'll ask Kim. If she gets mad, I'll take the blame, okay?" Alab said. Indah giggled.
For the rest of the day, she couldn't stop thinking about the book. "You really like that book, don't you?" Alab commented. "Yeah.. some reason it makes me comforted... like there's someone I can-" "-talk to about the rough stuff?" Alab finished. "Yeah... how did you know?" Indah asked. "Because it's the same here." Alab shrugged. "What could be wrong with your life? You are perfect." Indah said. "I'm flattered, but there's plenty of things..." Alab said, their face fell from the happy expression to disappointment. "Oh...uh... if you want to talk about it, you can." Indah said. "Same to you." Alab said, smiling a bit.
After school, Alab headed to the library. "...can I come with?" Indah blurted out. "Uh.. sure." Alab said. They were almost there when there was a large shake. "What the-" Alab said. "Earthquakes?" Indah suggested. "Couldn't be." Alab reasoned. They saw something or someone in the lake. "What... ALAB PLUG YOUR EARS!" Indah shouted as she instantly recognized what the figure was. "What is that?" Alab said, not listening. "A siren! They lure you in with-" Indah said. Alab suddenly walked towards it. "Ugh... I gotta do it myself." Indah said. She tried to stop Alab, but couldn't. "No...no...no...." Indah said, panicking. Her backpack fell on the ground due to the shaking and the book fell out. "Please..." Indah whispered. The book started to glow as it flipped open. Suddenly, two figures appeared from out of the book. "Hell yeah!" One shouted while the other looked at what was happening. "Get the bitch and I'll save the kid." The serious one said. The figure pulled out a sword and was battling the Siren. Indah shouted "Let me help!" The person from the book considered it and threw Indah a sword. Indah jumped onto the siren and stabbed it in the chest. "Woah! Lucky shot bonus!" The other yelled as he prevented Alab from being drowned. "What happened... who are you... Indah.. what's happening?" Alab asked. "It's okay." Indah walked over to Alab. "Who are you guys?" She asked the book people. "Two ghost who are in your book and decided to help." The one who battled the siren said. "I'm Aadiv and this is Mason." "I- these are the people in the book!" Alab said. "That's what he just said.." Mason commented. "Thanks for the help, but why did that happen and why was there a siren in the first place? And can I keep this sword?" Indah questioned. "Strange creatures will soon appear more. I wish i could explain more but I cannot. The ghosts in the books will help you against these fiends though. Yes, you make keep the sword, and here's a crossbow for the other one, as well as some medicine." Aadiv said. "Stay safe, kiddos! We believe in you!" Mason said. They both walked towards the book and disappeared. Indah and Alab both realized the siren's corpse was gone. "I almost became fish food! I- but that was awesome, Indah! You are so cool!" Alab said. "I owe you one." "Yeah you do." Indah said. They both realized someone was recording the whole thing. The person ran, but Indah and Alab were faster.
