Chapter 13- River of Death
Shindo froze in place as he struggled to think of what to do. Kurosawa pointed his cane at Shindo and started walking towards him. He took a deep breath and decided to run past Kurosawa and hope for the best. As Shindo ran, he noticed that the cave walls around him started to grow further apart. The area began to look more like the void from earlier.
What occurred next would baffle anyone. Even though Shindo kept moving away from Kurosawa, he found himself running in thin air. As he grew tired, the darkness around him lit up slowly, becoming orange. Once everything around Shindo turned orange, a force pulled him forward at what felt like a hundred miles per hour.
The next place Shindo found himself in made him wish he were falling again.
He stood on top of one of Oneirica's buildings near the gate. However, when Shindo looked down from the building, he saw a river of blood rather than a street. Looking around, he discovered the entire town inundated with blood flowing toward the gate and falling away into nothingness. The northern part of this hellish version of Oneirica should have had a castle, but it instead had an enormous skull with blood flowing out of its mouth and into the town's streets. The head also had dark eyes and red pupils.
Shindo closed his eyes and did his best to take in this new situation. How was he going to get out of this? Then, he remembered all of the obstacles he overcame earlier. He had come so far, and now he needed to get out of Oneirica. His instinct told him to go to the skull; maybe destroying it could stop everything.
The only problem was that he needed to swim in the blood. Taking a deep breath, Ryo Shindo dived into the street. Oddly enough, he could see while underwater, almost as if he were swimming in red-colored water. When he resurfaced, though, the blood became translucent like usual.
As Shindo kept swimming, he used building parts to take a break. All of these thoughts about Oneirica swirled through his head. From encountering the town for the first time to the locals to the onis, Shindo had an unforgettable experience. Now, it might come to an end.
Shindo reached the stairs that led to the skull. He climbed up, being careful not to get swept away by the river. At the top of the stairs stood Toshihiro Kurosawa.
