Chapter Twelve - Don't Deserve You.

"As promised, you now have to eat this!" Magnus announced as he brought a large plate of sandwiches into the living room for him and Alec. "But first I want to take a look at your hand." He set the plate down on the coffee table and sat beside Alec on the sofa, Alec tried to move his bruised hand out of Magnus's sight, "I told you, Magnus, it's fine."

"My husband doth protest too much, me thinks." Magnus smiled as he beckoned for Alec to hold out his hand, "Come on Alexander." Alec held out his uninjured hand and Magnus raised his eyebrows at him, "The other hand." He ordered.

"Don't be angry." Alec muttered as he reluctantly placed his bruised hand in Magnus's outstretched hands.

Magnus sucked an air of breath through clenched teeth and his eyes sparked dangerously as he took in the purple bruises ringing Alec's left hand and wrist. His pale hand was swollen and looked painfully sore, Magnus gently touched the side of Alec's wrist and Alec let out a yelp. "Sorry Sweet Pea." Magnus muttered, kissing Alec's hand softly. He touched each of Alec's fingers next, frowning as Alec winced. "I'm going to kill the bastard!" Magnus growled angrily, Alec's eyes widened and he pressed his uninjured hand to Magnus's cheek. "Magnus, Magnus look at me. I really am fine." Alec whispered softly, staring first at the floor then at Magnus. "Don't worry about him!"

Magnus smiled, "Do you want to know something?"

"What?"

"You always look at the floor when you lie." Alec smiled, pressing his lips to Magnus's cheek. "I'm fine. Really." The Shadowhunter muttered.

"Then explain why you have a broken wrist and fingers then Alexander! Is that fine to you? Because it's not fine to me!" Magnus exclaimed angrily, his eyes sparking with hurt and annoyance.

"How did you-" Alec started to say but Magnus cut him off, "I'm a Warlock, Alexander! I can cast spells! It wasn't hard to cast a spell to check for broken bones or fractures!" Magnus turned away from Alec, turning his attention back to his husband's hands as he cast a healing spell. Alec watched in awe as the bruises began to fade until his hand looked completely healed.

He pulled his hand back and slowly flexed his fingers and wrist. There was no pain at all. Alec quickly hugged Magnus tightly and disappeared into their bedroom. Magnus sighed, blinking back tears, as their bedroom door slammed shut. He hadn't meant to yell at Alec, it had just sort of happened. He had promised Alec that he wouldn't let anyone or anything hurt him and already he'd failed to protect him. Magnus lay back on the sofa, picking up a sandwich from the plate he was going to share with Alec, he let out three low whistles and waited. A quiet miaow echoed through the silence and a small smile passed across Magnus's face. "Hello Chairman." He murmured as he picked up the tiny cat.

He held the sandwich out to the cat just to see if the Chairman would dare to take a bite from it. He didn't. Instead he curled up on Magnus's chest and closed his eyes purring contently. Magnus smiled as he placed the sandwich back on the plate so that he could stroke his cat. He soon fell fast asleep having nightmares filled with people who were all trying to hurt Alec.

Alec sat on the edge of the bed with a sigh, he hated it when Magnus yelled especially when it was directed at him. Tears stung his eyes and he stared through his blurred vision at his bottle of tablets on the bedside table. His hands shook violently as he picked the bottle up and stared at its contents. 'Just take one,' his conscience told him, 'you need it.'

'You're wrong!' He screamed internally, 'I don't need anything!' He clambered up onto the bed and reached up and opened the top window. Stretching his arm backwards, he threw the bottle as far as he could out of the window, smiling grimly to himself as he heard the bottle smash. 'I don't deserve you Magnus, I'm sorry.'
