Chapter Ten - Eclipse (All Yours).
Alec woke with the midday sunlight streaming onto his face, Magnus's arms were still wrapped - almost protectively - around him and the warlock was still fast asleep. Alec smiled to himself as he moved Magnus's arms back into the bed so that he could get up and get dressed. "Alec." Magnus mumbled as he turned over in his sleep, Alec held his breath for fear that Magnus would wake but he just settled back down and continued to sleep. Alec released his held breath and hurriedly began to dress in a pair of denim shorts and a grey vest shirt. He slipped on a pair of trainers that he'd brought in one of the suitcases and left the house.
*****
Magnus turned onto his side, his eyelids fluttering open as he woke with a small smile on his face as he expected to see Alec lying beside him. But Alec was gone. Magnus leapt out of the bed and clicked his fingers. Suddenly he was wearing a blue sequinned T-shirt and black skinny jeans and sandals. He snatched Alec's tablet bottle up from the bedside table and hurriedly counted them. Twenty-seven. Alec hadn't taken his tablet again. "Alec?" Magnus called, walking out of the bedroom and into the living room. No Alec. The same thing occurred in both the kitchen - which showed no sign of Alec eating breakfast either - and the bathroom. "Dammit Lightwood!" Magnus snapped, as worry began to chill his nerves.
*****
Alec ran one more lap of the beach before lying down in the sand. He was drenched in sweat and his dark fringe was sticking to his forehead. His stomach rumbled loudly and he sighed, "Shut up you." He murmured as he slowly stood up. He felt bad for lying to Magnus the other night but he really didn't want to tell Magnus the real dream and spoil the honeymoon. He sighed and began to head back towards the house, where he hoped that Magnus would be awake by now. He ran his hands through his hair brushing the sand free from his dark locks as he opened the front door. Almost instantly something - or rather someone - flew at him, barely giving him a chance to outstretch his arms to catch Magnus. "Where the hell have you been?!" Magnus yelled as he hurriedly pulled back away from Alec. Alec frowned as he pointed over his shoulder at the open front door, "I went out."
"You scared me half to death!" Magnus yelled, "I woke up and found that you weren't there! You didn't even take your mobile!" He threw Alec's phone at him; Alec caught it, still frowning. Tears shimmered in Magnus's eyes giving Alec all the information he needed. Magnus wasn't really angry, just concerned for him. "Magnus, I'm fine. See!" Alec gestured down at himself as though he was proving his point. "But I didn't know that!" Magnus snapped, brushing away the falling tears irritatedly. Alec stepped forward and wrapped his arms around his husband, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I won't do it again." He kissed the top of Magnus's head, rubbing Magnus's back soothingly. "You'd better not," Magnus mumbled into his chest, "if you do..."
"It's not exactly nighttime but how about we have a picnic on the beach so that I can make it up to you?" Alec suggested as he released Magnus from his embrace. Magnus nodded with a smile, "I like the sound of this making it up to me date." Alec's face turned scarlet as he smiled over at his husband. "But one thing." Magnus stated.
"What?"
"You have to promise to eat something." Magnus said solemnly.
"I have been eating." Alec lied, "What gave you the impression that I hadn't?"
"Oh, nothing. Shall we pack the lunch and go?"
*****
When the lunch was packed into a wicker basket the couple set out, hand in hand, towards the beach. Magnus stared at Alec the whole way to the beach, the smile that curved his lips, his dark hair as it was whipped around by the breeze, his blue eyes as they reflected the ocean. Alec glanced out of the corner of his eyes at Magnus and raised his eyebrows, "Why are you looking at me like that?." His cheeks began to turn scarlet, as he glanced away attempting to ignore the fact that Magnus was still watching him. "Because you're beautiful." Magnus replied, pressing his lips to Alec's cheeks. Alec ducked his head and smiled, his cheeks flushing into a burning crimson. "I'm going to kill Catarina for telling you about that book." He murmured.
"You love it really!" Magnus retorted in a singsong tone of voice.
Alec laughed, "What will it take to get you to stop?"
Magnus shrugged nonchalantly, "That depends on what you are willing to give me." A smirk curled his lips and Alec smiled, "This." He said pressing his lips hurriedly against Magnus's before pulling back, "Race you to the beach!" He yelled, dropping Magnus's hand and sprinting off down the sandy bank. "Hey! You had a head start!" Magnus yelled, racing after Alec with a grin. He slid down the side of the bank and almost crashed into the back of Alec who had stopped dead. "Alec?" Magnus asked, placing a hand on his husband's shoulder, "Are you okay?" Alec nodded but Magnus could tell he wasn't. "Sit down." Magnus ordered, taking the basket from Alec's hands and forcing the Shadowhunter to sit down on the sand; Magnus crouched in front of him, cupping Alec's cheeks with his hands.
Alec stared just past Magnus at the crowded beach. "Alec. Alexander, look at me." He brushed Alec's fringe back from his eyes tilting Alec's face towards him. His blue eyes were wide and terrified, Magnus's heart lurched painfully. It always hurt him to see Alec so panicked. "Alexander," Magnus whispered, "it'll be okay I promise you. Nothing is going to happen. I'm right here, right beside you okay?" Alec's eyes slowly moved away from watching the other people to looking at Magnus. He nodded slowly and let Magnus help him to stand up, "There's so many people." He whispered hoarsely, "They're going to be like the guy on the plane."
"They won't. Now, stay here. I'll be right back with ice cream." Magnus said, pointing at the spot on the beach where he wanted Alec to stay.
Alec's eyes watched him, seeming to scream: Don't leave me here alone! Magnus smiled sadly, "I'll be five minutes." He kissed the top of Alec's head and headed over to the parked ice cream van. Alec dragged his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms tightly around his legs. Magnus had been gone barely a minute before someone sat opposite Alec, he glanced over at the auburn haired guy. The guy's hair was gelled into spikes and his skin was tanned, possibly from spending the whole day on the beach and beside him on the sand was a surfboard. Green eyes glinted up at Alec. "I'm guessing this seat isn't taken?" The guys said, with a smile. "I'm Jason." He held a hand for Alec to shake, Alec stared down at his hand but didn't take it.
"What's your name then handsome?" Jason asked, Alec could feel the hot rush of blood filling his cheeks. 'Is he flirting with me?!' He yelled internally, 'By the Angel, where's Magnus?'
"Well?" Jason asked, snapping Alec from his panicky thoughts, "Do you have a name?"
"Alec." Alec replied stiffly, his eyes darting wildly around the beach for a glimpse of Magnus.
"Short for Alexander I assume?" Jason continued, Alec nodded. Jason reached out and touched Alec's hand lightly and Alec snatched his hand away. 'Come on Magnus! Where are you?!' He thought.
"What's the matter?" Jason asked, "Do you not like me?"
"I don't even know you." Alec mumbled, he stared down at his hands feeling guilty. "Well you could get to know me." Jason shuffled closer, entwining his fingers with Alec's, "If you want."
