5. An encounter in Asakusa

After traveling for two days, Akira came to the busy city of Asakusa. She had to admit, compared to the red light district, this city was a lot more tame.

The streets were bustling with people, and Akira found herself smiling at the sight of children running around, laughing and playing. The air was filled with the scent of delicious food, and she could hear the sound of vendors calling out to customers.

"What a lively place!" She exclaimed, taking it all in.

As she went about looking for potential places to play, she suddenly pumped into a burgundy haired boy who was walking with what appeared to be his sister. The boy had a green and black checkered haori. His sister was wearing a pink kimono and a dark haori and strangely had a bamboo muzzle. Akira could sense that the girl was a demon but unlike other demons this girl's aura was sunny and almost human. She sensed no ill intention from her.

"I'm so sorry!" Akira exclaimed, bowing in apology.

The boy looked up at her, his eyes widening in surprise.

"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice filled with concern.

"I wasn't watching where I was going, I'm so sorry!" Akira said, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

It was then that she noticed that he was wearing a demon slayer uniform.

"You're demon slayers?"

"That's right." The boy said, nodding. "I'm Tanjiro Kamado, and this is my sister Nezuko." He added, gesturing to the girl at his side.

"She's not dangerous, I promise." Tanjiro said, sensing her apprehension. "She's been like this ever since she was turned into a demon, but she's never hurt anyone."

Akira looked at the demon girl with a gentle smile.

"I believe you. I sense no malicious intent from her. I would love to stay and chat but unfortunately I have to find a place to sleep for the night and maybe get some employment."

"Of course, you must be tired after your journey." Tanjiro said, understanding her need to rest. "If you don't mind my asking, what brings you to Asakusa?" He asked, curious about the girl who had bumped into him.

"Well I'm a musician, you see? I came here to play some music and make some money while doing so." She replied with a smile.

"A musician? That's amazing!" Tanjiro said, his face lighting up with admiration. "What kind of music do you play?" He asked, genuinely interested.

"Do you play the koto?" He added, guessing from the instrument case she was carrying.

"You guessed it." She replied with a grin. "I have to go now, it was a pleasure meeting you Tanjiro and Nezuko."

"The pleasure was all mine." Tanjiro said, bowing deeply. "I hope you find a place to stay, and I wish you all the best in your musical career." He added, as he watched Akira leave.

Nezuko waved goodbye, and Tanjiro waved back, a smile on his face.

Akira couldn't help the feeling of nostalgia as she thought about the Kamado siblings. It made her miss her own sister.

"Perhaps once I'm done here I'll pay Amane and Lord Kagaya a visit."

The thought of seeing her sister again filled Akira with a sense of longing. She missed Amane's kind smile, and Lord Kagaya's gentle wisdom.

"Oh, how I wish I could see them again." She said, her heart aching with homesickness.

She was able to find sleeping quarters quite easily and when the host learned about her music talent, she was generous enough to let her play in the boarding house.

"You're so kind, thank you." Akira said, deeply grateful for the woman's generosity. "I hope my playing will bring you many customers and perhaps I can earn enough money to pay for my stay here."

As she played for the guests, Akira could not help but think back to the night she had spent with Kokushibo.

"I wonder what song I should play for him. He did request one." She thought. "I wonder when I will see him again.

As Akira pondered what song to play for Kokushibo, she found herself humming a melody that had been stuck in her head for days. It was a haunting tune, one that seemed to echo the night sky and the stars above.

"This one is perfect." She said to herself, as she began to play.

She fell asleep to the melody of her song. Her dreams were haunted by a certain demon. She woke up a little later in the night noticing that the city seemed to be a bit more chaotic than usual.

The streets were filled with people running around, and Akira could hear the sounds of screams and sirens in the distance. It was as if the whole city was in a state of panic.

"What is going on?" She wondered, feeling a sense of foreboding.

"It's horrible!" The woman exclaimed, her eyes wide with fear. "There's been an attack, right in the middle of the city. People are saying it was a demon, but I don't know if I believe that." She said, her voice trembling.

"They say this poor woman got attacked by her own husband, right in the middle of the street."

Her heart was suddenly racing. A demon attack in the middle of the city? And she had somehow missed it?

Akira felt a sense of dread as she thought about what this could mean. If a demon had attacked so brazenly, then it must be incredibly powerful. She couldn't help but wonder if it was one of the Uppermoons.

"I have to find out more." She thought, as she hurried towards the center of the city.

"I wonder if it's Kokushibo?" She thought. "No, it couldn't be him. Right?"

Akira's mind was racing as she hurried through the crowded streets. She couldn't get the thought of Kokushibo out of her head. She didn't want to believe that he was behind the attack, but something in her gut told her that he might be.

"I need to find out the truth." She said, as she turned a corner and found herself in the heart of the city.

The first thing she saw was Tanjiro holding down a demon whilst the police tried to pry him off.

Akira was shocked to see Tanjiro in such a state, his face twisted with anger and his hands locked around the demon's throat.

"Stop!" A policeman yelled, as he and several others tried to pull Tanjiro away from the demon. "We need to take him in for questioning!"

Akira knew the policeman wouldn't believe anything they said so she did the most logical thing and struck his pressure point , making him fall unconscious.

The police officers were caught off guard by Akira's sudden action, and they looked at her in shock.

"What did you do?" One of them demanded, as they stared at the unconscious policeman.

"He's just asleep." Akira said, trying to calm the situation. "I don't think he's injured, but I'm not a doctor."

She knew she had to find out what had happened from Tanjiro for his face held nothing but anger.

"Tell me Tanjiro, what happened?" She asked him.

"Muzan Kibutsuji..." Was all he said in a voice filled with such loathing it made her shiver.

"We've got to get this man away from here." Akira said as she looked around for a way for them to take the man whom Kibutsuji had turned far away from innocent civilians.

Akira, although she had chosen to be a musician was no stranger to some secrets of the demon slayer corp. She was quite familiar with the name of Muzan Kibutsuji. She only hoped that the poor boy Tanjiro hadn't encountered him directly.

As she was still contemplating what to do, a beautiful dark haired woman suddenly appeared. Next to her stood a green haired. Their appearance looked familiar. She remembered how Kagaya had told her of two demons, Tamayo and Yushiro, who worked with the demon slayers to fight the demon progenitor.

"Akira-san, I see you have found yourself in a precarious situation." The dark haired woman said, her voice melodic and soothing. "I am Tamayo, and this is Yushiro."

She introduced herself and the green haired demon.

"We have come to help you." She added, as she approached the unconscious demon. "If you would allow it, I can heal his wounds."

Akira and Tanjiro were grateful for their help. She found that the two were quite hospitable.

"You're welcome." Tamayo said, as they took both the man and his wife.

"Please do not worry about him escaping. Yushiro can restrain him if necessary. We will help them bothe heal but we cannot do it from out here in the open. I will send Yushiro later on to escort you to our place." She said.

"We are grateful for your help. Please look after Tanjiro and his sister. I have something I need to do. It was a pleasure meeting you all." Akira said as she bowed slightly.

"It was a pleasure meeting you as well, Akira-san." Tamayo said, bowing in return. "Please take care of yourself, and know that you are always welcome here." She added, a warm smile on her face.

"Farewell." Akira watched as Tamayo and Yushiro disappeared with the demon in tow, before she turned to Tanjiro.

"Are you alright?" She asked, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Tanjiro reassured her and, when she was satisfied that the two siblings were okay, she bid them farewell as she made her way back to her room.

As Akira walked back to her room, she could not help but think about everything that had happened. Meeting Tamayo and Yushiro had given her a renewed sense of hope, and she felt more determined than ever to fight against Kibutsuji. However, she could not shake the feeling of dread that lingered in the back of her mind. A feeling that something terrible was about to happen.

There was also the feeling that something or someone was watching. She found herself missing Kokushibo's company even if she has only seen him twice.

Akira had not expected to feel such a strong connection to a demon, especially one who had once been a ruthless killer. But there was something about Kokushibo that she could not quite put into words. It was as if he was more than just a demon, but something else entirely. As she lay in her bed, she wondered if she would ever see him again.

The next day she got to play her music by the market place. It was such a refreshing experience to play in such an open space and for regular people.

As Akira played her koto, she could feel the music flowing through her like a river, carrying her away from all her worries and troubles. It was as if she was transported to another world, a world where only the music existed. The crowd gathered around her, entranced by the notes that she was playing.

Later on that day, she finally decided it was time she left Asakusa. She hadn't spent a lot more time there but she sensed that there was something quite ominous about the place. For once she decided not to explore this feeling of dread. She left the city and began walking without any particular destination in mind.
