Unmei gave a gentle pat to the little demon who came out of her box that evening. They had arrived at the Wisteria mansion and she had rested enough to continue on her journey. Apart from the noise Inosuke continued to cause she was at peace. She decided to take her leave, she wasn't a demon slayer after all.
"Lady Unmei can't you stay over here for the evening. You might run into dangerous demons out there, why don't you do it when it's safe" the Kamado boy insisted.
"You want to be a demon slayer and yet you worry about going out at night? Tsk.... Don't worry about me, I'll be fine, you however should change your way of thinking" she said.
"I will. Thank you for that. I will see you soon" Tanjiro bowed and smiled. Such a gentle and kind hearted soul she thought to herself.
"But... You can't really go out there..." Zenitsu said his face was completely pale with fear.
She wondered how the yellow haired boy became a demon slayer if he was so scared, but she could sense how much power and potential he had.
"I'll be fine-"
"Lady!!!! When you come back I'll be fully healed and then after that I'll cut you up into pieces ha ha ha ha!!!" Inosuke yelled and chuckled loudly.
"I will see you then" Unmei said and with that she gave a small nod to Tanjiro and left.
She went off. Her heart was beating fast hoping that Akaza would be able to come find her. She arrived at the base of the mountain.
Something was wrong and she sensed a very powerful demon. She had felt this surge of power before.
She went towards the direction of the noise and found a girl with lavender eyes and silver blond hair ducking and running as she was being attacked by an unknown adversary. She looked, and found out where the source of her attacks were coming from. Kokushibo.
"Kokushibo" she called out to him but all he saw was red.
He charged towards the lavender haired girl in an attempt to slash but his slash did not touch her skin. Unmei's sword had blocked his attack and she stood in the middle of them and looked closely at him. What had gotten into him
The young woman cried as she held her shoulder clearly. She was hurt.
"Kokushibo, I demand to know what is going on here?" Unmei said angrily as she pushed Kokushibo back with all her might.
"Unmei get out of my way, I want to kill her. How dare she?..." he said through gritted teeth.
"Kokushibo, I don't look forward to hurting you. It's either you tell me what's going on or I will have to cut you down" She warned him.
Kokushibo pulled back only for him to unleash his blood demon art.
"Moon breathing first form" Two horizontal slashes came towards them and she quickly pushed the young woman to the ground in order to help her evade the attack.
The woman fell and cried out in pain.
She narrowly evaded the attack..
"Fine. Have it your way. Moon breathing third form Loathsome Moon, Chains"
Continuous succession of each of her attacks appeared and made the crescent slashes appear to be in a chain, trying to grab Kokushibo but narrowly he narrowly skips and avoids the attack. He was amazed, she had perfected the breathing style already.
"Sun breathing third form, raging sun" she launched her attack. Kokushibo narrowly avoided it.
The young woman watched on though in pain she was stunned to see someone who could keep up with the Upper moon demon. The breathing style was similar to the one she had seen from that swordsman she had encountered.
"Kokushibo, stop this foolishness" Unmei yelled.
"She has broken my trust. For that she deserves to die!" he shouted angrily and stood firm ready to launch another attack.
"I don't know what you are talking about Koku-san." The young woman said as she cried.
"Clearly you don't have a better way of resolving an issue Kokushibo. Can't you see she's in pain?" Unmei said in disapproval her hand held firm on her sword.
"You were with him. Of all the men in the world, him. You have betrayed me Akira and for that I cannot let you live ". His anger was accompanied with a sadness that hung in the air.
"You mean Tsunahisa-san? Kokushibo, is this why you want to kill me? I just accompanied him up the mountain, it did not mean anything" she cried out. Kokushibo's face was enraged.
"Yoriichi! I don't care if you change his name. I am going to kill you then him" he shouted.
Unmei was confused. Yoriichi passed away a long time ago according to her father because of old age.
"Listen to me Kokushibo calm down so we can talk. I think I know what is going on here" Unmei tried to reason with him.
"Enough!" Kokushibo shouted and charged towards Unmei and the girl at full speed. Unmei quickly launched an attack
"Moon breathing second form, Pearl Flower Moon gazing!" She unleashed three crescent-shaped slashes while releasing a multitude of crescent moon blades along with them. Kokushibo was stunned. His left hand was severed and dropped to the ground as he evaded the attack.. She had perfected it already..
The young woman gasped as she realized the love of her life was in danger and met his match. His arm quickly regenerated and he stared at Unmei and then the young woman.
"This mountain has not been inhabited for the past 30 years now. It's known for having ghosts and weird events. What you both saw was an illusion" Unmei finally before Kokushibo could attack them again.
Kokushibo's shoulders fell though he still seemed mad. He put back his sword.
"You have perfected the breathing style," Kokushibo said in a low voice. Unmei rested her sword and nodded.
Kokushibo walked over to the young woman who cried in pain as she held her shoulder.
"Akira... I'm sorry.. I.." he tried to apologize.
Akira looked away. She was heartbroken. She didn't expect her lover to put her in so much pain
"Let me see" Unmei said as knelt down beside Akira. Akira showed her, her shoulder and it had dislocated.
"Okay it's only dislocated. This is going to hurt but it will fix it" she said she had the shoulder. Akira nodded and Unmei quickly pushed the bone back into place which made the girl cry.
Kokushibo's eyes reflected hurt and regret.. He never meant to hurt Akira, not like this.
"I will have to give your arm some support so that it can heal properly..." Unmei glanced at Akira and searched for a cloth that would help. Kokushibo took off his purple kimono and gave it to Unmei.
"Use this"
"No. You can't give me your kimono..."Akira said.
Kokushibo knelt beside her and caressed her right cheek.
" I have hurt you enough.... Take it" he said in his voice of regret.
These two are really lovers. And what they have is strong Unmei thought to herself. That's why it hurts the girl so much.
Unmei grabbed the kimono and tore it enough to form a sling. Rips and tears echoed through the entire base of the mountain.
She gave Akira a look. Akira finally nodded and accepted the kimono. Unmei wrapped it around her shoulder and then supported it with the sling.
"Thank you" Akira said as she wiped her tears away and gave Unmei a low bow.
"How does your arm feel now?" Unmei asked as she looked at her.
"Much better, thank you." Akira replied, her gaze moved from Unmei to Kokushibo who looked down in shame and guilt.
"Why did you react like that..." She asked him.
Unmei sighed. She knew why he had reacted the way he did, especially when it involved the name Yoriichi. Which she found stupid considering Yoriichi had been dead for centuries. Were these two seeing ghosts now?
They must have drank something because wow that was one delusional encounter they seem to have had. She couldn't even make sense of what they had said. She knew that the broken down, abandoned temple up that mountain was haunted but boy she never knew it could even make people and demons alike delusional. Unmei was tempted to giggle at the thought but she had a feeling that these two would not appreciate it.
Kokushibo had talked to her about his betrayal and issues with his brother two years ago when they met again and he taught her moon breathing during his spare time. Seeing Yoriichi with the love of his life must have made him snap, but it did not justify killing her even if it was an illusion.
Question was, how the hell did this woman even see an illusion of Yoriichi. Wait, she's called him something different. Does that mean they'd talked? No wonder the old man was pissed - as dumb as it sounded.
"I'm not ready to tell you yet...but I swear I never meant to hurt you. I'm so sorry" Kokushibo said in a low voice.
He wasn't ready to tell Akira, at least not tonight.
Akira looked at her lover and simply reached out to her lover's cheek.
"When you are ready I'll be waiting," she said.
Kokushibo leaned into her touch and closed his eyes. He opened them again, stood up and began walking away. Unmei looked on as his silhouette disappeared into the night leaving her and the young woman.
"I'm Akira" the woman finally said.
Unmei helped her up from the ground and gave her a small nod.
"I'm Unmei" she introduced herself.
