Campfire.

“Out… now…” Pein said as he stopped the car and scratched his head. The other members followed diligently as he gets out of the van and opens the hood. Grey smoke came puffing out towards him. He fans it away and coughs, using his hat as a better fan. “Jashin, almighty!” he shouts as he tried to touch the engine which burned as hot as hell.

The members watched normally at Pein, thinking that he’s overdoing this van-breaking-down-thing. Behind us, the beautiful, sandy beach lay. There’s nothing to worry about, right?

“Never mind about that, Pein! We’re here anyway, un…” Deidara said as he got his bags from the open van as Pein looks at him furiously.

Pein didn’t say anything and that’s when the members took that as an excuse for freedom. That is, until you stepped beside to see what the damage the van is in. He huffed as he noticed you getting closer to him, inspecting the hood the same way he does.

“Psh… As if you know anything about cars…” he said, making you cross your arms.

“Jeez! I’m only trying to help, you know…” you replied back as you stomped away from him and towards the shore where the members are already setting up the usual get-up for a beach. “Yeah, you can work alone on your stinking van!” you regretted yourself for adding that last sentence. You did shout at your leader after all. To your surprise, he didn’t shout back at you or even looked at you furiously. He just went on with his work of self-inducting stress.

“Damn, _________... You did not just shout at Pein like that…” Konan said as she whispers to you, her right hand caving her mouth.

“Hey, that guy deserves to know how its like to get shouted at…” you said as you propped yourself down on the sand under the umbrella next to Konan. Other than being the only girl in the Akatsuki, Konan was your best friend. Besides, you two are both suck-ups for Pein… But now you broke your record with that one, single argument.

“You think he’s gonna let you off that easy?” Konan said as she leans her back on the beach bench.

“Yeah, I know… He’ll make my life miserable.” You replied as you buried your face in your hands.

It was almost nightfall and darkness is coming in fast. All you did for the rest of the afternoon was waste around, talking about how you’re going to make it up to Pein while Konan says that you should try to relax and have fun. She didn’t know that Pein is your fun.

The members tired their own bodies out, huffing and puffing as water dripped from their hair, shivering from the cold. Even without the water on your skin you could tell that it was freezing. Occasionally, a breeze passes by the members and that’s when you hear the sounds of teeth chattering.

Pein did nothing of the sort—which includes beach activities. He was still busy with the van. But the wind got him too and know the whole members looked like they are in for a meeting. Soon, Zetsu came with firewood. Everyone had relief on their faces. But they were relieved too soon.

“I… I can’t…” Itachi said as he tries his best not to let his towel fall.

“Come on, Uchiha!... As your leader… Do a fireball jutsu this instant!” Pein ordered, his hands can no longer control themselves as he rubs his shoulders.

Now, if this wasn’t the funniest thing you ever did see, then you bet that it won’t get any funnier than what Itachi’s about to do. He did the hand signs, alright. But every time he was about to blow, a breeze catches him by surprise and only small strips of fire come out of his lips for his teeth in always chattering open and close.

You swear you wanna laugh your heart now but the pain mostly limited your actions. Soon, Pein left Itachi alone, seem to be giving up. Now the last thing you ever want to see on Pein’s face, was the expression of surrender. You rose  from your spot to get the jumper cable from the van.

Everyone looked at you as you opened the hood of the van Pein so long stared. You attached one cable from the engine and the other to a piece of firewood. Soon, smoke began to emit from the firewood you were holding. The members murmured sounds of awe as you placed the smoking wood strategically under the pile. It wasn’t long before fire crept its way above the pile and everyone smiled at you.

Aside from the members’ smiles of gratitude, you noticed from the corner of your eye, Pein smirking, maybe as a sign of appreciation for the idea.

Minutes of calming warmth passed and the members were already breaking out into songs of merriment. Soon, they began passing around sticks and bags of marshmallows. Of course, who wouldn’t miss out on marshmallows when there’s a campfire in front of you.

“Alright, guys! How about we play… Dare or dare?!” Tobi exclaimed which got everyone excited.

“Isn’t that game called: Truth or Dare?” Sasori asked as he glared at the hyperactive Tobi.

“Yeah, but that game’s boring!”

“Ugh! They’re just the same, you just omitted Truth, that’s all!” Kakuzu butted in.

“Still, with Dare or Dare, you cannot escape the Dare and that’s what you all do instead of a boring Truth..”

You’ve got to hand it to him, he does have a point. You nodded your head in agreement and Tobi gave you a thumbs up. But that smile was wiped off your face when Tobi decided that you should play first. The members snickered at the irony.

OK, it was totally different than what you expected. Konan whispered something to Tobi and when it comes to Konan, she is the bearer of your secrets. This just got from awkward to worse. You tried to put one of your most meanest faces on but it was too late, Tobi had already accepted the challenge for you.

“Hehe… _________. I want you to do the first thing you’ve wanted to do when you first joined the Akatsuki….” Tobi said, snickering.

“Um… Which one…?” you asked, just to make sure.

Tobi turned to Konan, he seems confused.

“The one where it has something to do with Pein..” Konan answered which made you gulp. Everyone ‘oohed’ at that, not to mention Pein looked up at you as he heard his name.

“Come on, _______! It’s a dare!” Tobi said as he nudged you towards Pein then he turned back to Konan. “Uh,, what is she going to do exactly?” he whispered.

You could swear you can just break his mask or rip Konan’s hair out for that matter. But you can’t help it now, you’re already in front of him.

“F-Forgive me, Pein…” you said, biting your lip.

“For what?” he asked, confused.

“About that thing in the van—“

“No, I should be the one sorry for that matter..”

“And…” you hesitated.

“And?”

With that, you cupped his face and linked your lips with his. He was taken back by your action but soon gave into it. His piercings gave his lips a different texture and you were getting into it. You licked one particular piercing on the bottom of his lips and he got the message. Your tongue slipped in his mouth, only to find another single piercing on the middle of his tongue. God, how can he bear all that?

But, everyone knows people have to breath sometime and you pulled away. His hypnotic eyes stare back at you, panting. He tasted like roasted marshmallows and saltwater. It was intoxicating.

You went back to your seat, avoiding any contact from anyone anyhow. You buried your face in your hands yet again, knowing that you just did the most embarrassing thing you could’ve ever done.

“Come here, ___________” you heard Pein say. You shook your head, your face still hidden by your hands from shame. “_________, I ask again… Sit by me…”

Everyone was silent, though you thought they want to watch a little drama and romance every once in a while, especially when its happening right before their eyes.

“If you won’t come here, then I will..”

Then suddenly, you felt a gush of wind beside you. You finally looked up to see Pein smiling down at you. You felt your face burn and tried to look away but something about his smile made your heart melt.

“Are you really serious about that? Kissing me on the first time you saw me?” Pein asked as he leans down so that your eye levels are the same.

“Um…” you couldn’t say anything.

“Then I hope you want to spend the rest of the day with me in the van tomorrow….” He said as he winks at you before he leans in for another kiss. Something about his sentence made your spine shiver, or was it the cold? No, there wasn’t any wind at all. A day with him in the van or a day with him fixing the van? Although you’re too shy to change the sentence structure on that one.
