Thank you for referring this subject to me for psychological evaluation.

EARLY YEARS:

Itachi was born in Konohagakure to the misunderstood and feared Uchiha clan. He experienced oppression and distrust because of his clan from an early age and this made him aware of the clan and class divides in his Village.

As he grew older and began to take on missions outside of his Village, he began to see these divides in action and witnessed massacres and genocide in Kirigakure and Iwagakure. This instilled in him a strong sense of justice and a desire to see class and clan divides erased and the raising of societies to their peak potential.

He is an older sibling to a brother, Sasuke, and helped his Mother raise him. His Father was a present figure but emotionally distant and Itachi worked to earn his approval. He enrolled in the Academy at age 6 and excelled above and beyond his classmates, leading to many to label him a protege.

This label sat heavily on him and he began to slowly buckle under the pressure of trying to win his Father's approval, the injustice of his clan and wanting to help his Village become strong despite how he was treated within its walls.

He reports that he befriended a fellow clan member, Shisui, and this relationship became increasingly important to him as he grew older. Shisui seems to have had a calming effect on Itachi who is nervous and twitchy by nature but he is skilled at presenting the illusion that nothing fazes him.

He graduated the Academy early and endured the Chunin exams at a horrifically young age. When most kids were just learning the basics of shinobi skills, Itachi was being forced to kill to defend himself. He reports he killed his first man at age 6, during the Chunin exams, and this left a deep psychological scar on his psyche. Itachi understands he had to kill to survive and to advance his career but rationalizes his internal conflict of this by saying it was necessary to protect the Village.

The theme of protecting his Village and his friends, family and comrades is raised continuously by him. Writer wonders if it's Itachi's way of coping with the internal grief and anguish at having to make adult decisions at 6 years old and on.

At age 10 he was promoted to Jounin and increasingly took on more and more dangerous missions. He would go weeks without seeing his family and he admits that he missed Sasuke and Shisui during these periods. Shisui occasionally accompanied him on these missions and it's during this time period that Itachi was introduced to sexual experiences.

Writer is almost certain that Shisui was Itachi's first lover but Itachi is hesitant to discuss this topic. He assures writer that he was not raped or forced and that he entered the relationship of his own free will but regardless, the two kept the relationship a secret.

At age 13 he joined the ANBU. This is a blatant violation of the Child Soldiers Act which prohibits children younger than 16 from attaining and participating in adult ranks and missions. Konohagakure is currently under investigation, as are many other Villages, for their use of child soldiers to fight their wars.

Itachi is stoic in his denial of experiencing psychological trauma relating to his military service. When writer brought up the Uchiha Massacre, the subject's body language and tone became quietly aggressive and he made the suggestion that writer should tread carefully when broaching this subject.

Recently released documents pertaining to his massacre case have revealed that Itachi was threatened with Sasuke's death if he did not comply with the Hokage's orders to eliminate his clan. Itachi chose to preserve his brother over the sake of saving his clan and overthrowing the corrupt Hokage. This shows an incredibly strong loyalty to his direct bloodline and that he is not a killer at heart. Like any good soldier, he followed orders and he paid dearly for it.

Shisui was murdered by anti-Uchiha fanatic Danzo, and as a result, Itachi recounts that he "snapped" and that massacring his clan "felt right" in that moment. He expresses some regret and remorse but not enough to convince writer that he truly feels this. After the massacre he subsequently fled the Village and began living a rouge-nin lifestyle.

PRE-AKATSUKI:

Itachi was quietly active in the underground scene and sold his skills to the highest bidder. There are also rumours that he sold his body to the highest bidder but writer could not get him to confirm or deny this rumour. "Does it really matter?" was his only response to these questions.

He reports that he often snuck back to Konohagakure to check on his brother. Itachi has a lot of guilt for abandoning his brother, even if it was for idealistic purposes, and carries that heavily within himself. He blames himself for Sasuke's troubles and for his leaving the Village and linking up with Orochimaru. Itachi expressed that he wished he could undo time but it's doubtful he would have chosen a different path if he had to relive the decisions made with the information available at that time.

It was during this period that Itachi contracted an incurable form of tuberculosis and his physical prowess became affected, forcing him to rely more and more upon his clan's specialized ability: genjutsu. Genjutsu has been ruled a psychological warfare tactic and it's use has been outlawed since the Second Shinobi War.

He was approached by Obito Uchiha (who was operating under the alias of Madara Uchiha) and was an unknown clan member to Itachi (see Obito's report for further details) to join the Akatsuki and seeing no better alternative, Itachi joined.

AKATSUKI:

He was partnered with Kisame Hoshigaki and Itachi reports he felt "safe" for the first time in a long time. Kisame didn't require anything from Itachi aside his skills in battle and this gave Itachi time to heal some of the wounds the years had inflicted upon him.

Itachi does reveal that he began to develop romantic feelings for Kisame but he never acted on them, believing he was undeserving of love as a form of self punishment for his crimes.

He spied on the Akatsuki for Konohagakure, Itachi and the Village coming to a mutually beneficial agreement during his time with the organization, and in return he was assured of Sasuke's safety and that the Village was working to get him back.

He helped to capture and kill several Tailed Beasts as well as tried to kidnap Naruto Uzumaki, a minor child residing in Konohagakure. "It was necessary" he stated when confronted with his crimes, including the planned murder of a child.

Itachi remains stoic and disturbingly unflappable during this assessment. He refuses to show emotion or engage writer in deeper discussion regarding his past, preferring instead to just state the facts and move on to a different subject.

POST-CONVICTION:

Itachi is a model inmate. He attends his counselling sessions faithfully, is enrolled in higher education and has become a mentor for younger inmates. He currently works in the prison library and is fastidious in keeping himself, his cell and his workspace in order and neat.

When writer placed several items on the table (tape recorder, pens and a notepad) Itachi organized each item precisely and when writer disturbed this alignment, he was quick to correct it. This suggests he has obsessive compulsive behaviours and arranges objects and events into their own spaces as a way to self soothe.

DIAGNOSIS:

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Avoidant Personality Disorder
Depression
Anosognosia

FITNESS:

Subject is fit to stand trial. He understands his crimes and why the Nation is seeking the death penalty. His case is complex because of the psycho-social aspects of his crimes and his upbringing. Further forensic psychology is needed to make sense of all that has happened to this subject.
