Chapter 3: Kill the Training
POV: Y/n
Akame, Tatsumi, and I were in the kitchen cooking for everyone. "Damn it!" Tatsumi said, peeling an apple, "I'm an assassin, yet all I do day after day is cook!" "It cannot be helped." Akame answered, "I am responsible for cooking the bases meals. And naturally, that duty falls to you as well." "And I'm the one who hunts for the food." I said setting down a deer. "Akame," Tatsumi started, "Where exactly is the cooking? All I see you doing is 'sampling' the ingredients." "That is not true." Akame said eating an olive. "You suck at lying, you know." Tatsumi said. "For a newcomer, a cook's apron is best. It suits you well." Mine said walking up with Sheele, Lubbock and Bulat, pissing off Tatsumi at the same time. "Huh? Are you all going somewhere?" Tatsumi asked. "Yep" Mine answered as Bulat interrupted, "A request to kill someone in the Capital arrived." "A request." Tatsumi said, realizing he had only cooked since he got here. "Please take good care of the place while we are gone." Sheele said, shocking Tatsumi. "Akame, Y/n, and the new guy are housemaids!" Mine said pointing at Tatsumi, "So just stay here and chop cucumbers!" "Mine," I started, moving behind her, "if your ungrateful ass is able to kill a deer, without Pumpkin, bring it back to base, single handed, gut, skin and process it, please be my guest." "It's not that hard." Mine responded as I handed her my bow. "Then kill a deer." I said seeing her look at the bow, "Or a rabbit, squirrel, or any mammal rather." "I don't have the time for that!" Mine snarked. "Or Y/n's right." Lubbock added under his breath. After they left Akame let her hair down. "We going to kill some things?" I asked making sure my bow was fine. "Yes," Akame answered, "Shall we go take some lives?" "You're both talking about hunting for dinner, aren't you?" Tatsumi asked. "Oh good, you understand." Akame answered.
About half an hour later the three of us walked through the woods, nearing our destination. Tatsumi and Akame each had a large basket on their back, while I carried my bow and half a dozen arrows. "Hey." Tatsumi started, "it's nice to get away from base for a while, but is it okay for us to be this far out?" "There is no problem with us going into the mountains." Akame answered doing farther ahead. "Beside, I travel farther to hunt, I'll do that while you guys fish." I said as we reached our destination. "We've arrived." Akame said as we saw a beautiful scene. A nice, blue, calm lake, with a waterfall feeding from about 75 feet above. The trees surrounding the lake were fresh in bloom. "Wow, what a nice place." Tatsumi said. "I second that." I responded, "We must eliminate the underwater prey." Akame said, removing her clothes, that scared Tatsumi. "You can't mean naked...!?" Tatsumi said falling on the ground as I laughed my ass off. "These clothes allow the most underwater mobility..." Akame said, "The targets are large river tuna. That is the goal." "Y-you can't mean the exceedingly rare and dangerous fish that--" Tatsumi said as Akame jumped into the water, followed almost immediately by a fish explosion. After seeing all of the fish land in Akame's bucket, she came up for air. "Erase your presence and swim along the riverbed." Akame said, "When the prey comes close, you strike in that instant. You will need to give it everything you have. Can you handle it?" "BRING IT ON!!!" Tatsumi shouted, removing his shirt. "I'll leave you two alone." I said waving as I left to hunt.
Later that night at dinner, Najeda spoke to us about our success. "So," she started, "In the end, Tatsumi only caught two... For his first time, he did well." "He did ma'am," I added. "Y/n, didn't you return with a large haul?" Leone asked. "About three deer, two rabbits and a squirrel." I answered, "I got hungry." "But Tatsumi," Leone continued, "didn't you say 'bring it on' as you were undressing?" "Not good enough." Akame said. "Leone." Najeda asked, "Tell me about the request we received a few days ago." That caught Tatsumi's attention. "From what I was told," Leone started, "out targets are ogre of the Capitol Guards, and an oil merchant named Gamal. This is the payment for the job." "That person saved up this much money?" Tatsumi asked, seeing the money bag on the table. "I caught the scent of a venereal disease from her..." Leone said, sounding more aggressive and serious than normal, "So she must have been selling her body to earn all of that." "That's..." Tatsumi said, full of shock. "Did you check out her story?" Najeda asked. "They're guilty." Leone said, "I observed them for a time from the attic of the merchant's shop." "Okay." Najeda said letting out a huff of smoke. "Night Raid will accept this request. We will deliver divine punishment upon the heads of these heinous monsters, and send them to the hereafter."
"Taking out Gamal will be simple," Leone started, "But Ogre will be a formidable opponent. He is called 'the Demon'... because his skill with the sword makes him an object of terror to the criminals of the Capital." "Najeda, if I may interrupt." I started, "Allow Tatsumi here to take on Ogre, I think he would be very capable, and if needed, I can watch over him from the shadows." "That seems to be a good idea," Najeda said, "Tatsumi, are you ready?" "Yes!" Tatsumi said palming the table. "Just send us!" "It almost sounds like he wants to take him one alone huh." Leone said. "As you are now," Akame said, "You stand no chance..." "And that's why I will watch." I added before Tatsumi interrupted. "While we stand here debating," Tatsumi started, "there may be other innocent people being framed for crimes they didn't commit!! IF THAT'S THE CASE, I'LL HANDLE HIM MYSELF! The feeling of your most cherished person being cruelly taken away... I don't want anyone to have to experience that loss." "Understood..." Najeda said, "I can appreciate your decision. Go kill the Demon." "Well said Tatsumi!" Leone said patting him on the head, "it's good that you're so dedicated." "Leone, Akame," Najeda started, "I leave the oil merchant to you." "You got it boss." Leone said letting go of Tatsumi. "How about that, Akame!" Tatsumi said looking at her, "When it's time, I can step up!" "Where does this self confidence come from?" Akame asked, "You haven't had a successful mission until after you have given your first report. As you are now, so full of yourself, you'll just end up dead." "Wha-" Tatsumi said before I interrupted him. "We will return alive Akame." I said as we left for the Capital.
POV: Tatsumi
Y/n had gone ahead of me on Main Street while I was admiring it and getting directions from Leone. "If you go straight that way, it'll lead you straight to Main Street." Leone told me. "Got it." I answered. "You wanna hear a story about Akame?" Leone asked me, catching my attention. "When Akame was young," Leone started, "her and her sister were both bought somewhere in the Empire. Well, you know... poor parent selling their kids is a pretty common story. Anyways, her and another girl in the same situation entered assassination training together. There she learned how to kill people... she survived, in that hellish situation. And she worked under the orders of the Empire. She was the perfect assassin... but, each time she carried out her duty, she could feel more of the darkness within the Empire. The boss, who was her target at the time, succeeded in persuading her... to defect from the Empire. And join the Revolutionary Army that cared only about the people. By that time, it seems most of the comrades she had grown up and trained with were all dead. I heard that when they met she put up quite the fight against Y/n, he actually was going to use his sword when the boss stopped the fight. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?" "as an amateur," I started, "I should shut up and listen to the professional killers, right?" "Well..." Leone said, "You'll understand if you're successful today."
POV: Y/n
I was resting in an ally, waiting for Tatsumi to return with our target. "Can you tell me in this alleyway?" I heard a man speak I looked out and saw Tatsumi talking to a man missing his left eye. "Hey," The man said, "this place is fine, right?" "I beg of you!!" Tatsumi cried, jumping onto the ground in a begging fashion, "please allow me into the Capital Defense Force! I must earn enough money to send back to my home in the country, sir!" "Ha~~hhhh..." The man, who I assume is General Ogre, "I thought it would be something like this. Then apply through the normal process, idiot!" "But," Tatsumi started, reaching for his sword, "in these hard times, it's so very difficult to get in." "It's to be expected, isn't it?" Ogre started, reaching for his sword, "So, I take it you weren't strong enough to pass the entrance test?" Within the blink of an eye, Tatsumi dashed in and cut Ogre, taking him to the ground. "I did it," Tatsumi said looking to the sky, "That's right... I need to give my report..."
Just then Tatsumi blocked an attack from Ogre as I jumped in to help him. "You forgot." I said helping him up. "Finally, a competent opponent." Ogre said, looking at us, "Did you think... that I, Ogre the Demon... would really be killed by the likes of a snot nosed little shit like you...? The weak don't matter... only the strong matter in this city... I PASS JUDGMENT ON PEOPLE!! DO YOU THINK YOU CAN JUDGE ME!?!" Tatsumi then jumped into the air, bringing his sword down on Ogre, "Don't just say whatever you want...!" Ogre cried, blocking Tatsumi's attack and sending it back to the ground, "I see... you both belong to that Night Raid group, don't you?" "That's enough from you." I said breaking Ogres arms off as Tatumi jumped into the air and cut Ogre to pieces. "Thanks for the help." Tatsumi said sheathing his sword. "Let's get home for now," I said, "You are too sure of yourself, you need to ensure your prey is dead."
When we returned to base Tatsumi gave his report. "Good job on dealing with the target!" Najeda said, "Excellent!" "Thanks!" Tatsumi said, confident of his victory, "Not so bad, huh Akame, I've done my job and given my report. And I accomplished it somehow without getting hurt." At that point, Akame started walking towards him and removing his clothes looking for wounds. "What the hell are you doing!?" Tatsumi cried as Akame held his arms above his head. "Y/n," Akame started, "No need," I said walking up to Tatsumi and resting my hand on his shoulder, "she's looking for wounds, this may help as well. Gedokujutsu [Antidote technique]" "NOOOOOOO!!" Tatsumi cried as the last of his clothes were removed. "Thank goodness." Akame said seeing that Tatsumi didn't have any wounds on him, "I've seen friends die from poison because they wanted to be tough and not report the wound. But you seem to be undamaged. The mortality rate for those on their first mission is high... you did very well!" As Akame said that she took Tatsumi's hand. "Th... thanks." Tatsumi stumbled.
"Akame was hoping you would live," Leone started, "she would have been lonely without you." "And this is her first time 'teaching' a new recruit," I added, "so she didn't want to fail you." "You know," Najeda started "you learn to communicate with your comrades while cooking. You learn how to kill through a difficult hunt... did you notice that everything you did in those days was beneficial to you?" "R-really?" Tatsumi asked, "Sorry, Akame... I misunderstood." "It's all right." Akame said, "from here on, please continue coming back alive... Tatsumi." "Sure." Tatsumi responded, "Please take care of me, Akame!" "I wonder what his intentions are saying that while almost naked." Leone laughed. "Okay," Najeda said rubbing her chin, "Next, you'll working under Mine, so do your best." "Sorry Tatsumi," I said, "Straight out of the oil and into the fire." "I..." Tatsumi started, "I have to work with her!?" "Sorry," I stated, "I have a personal matter to deal with. So I'll be out for a few days." "Doing what exactly?" Leone asked, "Finding a King," I said clenching my fist, "and kill him." "I will allow this." Najeda said as Tatsumi spoke up. "By the way Y/n," He asked, "Who is stronger, you or Akame, in terms of killing ability that is." "Well, either way," I started, "we kill in a single hit. So that is a question of speed."
