Chapter 9: Killing the Void

POV: Y/n (Kakoshi)

When we got back to base I had to debrief the boss on the information. “So Y/n,” the boss started, “this extra team, ‘Day Shield’ as it is called in the papers, appears to be made to hunt us down, but what is this about Jaegers?” “I’m not sure ma’am,” I started, “it could be a name thing, a Jaeger is a type of huntsman, an' it's also a type of bird known to ‘bully’ the weak, so they likely are meant to hunt us down.” “You said that there was a teigu user in your village right?” the boss asked, “Yes ma’am,” I responded, “Stiker, his teigu was Elemental Heart, it’s a blood type, and allows him to control every element, based on his emotion, I almost always saw a ‘int a fire in his eyes, and when there wasn’t he was healing our injured.” “Do you think he would be willing to help our cause?” the boss asked, “Maybe,” I responded, “I’ll have ta’ find ‘im, I pray he’ll ‘elp us.” “Take Sheele with you and go find him.” the boss said, “ma’am I have to ask,” I started, “Why Sheele, isn’t she still too injured to take, I doubt Stiker would help a stranger.” “Even still, it’d be best to try.” the boss said. “Yes ma’am.”

I then walked to the kitchen to grab some food since I had no idea where Stiker was. After gathering the food, I went to find Sheele, who just happened to tending Sleipnir, “Hey dear.” I said hugging her. “Hello dear,” she replied resting her head on mine, “By the way, why did you name your horse Sleipnir?” “Well dear,” I started, “it’s a famous horse known to have eight legs, and it could get anywhere in an instant. So when I realized how fast she was, t’was the perfc’t name.” As I said that I grabbed Sleipnir’s saddle and set it up. “Where are you going dear?” Sheele asked, “Dear,” I started, “We are going to find a new recruit, he’s a healer, an’ ‘eres a chance he can ‘elp ya.” “Who are we looking for?” Sheele asked as I helped her on Sleipnir, “We’re lookin’ fer an old friend of mine,” I said, “ ya ‘member me talkin’ bout Stiker right?” “Somewhat, is that who we’re after?” “Yep.” I replied jumping onto Sleipnir as a snowstorm started, “Sheele, take my jacket, it’s gonna get cold, real quick, ya ‘ear.” “O-o-okay-y-y,” Sheele replied taking my coat and placing it on her, “ Ahhhhh. Much warmer.”

After a few moments of travel, we got to where my old village was. “We’re ‘ere.” I said jumping off Sleipnir into the fresh, pure white snow. “So this was your village dear?” Sheele asked as I helped her down, “Yea,” I said walking through the area, “Here was my, I mean Y/n’s house.” I said looking at a worn down hut with the roof falling in, “I just stayed here as Y/n’s teigu.” I then walked in when I had another relapse.

“Hey kids,” Y/n said, “I’ve gotten a new pardner, meet Kakoshi.” “Hello mr. Kakoshi.” the children said in unison. “Hello children,” I responded, “I am Kakoshi, the mimic teigu.” “Daddy,” the boy said, “what’s a teigu?” “That’s sumthin y’all’ll learn ‘bout when yer older.” Y/n responded “But mr. L/n,” I started, “Now Kakoshi,” Y/n responded, “Yer my pardner, and ya can call me Y/n.” “Y/n,” I responded, “shouldn’t the children learn about the teigu now rather than later, it could be useful information.” “I don’t think they’re ready fer the inf’rmation just yet.” Y/n replied, “I’ll tell’em on their birthday.”

“Gaah!” I shouted leaving the relapse. “Dear, are you alright?” Sheele said, “Yea,” I responded, “I’ll be fine, lets get ta findin’ Stiker.” we then walked around for a while until I found Stiker’s house. “Lookie ‘ere.” I said looking at a crudely repaired hut, “this looks like Stiker’s place, but it’s vacant, he appears to be out, judging by the footprints heading into the woods.” “Who the hell are you?!” I heard, “Stiker.” I replied standing up, “It’s me Kakoshi.” “Then where the hell is Y/n, he’s your master right?” Stiker replied with his fist in a ball of fire, “Y/n fused with me,” I responded, “we were chasing the man who killed everyone, he got the jump on us and attempted to execute the both of us, but ‘e failed ta do so. I was shot in the temporal lobe so I had temporary mem’ry loss, and when I awoke, I had gained Y/n’s mem’ries.” “So what do you want me for?” Stiker asked, “It can’t be just to recollect on old times.” “We need yer ‘elp.” I responded, grabbing Sheele’s hand. “It can’t be just you and that … woman.” Stiker said looking at Sheele. “The Revolutionary Army needs your help.” Sheele said. “Why the hell would I help the Revolution, the Empire is doing just fine!” Stiker said as the fire in his hand burned even brighter. “Stiker,” I said, “The Empire provided protection for the asshole who killed yer fam’ly.” “WHAT!?!” Stiker said, “The Empire gave the fam’ly that slaughtered our village guards to keep them safe in the Capital.” “Head inside,” Stiker said, “The storms getting worse.”

We then went inside of Stiker’s home, where I explained what happened since Y/n and I left the village. “So you found him, using a facade as a rich home owner to keep under the radar, yet his family tortured the homeless in the capitol.” Stiker said as I nodded my head, “And then you met your girlfriend here as a separate faction under the Revolutionary Army. What faction is that, might I ask.” “Night Raid.” Sheele answered as Stiker got a face of shock. “REALLY KAKOSHI, OR Y/N WHOEVER THE FUCK YOU ARE?!?!?!” Stiker yelled, “Why would you join a group of assassins?!” “I had no other choice, everyone in the village was killed, I had no one to return to, I thought I was Y/n and his family was killed.” I replied, “You figure I could help them and make the world a better place.” “Then I cannot help you, you have become what you swore to hunt.” Stiker said kicking us out of the house into the snow. “What do we do now dear?” Sheele asked holding her wound from the excitement, “I’ma ask ‘im to teach me how to heal you.” I said walking back to the house and knocking on the remainders of the door. “Stiker I know you won’t ‘elp our cause, but please ‘elp an ol’ friend.” “What the hell would an assassin want from a citizen.” Stiker asked from behind the closed door, “My girlfriend Sheele, is injured,” I said, “an’ yer the best damn medic I know.” “Why would I heal an assassin?” Stiker asked opening the door. “Because she was the one supposed to kill the man responsible for slaughtering our village.” I said. “If you can mimic teigu, then you can do it yourself.” Stiker said, glowing green and placing his hand on my shoulder, “Feel the Earth beneath you, and that will give you healing properties.” “I tried that, and it barely worked.” I responded getting up “What were you thinking at the time?” Stiker asked, “I was thinkin’ ’bout revenge my mind was clouded by anger.” I responded, “That’s why it didn’t work you dumbass,” Stiker said, “Your emotions are key to controlling Elemental Heart. Try it on her now.” I then tried it on Sheele and it worked, “Thank’s Stiker.” I said, “Ya sure ya don’t want ta come help us?” “No, I still won’t be an assassin, I’ll help heal the injured when the time comes, but I won’t take up arms.” Stiker replied seeing us off. “See ya ‘round, my ol’ friend.” I said leaving with Sheele on Sleipnir.

A few moments later, I felt myself get heavy, and I turned around to see if Sheele was alright, and I saw a bright orange flame coming from my village. “Sheele hold on, we’re turnin’ ‘round.” I shouted turning Sleipnir around heading back towards the village. Hold on Stiker, we’re on our way. I thought running that way. When we got there I saw two men, Sheele and I then jumped off Sleipnir, but when we landed, gravity seemed to increase ten fold. “Sheele are ya alright?” I asked struggling to stand up. I got no response, I then noticed Sheele on the ground, conscious and trying to get up but failing. “Sorry inquisitor.” I heard a voice say, “She won’t be getting up for a while, time’s a strange thing, it’s a miracle that you’re able to get on your feet.” Just then the source of the voice became clear, it came from a cloaked figure, near one other, each wearing a mask so their face wasn’t visible. “W-w-who are y-y-ya?” I struggled to ask. “Well my friend,” the shorter masked man said, “you’d like to know, but now’s not the time.” As the man said that, he pushed me onto the ground, “Chronos, I think we should leave.” said the taller man said. “Sure thing, Rocca” the shorter man said, placing an arm on the other cloaked figured, “see you around cowboy.” As he said that, they disappeared as the snow kicked up where they stood.

“Sheele ya’lright?” I asked helping her up, “Yes, I’m fine.” She responded, “We should check on Stiker.” As she said that we ran towards Stiker’s house, where I saw him lying on the ground, “STIKER!!!” I shouted sliding next to him, “Are ya’lright.” “No, I’m fuckin’ bleeding out.” Stiker said attempting to heal himself, “I guess this is my end.” “No it ain’t Stiker,” I started, “I can help ya.” As I said that I tried to heal him, but it failed. “Kakoshi, Y/n, whichever one you are,” Stiker started, “I am dying, there is no point in trying to revive me. I’ve lived a long life, and I am ready for it to come to an end.” As he said that I felt the life drain from his body. “I’m sorry Y/n,” Sheele started. “Let’s head back after we bury ‘im with his fam’ly.” I said picking up Stiker and carrying him towards his family’s grave
