Chapter 25: Kill the Adjustments
POV: Y/n (Kakoshi)
We arrived at a point 15 kilometers northeast of the Capital via Air Manta. “So this’ll be our new base.” I said looking at the building the mountain. “You know,” Tatsumi started, “it really doesn’t feel like a new hideout.” “When you keep escape options and base of discovery in mind,” Akame started, “it naturally ends up similar to the old one.” “It’s nice that we have a hot spring again.” Mine said cheerfully. “After we’re done, let’s have some drinks there.” Leone said. “Sounds good.” Chelsea agreed, as Tatsumi held his hair, obviously stressed. “Is something wrong Tatsumi?” Tsukushi asked.
“Najeda,” Lubbock said running in, I’ve finished laying down a barrier around the base.” “Good.” Boss responded as Susanoo returned with a shovel. “I’ve also finished digging a hole for emergency escape.” Susanoo said. “Oh,” Boss said, somewhat startled, “That was fast. As expected of you Susanoo. With this, our base is fully operational.” I could see Lubbock get i Susanoo’s face. “DON’T THINK YOU’VE WON WITH THIS!” Lubbock shouted. “What are you talking about?” Susanoo asked. “Lubba,” I said walking over and patting his back, “Can it, yer soundin’ like a spoiled kid.” “So this will be our new home.” Sheele said hugging me. “Yeah,” I said embracing her, “best get used to it.”
Well all gathered in the debriefing room to get our new mission. “Now that we’ve returned, without delay,” Boss started, smoking a cigarette, “The targets this time are the aforementioned new species of Danger Beast. There have been many cases of them mobilizing in groups, and despite it being rudimentary, they display signs of intelligence. Individually they have strong physical ability, and even martial arts masters have challenged them to test their abilities and lost. Even now they lurk in mines and woods to the south of the Capital. They greedily feed upon people and livestock. The Jagers and Imperial Army exterminate them daily, but it seems they’re numerous and there are still many left.” “If the Empire’s having difficulty with them,” Mine started, holding her chin, “then it doesn’t seem to be a trap.” “If I may intrude,” Green started, pushing up his glasses, “these danger beasts have been manufactured, however, we were under the assumption that Night Raid was responsible.”
“You might call it helping the Empire,” Boss started, setting down her cigarette, “but… that’s fine, right?” “Of course!” Tatsumi said, pumping his fist in the air, “It’s just circumstantial this time!” “As far as we’ve heard,” Akame started, “they need to be promptly exterminated.” “I would like a better look at the insides of one of these danger beasts.” Green said looking at me. “I’ll help ya with that.” I responded. “I wouldn’t want to run into any soldiers thought.” Leone said as the boss looked at her. “We are Night Raid.” Boss said, “We can just move at night, when the Empire is resting.” “Hmmm,” Chelsea said leaning on the door, “we’re going to go beast hunting, accepting such a risk… it’s fine if we leave it to the Jagers. Like I said, you’re all soft.” “We understand what you want to say.” Tatsumi started, catching Chelsea off guard. “...But even now, these guys might be attacking someone. We might be killers, but we’re allies of the people. Even if it’s to save one more person, we want to speed up the extermination!” “Well,” Chelsea said shrugging, “I thought you would say that. I get it, I get it.” “Ta…” Susanoo started, “Tatsumi, I have something I need to tell you.” “Suu?” Tatsumi asked. “The zipper on your pants is undone.” Susanoo started intently, “It bothers me, so close it.” “AH!” Tatsumi cried, zipping up his pants. “AFTER BEING ABLE TO NAIL THAT SPEECH,” Leone started, “HOW UNCOOL!!” “I have to agree,” Green started, “that was a good speech. Very inspirational.” “HEY, HEY,” Lubbock started, “HOW DO YOU FEEL? HOW DO YOU FEEL?” “That’s what you get for trying to be cool!” Mine said looking away. Tsukushi just giggled. “SH… SHUT UP!!!” Tatsumi cried covering his groin.
“I’m sorry, Tatsumi…” Akame started, “I had noticed, but I thought it was a fashion statement or something.” “I’M NOT THAT MUCH OF AN OPEN AND LIBERAL PERSON, ALRIGHT!?” Tatsumi screamed. “I noticed it s’well,” I started, “But it’s weird when a guy tells another guy mentions it.” Akame then squatted down and spoke. “From now on,” she started, “I’ll pay attention and look every now and then.” “NO…” Tatsumi started, “DON’T DO THAT!!” I walked over towards the boss, talking to Green, Tsukushi and Chelsea. “A merry band’a youngin’s ain’t they.” I said looking at the group laugh. “Y/n has a point.” Boss started, “This is what we’re like. It’ll troublesome for you Chelsea, but I don’t know about you Green, Tsukushi, I feel like you will fit in fine.” “That’s fine,” Chelsea started, “But… I’m worried. Like how I read in the records, How Sheele almost died, and how Bulat actually died… I feel like that kindness is someday going to take the lives of Tatsumi and the others…” “I understand your fears,” Green started, “But the Elite Seven followed orders blindly, I enjoy seeing a group able to eliminate stress with each other.”
A few hours later, Green, Tatsumi, Lubbock and I were walking up a mountain for training. “Man, why do I get paired up with the guys?” Lubbock asked “You don’t have to act so obviously crestfallen, you know.” Tatsumi said. “Ya really are actin’ like a spoiled brat.” I added. “You remind me alot of an old team mate of mine.” Green stated. “There aren’t any soldiers camping here, right?” Lubbock asked. “We have information saying it that they withdraw during night if they’re close to the Capitol, remember.” Tatsumi said as we walked further up the mountain. “Don’t freak out so much Lubbock.” Green said as I started sensing something coming from a ways away. “You know,” Lubbock started, “timidity is something indispensable for us killers to survive. Even Ms. Najeda said that. Remember that, all right?” “Speakin’a that,” I started, trying to ignore the slowly approaching energy, “ya only call the boss Ms. Najeda, why is that?” When I said that, Lubbock started blushing. “Well,” Lubbock started, “We... well you see, her and I… we’ve known each other since the Imperial Army days. … I was the fourth son of a big merchant in the region. Well, I never was deprived of objects since I was a kid. I could do anything skillfully, and I was bored of the world.” “You kinda piss me off.” Tatsumi said. “I WAS RIGHT!” I started, “YA WERE A SPOILED BRAT!” “It’s a tearjerker from here so listen!” Luccock cried. “During that time, Ms. Najeda moved to the region where I lived. It was love at first sight. So then I volunteered as a soldier, using my own skillfulness, I climbed to a position where I could serve at her side.” “So the reason you’re in Night Raid is…” Tatsumi said as Lubbock interrupted him. “Because of my love for her… I guess…?” Lubbock said, stroking his hair, “when we escaped the Empire I wrote us both as dead in the records. I’m gallant aren’t I… but I haven’t been rewarded. It’s so saddening… a real tearjerker, right?”
“Lubba.” Tatsumi said, placing his hand on Lubbock’s shoulder, “THEN FIRST OFF, DON’T TRY TO PEEK AT OTHER WOMEN WHEN THEY BATHE!!” “HUH!?” Lubbock cried, “There’s a difference in desires between having a girl you like and wanting to watch a cute girl, isn’t there!?” “Yeah there is!” I cried throwing a bullet towards that thing I was aware of, “It’s called fidelity Lubbock.” “I have to agree with Y/n, Lubbock.” Green started. “You are starting to act like an old teammate of mine.” “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ALL SAYING!?” Lubbock said, mad at all of us. “It’s because you think that way that you’re unrewarded!” Tatsumi shouted.
We then heard a loud roar. “Did you guys hear that?” Green asked. “I felt that.” I answered, “Tats, let’s head up top real fast an’ see what it is.” “Let’s go!” Tatsumi said activating Incursio. “Mimic; Incursio!” I cried jumping up, having my Incursio armor appear around me. When we reached the top I looked around, and I saw a danger beast in the distance. “I guess it was nothing.” Tatsumi said deactivating Incursio, “How do you think the others are doing?” “That ain’t ‘portant right now. Mimic; Spectator” I said activating Spectator’s abilities. I looked towards the danger beast, seeing a female on top. “Aw come on! Play ‘long!” I cried going invisible. “Y/n!” Tatsumi said as he saw me disappear, “Who did you see?”
I didn’t answer because I saw Esdeath land behind Tatsumi. “I’m your opponent…” Esdeath said pointing her rapier at him, “I’ll tryout some new torture techniques on… huh… ta… Tatsumi…?” Welp, I thought to myself seeing humanoid, reptilian like danger beast creep up into the area, this fuckin’ sucks, I’ll hafta break my cover! Mimic; Cross Tails! I then ran out and cut a few of the danger beasts making my way towards Esdeath when I started to feel heavy. When I felt that I ran a string down to Lubbock and Green, giving them a warning of Esdeath. “Don’t hinder me…” Esdeath said stomping the brains of a danger beast in. “So it wasn’t a dream… I’ve been looking forward to the day when we could meet again, Tatsumi.”
POV: Lubbock
Green and I were waiting for Tatsumi and Y/n to return when I felt someone tug my strings. “An intruders coming from the base of the mountain!” I told Green as he looked at a rock, “How many?” he asked not changing his gaze. “One person,” I started, looking at my dial, “But what’s up with the speed, it’s unnatural!” “I don’t know,” Green said looking at me, the moon’s light glaring off his glasses, “but General Esdeath is up there! We should help them!”
“We’ll help them in a moment,” I said grabbing Green and hiding in a tree, “whoever that guy is, he’s too fast, he’s gone halfway up this mountain in only a few minutes, I don’t know who it is, and I don’t want to stick around and run into him, not with the two of us, besides, Tatsumi and Y/n don’t seem to be coming down any time soon, so we’ll hide and let him pass.” “This is getting suspicious.” Green said quietly, “I’ll get word up to Y/n.”
POV: Y/n (Kakoshi)
Great we got more comp’ny, I thought, feeling tugs come from the string I had placed, Mimic; Gaia Foundation! I’ll do this in case Esdeath thinks somethin’s up. I thought I felt an extra teigu coming up the mountain, Demon Extract is too unruly fer me to pick up other teigu well. At that point, I started feeling even heavier, but I managed to listen in on their conversation. “How dare you run away,” Esdeath started, pulling Tatsumi to her, “I was lonely, it’s undoubtedly Tatsumi’s scent. You’re the real thing.” “Wh… why are you here!?” Tatsumi asked. “I’m exterminating the Danger Beasts that have been terrorizing the Capital area.” Esdeath said in a calm tone, “A night patrol. You too, Tatsumi, why are you here?” This caught Tatsumi off guard. Shit! I thought, Tatsumi what’re ya gonna do? I dunno if I can help ya. “Um…” Tatsumi started, “Before that, can you do something about this position?” “No.” Esdeath said bluntly. “It’s like I can’t stay composed when you are this close.” Tatsumi explained. “I won’t let you run away again.” Esdeath said. “It-” Tatsumi said breaking free of Esdeath’s grip and taking his sword off, “IT’S TO TEST MY ABILITY!! BECAUSE I HEARD THAT THERE WERE DANGER BEASTS AROUND HERE.” Good call Tats. I thought, smirking under my helmet, Aniki’d be proud of ya. “So…” Esdeath started, “did you get into the Revolutionary army?”
“Not yet,” Tatsumi answered as I saw a guy enter onto the top of the mountain, “but I’m not going to change my mind! I’m currently training myself as a warrior for that goal.” “I see…” Esdeath said patting Tatumi on the head, “you’ve clearly leveled up, with your physique becoming more prominent. You’ve tried hard in this amount of time! You can still rise even further.” “Well…” Tatsumi said rubbing the back of his neck. “I’ve more or less cleaned up all of the danger beasts here. They were annoying, but…” Esdeath said nuzzling her face on his, “I was able to meet you thanks to them. I don’t understand how fate works.” I then decided to fight the stranger who appeared off the side of the mountain.
I was able to knock him to the ground, out from his hiding place, right into the view of Esdeath and Tatsumi. “I thought I was pretty well hidden,” the stranger said standing up and taking off his hood, revealing his tan skin, green eyes, white hair, and a scar across his face in the shape of an x, “but I had no clue you were even here, I expected Esdeath to sense me, but it seems she was preoccupied.” “I am, however…” Esdeath said pointing her rapier at the two of us, “Aware that there are two more of you!” “Huh?” Tatsumi asked as two cloaked figures walked up. “I guess our cover has been blown.” the shorter of the two said. “Wait, I know you two!” I said recognizing the duo. “Aren’t you two Chronos and Rocca?” “It seems this one can pay attention.” the taller man started, “I am Rocca.” “And I am Chronos.” “Well,” the scared stranger said, pulling something from his pocket, “this is a special occasion, I’ll have you all clean up some big toys!”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk,” Chronos said placing the hands of the scared man behind his own back, “we can’t have anything go ary.” “H- how!?” the scared man asked, “I never saw you move!” “A gentleman doesn’t kiss and tell.” Chronos said as Esdeath charged at him. Just then Rocca snapped and Esdeath fell to the ground. “Sorry lady.” Rocca said stepping past her, “But we aren’t here to fight, well, we don’t want to fight you.” “Th- then w- who?” Esdeath asked trying to get up and failing. “We’re after the knight.” Chronos said darting to my back and doing the same to me as he did to the scared man, “Now if you would be so kind General Esdeath, Tatsumi, do not try to follow us, we will return the knight later.” Rocca walked over to Chronos, who was still holding my hands behind my back, placed his hand on Chronos and suddenly, the world seemed to stop moving and I blacked out as Rocca hit me in the back of the neck.
POV: WRITER
Ok, I'm reusing that song later, maybe as part of a big battle of some point, I was actually thinking of that song when I found it.
