Chapter 2
It has been two weeks and I am still stuck in this stupid wasteland they call 'the north' I thought that it would be pretty like the mainland's giant city, but no, it was depressing, stupid, and a wasteland.
Currently Esdeath was in a small building behind me going over plans of attack, using words that I didn't understand. Thought I heard that fire was used, as well as something with siege and spell in the same phrase, and when she said 'companion' I peeled up and looked through the window at her with an eye. Their windows are such tiny things, from my old home world to my new home world, it wasn't changed one bit.
She looked at me with amusement in her eyes and then looked back at the others, and continued to blabber nonsense. I eventually got bored of sitting there and so I stood up silently, opened my wings, and shot into the air. Looking East, West, and South Art the death that we've caused so far. I continued to look around when I saw a small band of humans jogging towards us.
I linked with Esdeath and showed her through my vision and listened to her emotions, that's the way we communicated with each other, since I couldn't speak to them in a way they'd understand. I just used images, emotions, feelings, and drives. Right now they were trying to jog through a snow-storm and the link displayed curiosity so I flew closer.
Once I was about a mile from them, and much higher I searched for weapons, or other sign's that I should should kill them to protect my companion, but they were just holding a stupid white flag attacked to a stick. I could feel amusement through the link, what did it mean. I didn't understand, but then a Red highlight covered all of them. Oh I forgot to mention colors, I use colors to show important things like weapons are yellow or blue depending on hours dangerous I think that they are, and armor is usually purple. Don't know why but that's the color that she showed me to color it whole we were practicing to understand each other. Mainly last week, but she planned on doing it a couple days from now. She told me that.
But red is pretty obvious, either it's red, which just means kill them, or it's black which just means batter them up a little and bring them back, or it's a little of both, which means just play with them. Make them fear the unknown, let them see me for a second while I injure them severely, and then kill them however I see fit.
I whined, one of them was black, the one with the white and brown stick thing, and the others were red. I guess I don't get to have fun today, but I obeyed anyways and landed in-front of the four of them. Making them stop and look at me in shock and fear for a second before accepting their fate and kneeling in front of me. I cocked my head at this strange behavior, was it cruel to kill creatures that couldn't defend themselves. I mean I killed cows a lot but at least they gave a little fight when they were about to die.
I found out that an effective way of killing humans was to stab them through, take off their head, knock them into something really, really hard, or lightly hit them on the head with something, mainly my tail, and then bring them back. I hit the flag carrying one on the head and then, with a quick swipe of my paw, beheaded the other three before they even thought about looking up, or over. I grabbed their friend while their bodies were still kneeling there contemplating when they wanted to fall apart, and as soon as my wings pushed me into the air, with the other creature hanging head down in my claws. The others decided that then was the time to fall apart, their body bodies split into three different sections, since my paw was bigger than they were I usually could only use my bottom claws to cut through them.
That was unless I shrunk my size, but I didn't really care about that unless I was sneaking around something or killing in a small area, usually when the enemies were sleeping and Esdeath knew that they would have no chance of taking care of them without waking them up and having to fight them, so I was sent in. It was usually quick work and I've only had a handful of times where the person I was about to cut open with my claws or tail woke up, and I had to cut their head off before they raised some sort of alarm, or yelled. That rule applied to both my old world and my, now more than likely permanent, new home world.
I flew over our camp and then to the small pits that they made the captured dog up and dropped him in it, but not before whacking one leg with my tail with a little more force than I used to knock the human out with, and of coarse the crack told me the job was done correctly and I heard them scream in pain. And then they were in the pit again, and unconscious due to being dropped on tier head... or the pain. I never really knew.
I landed and drew in my wings so they were flat against my back once again, and then I turned and walked off, flicking the lid to the pit holding the human in the process. Then I walked over to where Esdeath and the others were and I lay down in-front of the entrance and wrapped myself around the building. The front door opened and I looked over to see Esdeath standing there in the doorway, but I just sat there, even as she looked for a way around, and then she eventually saw that the only way away from me was up she put a foot on my foreleg and stepped up into my back where she was in the position that I wanted her in.
I stood up in a split second and shot into the air with her on my back, it happened too fast for her to try and jump off, or scream, so instead she just growled at me. We flew in silence mainly just listening to each others hearts and emotions through our link, now I only felt pure joy and exhilaration in the link but I knew that she'd never say that out loud. So I just enjoyed them flowing through the link while I flew around for a short while. We both needed the short break and I could feel her start to relax on my back after a little while.
I decided to head west where I saw the small bunch of people following us. It took a while but eventually Esdeath realized what I was doing at the moment, raised her awareness, and began to look around with me. Eventually she pointed a little south at a small encampment, and I looked back to where we had flown from and judged that it would take at least a week to march here with a small army of men, so I just highlighted the encampment in Orange. The indifferent color, and shared my vision with her, she seemed to think about it before turning it clear, with a slight red outline around it.
Meaning we were just going to act as surveillance for the moment and if there seemed to be anything that was worrying to our case then we would terminate them and head back to camp so that she could 'interrogate' and then kill the man we had captured. I usually heard the screams of the prisoners that she 'interrogated' and most of them seemed useless, but Esdeath still tried to get something out of them, or she was just trying to just keep them there for long as she possibly could.
I would usually just interrupt and blast ice, fire, or shoot a bolt of lightning at them when I thought that it had been long enough and spoil her fun, but whatever. She couldn't do anything about it besides sulk, avoid me, or move to a different location of which either was soundless, or windowless, but those where hard to find here in the North and when they were found they were usually already having been used for something, or they were both soundless and windowless, along with really dry, and stinky. So Esdeath usually abandoned them around three 'interrogation' processes later.
I landed just outside of the villages perimeter and thanked the weather for its making of our presence. While I shared my vision with Esdeath since her human vision was crappy and unreliable for these kinds of operations, so we both looked around the village. She usually lightly kicked me if she wanted to look at something longer or wanted me to move back to something that she'd seem before, and then brushed my side when she was done or wanted to move on.
I sat there in the three foot deep snow for a good hour while we looked around, eventually walking around the village to get different angles, or going into the air tour a short while to see through center windows or areas that I missed. Then once looking at the center tent for a while and seeing no one come out, I felt her trap me once and then twice. She wanted to go, but I think they were waiting for us to outrage. So I did something that I haven't showed her before.
I switched my vision scale to outline heat signatures, I usually used it when I searched for food, but now was an exception and it was a good one too. In the houses there was nothing there, not even one of those small creatures that liked to prick at my ears while I slept before I turned them to ash. I'm fact the only thing there was a single ring of glowing heat coming from the center village. And Esdeath didn't need to give me the signal to move in as I was already making my way down.
My paws had barely touched the inside of the village before Esdeath had dismounted and stalked into the center tent, and I saw her try to touch the glowing ring with my vision. But she pulled her hand back in pain and surprise, so I grabbed the center of the tent and ripped apart the entire thing apart so that I could get a clear look.
What I saw was something that I didn't think was possible, it was a dragon enchantment, one of those rare items that other humans had, I noticed two things about it. It was calling to me to slip it over my head so it could bind with me, and it also looked like a collar that had risen from the icy depths below. From an ancestor of mine that had worn it before but collapsed of old age and turned itself into ice and snow to harden in a crystal casing around it keeping the collar where it was as the dragon faded away.
The humans must've realized what it was and fled as soon as they realized what it might attract, and I had to give their instincts credit for that. I stood it up with a paw and then slipped my head through the gap, big enough to fit an ancient ten thousand year old dragon near the end of its life. And it easily slid past my head and latched to the base of my neck as soon as it felt a binding partner, and then it shrunk to accommodate for my two thousand five hundred and fifteen year old body.
I felt it burn intensely as it burned itself into my neck, to bind with my blood and flesh. So that it could grow as I did and stay with me until someone either ended my life and cut off my head to get it, or until I collapsed like the last one to wear it had. I only knew about my species' part on this planet because my instincts me about everything once realizing that this was more than likely going to be my home for the rest of my long, long life.
Once it was done I looked at Esdeath to see her looking at me with a mix of shock, and slight fear? I didn't know what she was capable of caring about others. I wondered if she had found something like love interesting at all yet.
I lowered to the ground so that she could step up into my back off of my forelegs. She stared at the collar for a little while longer before breaking herself out of her trance and jumping onto my back. She was getting pretty good at getting onto me now. Then again we were going on 'rides' more often, meaning whether it was her choice or not I dragged her into the sky with me every so often. Ones like this trip, where I usually forced her to ride on me because we both needed a break, but this one was different because it turned from a free ride period into a scouting trip.
I spit into the air with her gripping the back of the collar around, and partially inside of my neck. And as we flow I thought about something that she could sit in to me more relaxed and comfortable on our rides, and so that she might consider the option more. And I felt my collar shifting on my neck. It started to grow down towards the middle of my back, going underneath Esdeath and then curving around my sides a little before hardening and lifting her up as it thickened into a large metal saddle for her to sit in. Comfortable for her and comfortable for me, win win.
As we got courses to the temporary camp that we had set up to plan and strategize, well she strategized, I just wandered around doing whatever I pleased. I noticed a flash in the corner of my eye, something metal in the distance was focusing in the light, sending light bouncing off if the metal and into my eyes. I just closed my eyes and borrowed Esdeath's sight to continue to look at what it was. I showed her the image and which direction it was and she looked North to see that that light was still following us around, to keep me from seeing what was over there.
I changed her eyesight with our bond and I sent an apology of emotion through the link as her vision changed to see heat signatures in the approaching storm. It was surprising, there was a giant mass of red and dark red in the distance, I didn't know what it was but Esdeath got hit with surprise and then exhilaration and then she tugged up in the collar and I followed her direction into the clouds. She used her power to make an ice arrow foot down into the main tent with something flapping attached to it, and then she raised me into the clouds again and steered me North. Towards the giant mass of red that I had seen through her
I sent my curiosity through the link and she patted my side.
"Our final fight here in the north is here, this is our final problem before we can go back home to the Empire" she said to me and I hummed with excitement. Home, and it was just a battle away, so all that red in the distance was an army of enemies. And we were going to be coming at them from behind. She asked me to look below and switch my vision a couple times along the way, but once she saw that we were at the end of their army. She suddenly rugged down at the collar and I went into a quick and silent dive through the air, and I didn't stop. Even as I impacted with the ground, the sound of surprise going up around us as we I crushed humans to the snow-covered earth.
I stood up slowly letting my eyes grow a red hue, changing their color to make me look like a giant demon looking down upon lesser creatures as I roared over them, a beckon of death. And that's what they were to me, lesser creatures that didn't have any power to stop me as I killed them however I wanted.
I felt Esdeath discount quickly to stand at my side as my body started to change. I drew in the elements around me, mostly ice, show, and melting water as my body-heat melted into the ice-covered ground, I cut my paw with my tail to allow my blue to mix with the element and me in a casing of ice-armor. My teeth, spines, cows, and my tail turned into metal absorbed from the soldiers underneath me and then ice encased them and mimicked it's form. My eyes glowed red as I looked through each human in front of me.
Then I looked at Esdeath at my side, and she looked at me, an ice sword in her left and her met sword in her right. And then we looked back at the army in front of us, and charged.
