Part 14: Ehsaas

Swara slowly begins to move her fingers. Sanskar, who was sitting besides her senses her movement and looks at her fingers.

Her eyes slowly flicker open and she slowly gazes around. She sees Sanskar while he concernedly looks at her. Sanskar presses the buzzer which was near Swara's bed in order for the nurse or doctor to come.

"Swara, how are you feeling?" He asks and Swara plainly blinks at him.

Soon a doctor walks inside to check on Swara. "Can you please stand outside." He says and Sanskar shakes his head, understanding and walking away. The doctor begins to examine Swara.

Sanskar sees Sharmishta, Shekhar and Ragini walk towards him with Kavita.

"She's conscious, the doctor is checking her." Sanskar reveals and Sharmishta sighs a relief.

After examining her, the doctor walks out. "To make her avoid the pain, we will give her painkillers but other than that she's in a perfect condition to talk to, you all can see her." He reveals and leaves.

Everyone rush inside and Sanskar slowly follows from behind. "Swara. . ." Ragini happily trials off and holds Swara's hand.

Swara tries to smile but couldn't, tears fall out of her eyes. Everyone began to talk to Swara and cheer her up while Sanskar saw her from distance, he was glad nothing happened to Swara.

After a while, Sharmishta and Ragini began to argue. "Maa, I'll stay with her. You go take rest."

"Ragini Beta, I'll stay with Swara. You recently came and must be tired so go home."

"Maa. . ."

"Shhh. You two go home, I'll stay with Swara." Shekhar interrupts, gaining everyone's attention.

"But Shekhar. . ."

"Na. . . I'm saying and that is final." He declares, not willing to change his decision. Sharmishta and Ragini frown, giving up in front of Shekhar.

They unwillingly begin to move away after bidding bye to Swara and telling her they'll be back tomorrow. Sanskar also walks out before they did and he was talking to Kavita.

"I'm not going until Swara is better. I can't leave her in this condition and go."

Kavita nods in understanding, "No one would want to leave Swara in this condition and go, she needs your support at the moment."

Ragini and Sharmishta hear, Ragini looks at Sharmishta. "Maa, who is he?" Ragini whispers and Sharmishta turns to her. "Swara's Shona." Ragini, after remembering looks on. "He exists?" Sharmishta shakes her head positively, "He was Sanskar Maheshwari all that time, that's why it was hard for us to make out who was her Shona."

"He's Sanskar Maheshwari?" Sharmishta nods and Ragini looks at him.

"Come Aunty and Ragini, I'll drop you two home." Kavita utters as her eyes land on the two. The two nod and begin to follow Kavita who walks forward.

Sanskar slowly moves towards the door and looks at Swara from the window.

Swara's eyes fall on the window and she sees him, she senses pain, concern and something else which she was unsure of.

While Swara tried to move, she could feel her legs move a little. Her eyes move away from Sanskar's and fix on her legs. She tries to move them again and they slightly move. She looks on.

"P.  . Papa." Swara softly says and Shekhar looks at her. "Yes Beta, say."

"M. . My legs."

"What happened to them?"

"I c. . . Could feel them." She says and Shekhar looks on. "You can feel them?" Swara blinks, confirming a yes and Shekhar rushes out to get a doctor.

Sanskar was confused as he didn't hear the convo between them. The doctor rushes inside with a nurse.

"We need to refer her to the team which took care of her in those years, they know her better than we do. Though I think it's because of the shock her spinal cord received but I'm not fully sure." The doctor says and Shekhar nods.

The doctor leaves with the nurse and Shekhar looks at Swara with a smile.

"I'm telling Sharmishta and Ragini." Swara blinks and Shekhar starts to call, upon not receiving a good service, he was forced to go out.

Sanskar remained outside, he did not wish to go in front of Swara and make her angry or annoyed. Swara tried getting but couldn't, the nurse walked inside and began to take the canola's off from Swara's hand as she was done with being transfused with blood.

"How are you feeling?" She asks.

"G. . .good." Swara replies. The nurse sticks plasters her hand and then smiles at her, walking out with the blood bag.

Swara again tries moving and as she does, she tilts to the side and falls onto the floor. Sanskar immediately rushes inside and bends down, holding her arm.

"Swara, what are you doing?" He concernedly asks and begins to lift her, she looks at him and he places her on the bed. "I don't want anymore injuries on you. Take some rest." He adds and looks at her.

"You must be hungry, if you needed something then you should've called one of the staff member, the buzzer was right next to you. You could've at least called m. . ." Sanskar stops as he realises what he was about to say but she understands.

He then sees the food on the table and picks the tray up, bringing it towards Swara. He then places it on the bed and helps Swara sit up but without eye-contact while Swara stared at him continuously. He then sits on the stool and inches closer to her while holding the plate of soup. Not all the time soup is given to patients to drink, Swara's jaw was swelled up that's why they gave her soup to drink otherwise she would be eating bread or biscuit.

Sanskar fills the spoon with the soup and brings it closer to her mouth, she tries to drink it but each time she opens her mouth wide, her jaw begins to pain. She touches it painfully and Sanskar understands. He glances around and then his eyes land on a straw which was connected with the drink, he deprecated it and then places on end in the soup while other end near Swara's mouth. She inches forward and manages to trap it in between her lips, she then begins to drink the soup while Sanskar was holding the plate for her.

Shekhar was seeing this and his lips curl up, he decided to not interrupt and walks away.

Sanskar began to take care of Swara and this continued everyday. Along with Shekhar, Sharmishta and Ragini also see the way he's caring for Swara. Swara was also surprised seeing him care for her even after she caused him pain.

After a week, the doctors discussed and allowed Swara to slowly start her treatment of starting to walk again after shifting her to another ward. Swara was slowly learning how to walk but was failing each time. She could stand on her feet but taking steps was slightly difficult for her. Once, in her time alone, she stood on her feet and began to move forward, she lost her balance and was about to fall when Sanskar came and held her on time, he placed the bag on the bed and helped her stand straight. She looked at him and he moved away. He didn't mind at all seeing her walking, he instead began to courage her to take her steps.

Swara yet again begins to take small steps and successfully does, Sanskar proudly smiles while Swara smiles with tears, not believing it happened.

"You did it Swara." Sanskar says and Swara, in excitement hugs him.

Shekhar, Ragini, Sharmishta and Kavita look at this and smile.

Sanskar was shocked by her hug, he was never expecting it. Swara realises and parts away. Sanskar then diverts the attention to the food he brought.

This continued for another week and Swara was now successful in walking though she limps and struggles at time but she manages. Sanskar had never missed a chance to show his care for her, he unknowingly made her feel what he feels for her but Swara couldn't recognise it.

This was it for Sanskar I guess, now that Swara was better, why is he needed. Swara was in the toilet while Sanskar gets a call, she slowly walks out and Sanskar turns his back without seeing her.

"Yes Lucky, I'm leaving for London today. My flight has been booked." Hearing his words, Swara looks on.

"No Lucky, I only stayed her to take care of Swara but now that Swara's better, I have no reasons to stay. I will unnecessarily cause her anger, she hates me and I don't know how she managed to see my face." He adds and Swara's eyes moist as she realises how much pain she caused him.

He did so much for her but why, why does she feel there's something else too which he made her feel.

"Hmm, I'm leaving in three hours. My luggage from the hotel must've already be in the car by now. It's only 2 minute drive from this hospital so the driver must be bringing it in 2 minutes."

'He stayed in a hotel near this hospital for me?' Swara asks herself in her mind and then looks at Sanskar.

"I'll talk to you after I reach London." Sanskar says and disconnects the call. Swara moves back inside the toilet and pretends to come out, not hearing anything.

He turns as he hears her walk out, she curves a small fake smile. "Swara, take care of yourself." He utters and she knew what was coming next but doesn't know why it'll pain her.

Before Sanskar could say anything further, Ragini walks inside with Kavita, Sharmishta and Shekhar.

"Swara." Ragini utters and walks towards her, hugging her.

Kavita also walks besides her. But Swara's eyes were only on Sanskar.

Kaise batayein
Kyun tujhko chahe
Yaara batha na paayein

Sanskar curves a fake smile and waves, slowly drifting towards the exit.

Baatein dil o ki
Dekho jo baki
Aake tujhe samjhaein

Swara wanted to stop him from leaving, but her feet were stuck. The thought which merely was repeating in her mind was 'Do I really deserve him?'

Sanskar exits the room and as he does, his expression change and tears form in his eyes.

"Will you let him go Shona?" Swara's eyes move to her mother, Sharmishta as she asks that question.

"Won't you stop him?" Shekhar continues and Swara looks at him.

"He's always been there for you Swara, he never left your side in these two weeks, don't let him leave please." Kavita in a begging tone says and Swara's moist eyes move towards her.

"He held your hand when you needed it, he helped you from falling, don't leave his hand Swara." Ragini utters.

"Or you'll regret." Kavita, Sharmishta and Shekhar say.

"Close your eyes Swara. . ." Ragini helps Swara close her eyes. "Who do you see?"

Swara sees Sanskar, who was take care of her from past these two weeks.

"Don't let him go Swara, his happiness isn't going away from here, he's only going because you told him to leave you alone." Kavita says, reminding Swara.

Swara opens her eyes and looks at everyone in the room who were encouraging her.
