Six
He didn't get arrested. He still couldn't believe it, but he didn't get arrested. Like she said, he was innocent, except for the fact that he stole from them, regularly. Luckily, he didn't take from the store that day. He was waiting for a good moment to come in and do his thing, when he saw the robber. After that he couldn't take something.
"Thank you," Aliyah said, when he came to the store the next day. "For yesterday. I wouldn't know what to do without you."
He smiled. "It was a team effort."
Was it though? She didn't feel like it was. He had saved the day, she just stood there and hoped for rescue, which came. Blake could also have used the moment to take anything he wanted, so maybe he was right all along. He didn't steal from them. It must've been someone else that she just didn't notice.
"See you around." He waved and left.
Aliyah sighed. The store was a mess. Her dad and she tried to tidy up the shelves and the floor, but they both could still felt the terror in their bodies of the day before. They both didn't feel like taking a break, because business never stopped, so they couldn't stand still. There was still a lot to do and not enough time.
"Can you take the new load?" her dad asked Aliyah, when he checked the money in the cash register. Aliyah nodded and went to the back, where she loaded in the new products. Boxes filled up with items were loaded into their storage room. She sighed. There was no way that she was going to get this filled up before closing time. She didn't feel like taking afterhours, but she might not have a choice. At least Blake wouldn't come to disturb her.
She sighed and sorted out the boxes per aisle. Then she grabbed a trolley and loaded it full of boxes. She exhaled and said: "Let's do this."
