Aishwarya POV

"Uhmm,"

I heard him clearing his throat.

I immediately pulled my veil low to cover my face and turned a little.

Hearing his footsteps approaching me slowly felt like suddenly the time was slowing down. No one was around. I was alone and there was a fear that was bubbling up in me that if he would talk, I would have to talk too. And, what would I say?

He stopped in front of me and I could feel as if suddenly the space was decreasing, like him standing in front of me was making me feel sweaty in my palms and a dryness in my throat.

"Darassal, vivah ke pashchat, muh dikhayi par patni ko kuch dena hota hai,"

"Actually, after the wedding, the husband is meant to give something to the wife,"

He said in a slow voice and I felt a shiver running down my spine with his morning voice. It felt deep and hot. I blinked and through my veil, I could see him forwarding his hand holding a ring in it.

My heartbeats raced and my fingers started shaking a little.

A ring for me?

But despite feeling so nervous I courageously forwarded my hand with my palm above and he handed me the ring.

"Thank you,"

I managed to say and he just stayed silent.

I slipped the ring inside my ring finger with my slightly shaky hands removing the extra one from my hand while all the time he was watching my hand.

And, suddenly he said.

"You should have called the attendees to help you get ready,"

I gulped and blinked nervously.

How could I tell him that all my life I had spent time making my sisters get ready like an attendee? Getting ready with the help of attendees does not make me comfortable.

I stayed silent for some moments to figure out what should I say and then tried to say.

"I did not want to disturb anyone this early morning,"

He took a step closer.

"Oh,"

I abruptly took a step back and he suddenly took a step back too.

"Oh, I am sorry, I did not want to startle you, I just... wanted this ring to wear,"

He said after taking a ring from the dressing table.

He was smelling fresh and I could guess that he had also got ready.

I took a step back slowly and lowered my gaze.

"Princess,"

And, suddenly the voice of the attendee caught my attention and I recognized that it belonged to Moni.

"Ji,"

I asked in the slow voice.

"Badi-ma has come to meet you,"

I furrowed my eyebrows a little with the confusion and seeing no response from my side for a few good moments he said.

"Badi-ma is our aunt, a mother figure to us. We should go and meet her to take her blessings,"

I nodded and said to agree.

"Ji,"

I inhaled deeply still feeling nervous and turned on my feet to walk a little behind him with my slow steps. My anklets were too loud and with this much jewellery on my body I was sounding like a moving jeweller.

He might have sensed my discomfort as he slowed down his steps so that I walk with him.

I closed my eyes for a moment and collected my courage to match his steps.

We both walked out of the chamber and suddenly he asked in a slow voice.

"How can you see through the veil?"

I felt uneasiness in my stomach with his words and I felt nervous all of sudden.

What should I reply?

Was he feeling uncomfortable with the veil? Was he concerned? Was he wanted to look at my face and see me?

Hundreds of thoughts ran through my brain and I still could not figure out what to answer. It only made me even more anxious.

My inappropriate silence made him not question anything further and then suddenly I heard a womanly voice which sounded like an old woman.

"Ah, Ranvijay,"

We both walked closer to her and he said in a slow and gentle voice.

"Aishwarya, this is our Badi-ma, and Badi-ma, she is Aishwarya,"

I walked closer and bent low to touch her feet.

She placed her hand on my head gently and held my shoulder to bring me up.

"God bless you,"

She said and held the hem of my veil and my heartbeats raced immediately when she lifted my veil.

I immediately lowered my gaze and I could feel my heartbeats audible.

My breathing turned heavy and I froze.

"Beautiful,"

She said after a long and calculated pause.

And, nothing could make me more nervous, scared, anxious and frightened than feeling that his eyes were on me.

My eyes were not daring to lift the lashes and look up. It felt like I turned immobile in the very moment. Like my heart was craving for just one word to listen that he liked me. Like he did not have any problems with my complexion and looks.

"You do not have to stay in the veil. Our daughters-in-law are like our daughters,"

Badi ma pulled my attention back to her and she placed the dupatta over my head and I blinked nervously keeping my gaze low with her words.

And, suddenly the voice of my sister-in-law caught my attention.

"Hatiye, Devar-sa, ab dekhna band kijiye or hume apni Devarani se kuch jaroori baat karne dijiye,"

"Move aside, Devar-sa and let me talk some important stuff with my Devarani,"

She came closer and placed her hand on my shoulder.

Leaning in closer to my ear she slowly asked.

"I hope your husband did not trouble you a lot last night, Aishwarya,"

Everyone laughed and my cheeks turned warm and I could feel like melting with the timidness.

It was all too much.

"Hato bhi Nandani, hamari nayi Bahu ko tang mat karo,"

"Move aside, Nandani, do not play with our new daughter-in-law,"

Badi-ma moved her aside and held my shoulder to make me walk towards the place where there was a wide and open pot filled with milk in the middle and it was surrounded by the cushions on the floor.

She made me sit on one of the cushions and sat beside me.

I placed my hands on my lap, keeping my gaze low.

"Ranvijay, you sit there,"

She said to him.

And, from the corner of my eyes, I saw him sitting in front of me. Between us, there was this open wide metallic vessel with the milk.

All the ladies surrounded us.

I saw my sister-in-law sitting on my other side and Badi-ma started.

"So, I will put this ring in the vessel and you both, the newlywed couple have to find the ring in this milk-filled vessel. Whoever will find the ring first will suppose to be dominating the other in the future,"

She said and I lightly lifted my lashes to steal a gaze at him.

My eyes looked at him and the moment I found him looking back at me, I immediately lowered my gaze.

I closed my eyes for a moment and tried to calm down my racing heart beats.

I lifted my gaze once and finding him stealing gazes at me made my heart beat race even more.

Now, he had seen my face. Like, he saw me real.

What was he thinking?

Did he like me or not?

Was he mad?

"Ready? Aishwarya,"

Badi-ma asked and I nodded.

"Ji, Badi-ma,"

I replied in a slow voice and she smiled looking at me and then looked at him.

"Ready? Ranvijay,"

He looked blushing a little and said.

"Ji, Badi-ma,"

"Okay, so I am putting the ring into the vessel,"

She said.

I looked carefully at her hand, keeping my gaze low, not daring to look at my husband who was sitting in front of me and we had a distance of less than a metre but it was seeming like never ending miles.

And, when she dropped the ring into the milk and put her hand in it to lightly let the ring get lost in it. I looked at him looking at me.

I lowered my gaze and blinked nervously.

"Now you both go,"

She said and I just waited for him to put his hand first.

While he was just looking at me.

My heartbeats were audible to me.

I blinked.

The time kept passing.

"Why are not putting your hands on?"

My sister in law said and held my wrist to make me put my hand inside the vessel.

And, I looked at him, who also now put his hand into the vessel.

I could hear the slight giggles and applause for us.

I raked my fingers gently in the milk, it was normal in temperature and started searching for the ring and was equally afraid to not touch his hand by any mistake.

He was maintaining his distance too, just moving his hand lightly, maybe just for the formality. A part of me felt a little upset seeing him not showing interest in the after-rituals of the wedding.

"Move forward, Aishwarya,"

I felt a little push by my sister-in-law and my hand suddenly touched his.

I felt a strong shiver down my spine and I immediately pulled my hand back.

I abruptly lowered my gaze.

"Devar-sa, if you both continue shying like this, I bet we will have to wait for the eternity to see any of you finding the rings,"

She said to him and he just looked at me for a moment. His face was expressionless but I could see a tint of blush on his cheeks.

And, suddenly, the voice of Agastya travelled down my ear.

"Bhabhi-sa, I think I should participate rather than Bhai-sa,"

He said walking inside the hall and sitting beside him.

He lifted his gaze and shot him a glare.

"What is happening?"

Suddenly, a powerful, deep voice made me startle a little and I looked at Ranaji entering the hall. He was the elder brother of him.

"Ranaji, we are just telling this newlywed couple to show some enthusiasm in the rituals,"

My sister-in-law said and he chuckled a little.

"Not everyone is enthusiastic in everything like you, Nandani,"

He said sitting beside him.

She made a face that I saw turning my face to him and said.

"But, it's post-wedding rituals,"

He smiled and I saw him putting his hand on his shoulder and saying.

"Ladko ki izzat ka sawal hai, Ranvijay. Anguthi to dhoondhni hi padegi,"

"It's about the pride of men, Ranvijay. You have to find the ring,"

He looked at him.

"But, Bhai-s-,"

"Umm, No, no ifs no buts, I am sure that with the companionship of Nandani, Aishwarya will soon become like her, and to win all the arguments, you have to find the ring,"

He said and suddenly everyone laughed.

"Come on, man,"

He patted his shoulder and my husband said.

"Ji, Bhai-sa,"

He brought his gaze back to the vessel and I looked at my sister-in-law, who leaned in closer to my ear and said in a slow voice.

"Did you hear? Aishwarya. You have to do it,"

She said and I nodded slightly to agree.

And, then she leaned in closer again and said in my ear.

"And, after finding the ring, you have to throw the milk of the vessel right at his face,"

She said and I looked at her with slightly furrowed eyebrows.

"But, Jiji,"

I tried to question.

"Shhh, just do as I say, it is a good omen,"

She said and I brought my gaze back to the vessel.

"Now, go,"

She said and I put my hand forward.

So, I just did not had to find the ring but after that had to throw the milk of the vessel right at his face.

I moved my hand more inside the vessel and now we both actively started searching for the ring.

"Bhai-sa will win, I know,"

Agastya said and I inhaled a deep breath.

Aishwarya, you can do this.

I reminded myself and then suddenly my hand accidentally touched his.

And, at the same moment, my finger touched the ring.

He suddenly lifted his eyes on me and I looked at him too.

His finger also touched the ring.

I immediately tightened my hold on the ring and his fingers tightened his hold on mine.

He looked at me with a sharp gaze as if warning me to leave it.

I looked at him.

And, the moment our gaze met and we kept staring at each other with the intense gaze, I felt butterflies in my stomach.

It was suddenly all weird.

I immediately lowered my gaze and left the ring.

And, he also loosened his hold on my hold.

The moment, I felt him taking his hand a little away out of timidness, I grabbed the ring and took it out.

Everyone cheered and before anyone could understand, I held the edges of the vessel and lifted it to throw the milk at him.

"Woooooooaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,"

My sister-in-law jumped with joy and everyone started laughing.

I looked at all three men wet in the milk and my husband had a look of disbelief.

"Bhabhi-sa,"

Agastya screamed and suddenly Ranaji said.

"It was all Nandani's idea,"

He stood up and brought a pot of water. And, before anyone could take the safety positions, he threw the water right at my sister-in-law's face.

She screamed.

"Urgggggggghhhh,"

And stood frozen all drenched in water and I could not help but laugh a little.

"Take it, Bhai-sa,"

Suddenly, my sight noticed Agastya handing over a pot of water to him.

"Bhai-sa,"

He looked at me holding the pot and suddenly I realised what just happened.

I just stared at him, while he was looking at me.

And, I felt suddenly the time stopped and just when I lowered my gaze believing that he would not do that.

I felt a splash of water on me and I stood all wet in the water.

My breathing turned uneven and my heart beats raced insanely.

I lifted my gaze to look at him and there was a slight smirk on his lips.

Ohhhhh myyyyyyy God!!!!!!

And, suddenly I looked at my sister-in-law who suddenly held another pot and Ranaji started running away.

"Nandani, do not you dare,"

He warned but she ran after him and threw another pot at him.

And, I laughed lightly looking at them.

"Aishwarya,"

I heard Badi-ma's voice and I looked at her. She was smiling looking at me.

My laughter vanished immediately and she said.

"After such a long time, I have seen this hall so playful again, especially Ranvijay,"

I blinked nervously not understanding a single word and she just smiled.

Suddenly, I heard the laughter and looked at Ranaji holding the sister-in-law's hand and emptying the water of the pot on her.

I chuckled.

And, Badi-ma said.

"Now, you both should go and get changed before you catch a cold,"

I lowered my gaze and nodded.

"Ji,"

I looked at him walking towards the inside already and I just mindlessly turned my feet to go after him.
