Chapter 21
See, I told you I had an explanation...

"Gladion, you aren't supposed to be in here. Mother will worry you again," Lillie said from the open lab door.
"She should know that I'd come back here today of all days. I'm not leaving any time soon. If she really wants me to say out, then she'd clean the room out," Gladion muttered.
"You know you'd never let her do that. Are you going to visit the alter later on today?" Lillie spoke.
"Of course I am. I always do," Gladion said to which Lillie nodded and left him in solitude. It had been a whole year since Gladion had found out about (y/n)'s disappearance and he hadn't been in her lab since that day until now.
He'd kept his promise to his mother to stop searching but he'd always waited for her return, going to visit the alter of the moon with Lunala to see if she would ever show up.
At the moment, he was looking over some pictures that he'd gathered over the years. (Y/n) really hadn't changed as much as he'd thought she did but she most certainly had some new interests that he hadn't known about.
She was very much interested in ultraspace travel and unlocking the extent of any psychic pokémon's psychic abilities. She loved pokémon so much that she wanted to know everything about them.
In one of her videos, he'd heard her mention wanting to become a pokémon professor that specialized in researching psychic pokémon and their connection to ultraspace since Lunala, Solgaleo, and Necrozma were all psychic type pokémon. Gladion had even gone to try to communicate with Neroza but the pokémon only spoke to (y/n) according to others.
Gladion set the photos aside and wiped away the few tears that he hadn't noticed were there until just then. He stood up from (y/n)'s chair and left (y/n)'s lab. He'd be going to visit the alter of the moon a bit early.
As he made his way to Aether's main floor, alarms in the building began to go off. This didn't happen often and for a moment, Gladion wondered if Moon had actually come back like she'd said. He didn't worry though. He had no doubt that Lunala and Solgaleo would be able to handle it this time since they'd both been training with Sun.
Despite that, he still had to make sure that the threat wasn't too much of a problem in case it wasn't actually Moon. To his dismay, Gladion found the disruption to be Neroza. The psychic type pokémon had escaped and was headed away from the island. How Neroza had gotten past the specialized contained facilities' security was a mystery but it had been done.
"Gladion, Neroza is heading to the alter of the moon!" Lillie said as she ran up to him.
"What? How do you know that?" Gladion asked. They had to almost shout in order to hear each other over the noise of the alarms and commotion.
"Neroza told me so but through telepathy. Neroza found (y/n) but needs Lunala or Solgaleo's power to be able to get to where she is in ultraspace!" Lillie said.
"How was Neroza able to tell you all of that? You just left from where I was!" Gladion said in slight disbelief.
"I told you, telepathy, now let's go before we miss it!" Lillie said as she took hold of Gladion's arm and pulled him along towards the exit. He followed after her and was quite surprised when Solgaleo showed up in front of them after traveling through an ultra wormhole.
Lillie didn't hesitate to climb onto Solgaleo's back and she waited for Gladion to do the same, which he did. Solgaleo opened another ultra wormhole that led straight to the alter of the moon where Lunala and Sun were waiting.
Sun waved to Lillie who smiled and waved back which Gladion considered to be a bold move for Sun knowing that Gladion was right there. He didn't disapprove of Lillie's relationship but he prefered that they not do anything at all when he was around.
Overprotective? Maybe. Illogical? Well, Gladion didn't think so. Lillie was his sister afterall. They got down from Solgaleo and walked over to Sun. Neroza appeared soon after and seemed to be having a conversation with Sun and even Lillie.
"Are you sure Lunala is the best option?" Sun said and there was a pause as he waited for an answer.
"That's right, I forgot that Lunala would automatically have a stronger bond to (y/n). Is that what you need to help you pinpoint her location?" Lillie said and Necrozma seemed to be nodding.
"Hey, how come Neroza isn't talking to me?" Gladion asked Lillie while Neroza conversed with Sun. Neroza must have heard his question because Lillie looked back at the pokémon as if she had been addressed.
"Neroza says that you still hold resentment towards ultraspace in general. I don't quite know what that means but that's what Neroza just told me," Lillie said with a shrug and an apologetic look. Once Sun amd Neroza's conversation was over Neroza fused with Lunala who was glad to help.
"Solgaleo is going to keep them in contact with us so that we can get any updates on their location and know whether or not they find (y/n). Lunala says that her location is pretty eaay to find now that the dimension she is in has aligned once more," Sun reported as Luneroza, the name that Neroza and Lunala's fusion was given, opened their ultra wormhole. They disappeared into ultraspace, the wormhole still open, leaving Sun, Lillie, and especially Gladion to wait.
"They found her already!" Sun suddenly said. The news was a little too unbelievable.
"Are you sure?" Gladion asked. If Sun was lying, he wouldn't hear the end of it.
"Yes, I'm sure. They're bringing her back now!" Sun said as he backed away from the still open ultra wormhole. Just as he did, Luneroza returned but they didn't seem to have (y/n) with them. Instead, as the ultra wormhole closed, a small Cosmoem that was abnormally colored float in front of Luneroza as they unfused.
"I don't get it. I thought they were supposed to ne getting (y/n)," Lillie said in confusion as the Cosmoem floated in front of them. It was a deep crimson with hues of pink and dark orange in its center, much unlike the normal cosmic color that Solgaleo and Lunala had been at that point in their evolutionary path.
"A shiny Cosmoem? But, Neroza, you were supposed to bring (y/n) back not a shiny Cosmoem," Sun said but his expression suddenly changed to shock once Neroza apparently said something else.
"Neroza says that this shiny Cosmoem is (y/n)," Sun said in disbelief. They all stared at shiny Cosmoem for a moment.
"That's impossible. How do they know for sure?" Gladion skeptically said. It was even stranger than all the other things they had witnessed so far.
"Lunala says that this Cosmoem has the same psychic signature as (y/n) did. Apparently, (y/n) had been developing psychic powers or something without her knowing. Solgaleo even agrees that the psychic signature is the same," Sun said.
"Then if that's really (y/n), how do we turn her back into...herself?" Lillie asked. The ultra wormhole traveling pokémon had no answer for that question.
"Maybe we should try talking to her," Sun suggested but just as he finished speaking, Cosmoem erupted into a bright shimmering glow that blinded everyone. When they were all able to see again, (y/n) was standing where Cosmoem once floated but her eyes were closed and she was falling forward.
Gladion rushed forward and caught her just in time, allowing them both to fall to their knees. He didn't know what to think or say or even do so all he did was hug her, not wanting to ever let her go.
"Hey, guys, where exactly are we?" she asked, her words like music to Gladion's ears since it had been so ling since he'd last heard her voice. He had stayed away from her recordings and had almost forgotten what it was like to hear her speak.
"You're back home now. Don't worry, everything is fine now but you have a lot of catching up to do," Sun could be heard saying.
"I don't know what you're talking about. Where exactly am I. The only reason I know whoever you people are is because I was able to read your minds but who are you people?" (y/n) said, still allowing Gladion to hug her.
"You mean you don't remember," Gladion said as he pulled away from (y/n), noticing the discomfort that she was quite good at hiding.
"No...I can't seem to remember anything and for some reason, you're mind is heavily guarded. I don't know what your name is," (y/n) said to him.
