Chapter 22: Ariah

"Okay, so here's what's going down." Ben began. "Few years back, the CIA took an abandoned building downtown and turned it into a lab without telling anyone. It's their most sophisticated one to date, so that's probably where the captives were taken."

I raised my hand.

"Yes, Ariah?"

"How do you know this? I thought you said it was a secret."

"Ben is a trusted member of the military." Miss Bea interjected. "He knows about a lot of government secrets. Continue, please."

"No, Bea." Ben said with a little smile. "Actually, my unit is assigned to the lab, as one of their security details. And that could be our in. Security isn't allowed to see a map of the facility, but we are supposed to memorize the layout in case of an emergency. So I could make a map for you right here and now if I wanted to, but it's probably better for you to memorize it, too. There are a couple tricks I use to keep track of where I am when I'm on patrol, and I could show you those as well. What we really need is a plan."

"Okay," Keris said. "What are the guard rotations?"

"Wait for just a second. The more pressing concern than the guards is how we're going to smuggle you two in. The entire neighborhood is bugged, every move of every person is carefully recorded and matched against a worldwide database. You'd have to find some way of matching your features to someone else's, and it can't be a millimeter off, otherwise the cameras around the building will pick up on it.

"After that, you'd have to get through a fingerprint and iris scanner, the most sophisticated versions ever made. And that's before you hit the sniffer dogs and guards. And even then, that's just the outer security."

I think about this for a while. Using our magic, we could probably work around some of those obstacles..... "What about inner security?"

"What you'd expect: Guards, cameras, infrared sensors. You'd need a key card to access any of the rooms, as long as you have the security clearance."

As I listen to them discuss the guard rotations and possible ways to fake a key card, a plan forms in my mind. I smile, and say,

"Ok, here's what we're going to do."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what happens next is that they schedule the break-in for two days from then, and no, I'm sorry, you're just gonna have to see the plan then.

Since I'm not experienced enough to manage fixing Keris and Ariah's relationship while the rescue is happening, it's gonna happen while they're conserving their magic over the next two days.

So it's gonna be in the next few chapters.

Surprise!

Yeah, this story is ending faster than I thought.

But the good news is, I have another story hiding behind you, ready to jump you when Airwalkers is done! And I might do some oneshots if you want me to.

Three of those chapters are already written right now, I just need to add an author's note and music.

Ok, now I have go write the paper I was supposed to be writing when I was writing this instead.
