• a preface •

I write monologues for a few reasons, one being they're one of my favourite things to write. Dialogue is fun, but there's something really enchanting about a character spilling their heart out to an audience on stage. They're fun to perform, and fun to write!

I also write monologues to express myself. One of my favourites (and the first featured in this book), Death or Obedience, was written after a particularly trying day at school. I was mad; writing that helped me get my anger out without punching a wall or anything.

There's a lot behind my monologues. I often spend several days on just one, and there's always extensive backstory behind them. One of my worlds, Demon Dream, is becoming a full comic soon, and my other main one, Magevoid, might end up becoming a full-length novel. Both of these worlds feature in this book.

I also write monologues for others, when I feel like it. Usually I only write for close friends whose characters I know very well. Some of the monos in here are gifts for those close friends.

I've split this book into three sections: one for Demon Dream, one for Magevoid, and one for others.

If you're an actor and you fancy performing one of these monologues, please do let me know! And whether you're an actor or not, I hope you enjoy reading my monologues!
