Chapter 7: Percy

They traveled further and further into the Alaskan wasteland. Keeping as far as they could from the mortal settlements, afraid that they might accidentally come across a demigod. Weather they be claimed or unclaimed, Greek or Roman, if they eventually ended up at any of the camps, there is a chance they'll be interrogated and find Percy's whereabouts.

After all, Kronos is still evil in Roman Mythology, just under the name of Saturn instead.

So, Percy pushed onwards, secluded from the rest of the world, with only a partially insane Titan living in his brain to keep him company.

You know, the usual. Totally not afraid he'll go insane, Totally.

Percy feels the fatigue of the long journey in every part of his body, seeping deep into his muscles and his eyes droop with weariness. He collapsed on the floor, deep in a woodsy area. He wondered if there were any nature spirits in the world away from the gods. As he started to close his eyes, Kronos said in a small voice,"I can make the pain go away, the tiredness leave your body-".

"Kronos", Percy said sternly yet weakly at the same time, "for the last time, I. Am. NOT. Giving. You. Control!"

*sigh*

Percy nods, satisfied that he had gotten his point across.

He went to sleep, thankful that nothing moved in the woods.

A few days later, Percy had made it into the icy part of Alaska. Then, a few more days later, a freak ice storm hit. Percy ran into the nearest cave to seek shelter as they where now deep within the icy expanse of Alaska.

I have a feeling that this is going to be the place, Percy thought as he un-slung a backpack from his back.

It wasn't an ordinary backpack that one would take to school, this was a hiking backpack. A tightly rolled sleeping bag was located at the top within a weather proof bag while the interior was stuffed with food alot of food, two canteens filled with water, and necessities for him to live.

He rolled out his sleeping bag, and curled up within. The moment his head hit the floor, he immediately fell into a surprisingly dreamless sleep.

When he awoke, the ice storm was still raging.

"How long was I asleep?" Percy thought out loud.

"About a day, precisely twenty-three hours and thirty minutes. I would go into how 'if I were in control', but... it will hapen eventually so I'll just be patient and-".

"Yeah, yeah, shut up", Percy said annoyed.

*hmph!* "rude!"

Percy laughed and heard the Titan Lord chuckle which surprised him.

"You know? Maybe we can actually get along. Maybe, like, for once, we can have a normal conversation?" Percy said after a long pause.

"About what sea-spawn? I've only ever talked to my siblings about controlling the world and enslaving man kind?"

"Really? Wow! You Titans need a hobby. Hmm lets see.... how about.... Rhea?" Percy asked hesitantly.

There was a long pause, Percy was about to change the subject when Kronos surprisingly spoke up.

"She was... Really the only one who could keep me sane at times... after killing da- Ouranos, I have gone.... crazy-".

Still are, Percy thought but didn't say.

"- she was there for me, always. Even after I ate my children she still cared. It wasn't like Mother, she didn't rally people to cut me down. She...".

He paused for a long time, which caused Percy to sigh.

"Take all the time you need. It's not like I'm mortal", Percy muttered.

"... sorry, she was the only one who could still see the me before I killed Ouranos. She knew what I didn't know, that, deep down, I was still hurting".

The last part shocked Percy, "wait a minute. You were hurting after you killed your dad? I thought, like, you where proud!"

"No, I was. But after a while I felt... hollow. It didn't make matters any better when he cursed me so... and really, I only did it to gain mother's attention, her love. But...".

Percy sat and wondered about that for a few seconds. He could kinda picture himself in Kronos' shoes for a second. Here was your crazy father who went insane because he was now producing monsters for children. You volunteered to kill him, only wanting your mother to see you, to love you. The more he thought hypothetically, the more real it seemed until he was suddenly transported back in time.

The vision:

He stood in the shadows of a boulder, watching as his mother called her husband, his father. Her words resonating in his head, "kill your father! Make me proud!"

That was all he wanted after all, was.  To make her proud of him. To see him because he was ignored by her. Neglected, I'll make you proud of me mother!

Then, a ripple in the sky and a sudden pop. A man stood in front of his mother. He wiped a piece of hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear.

"Are you sure you want to try again?" He asked her in a seductive tone.

-Deep in the back of his head, Percy was disgusted because he was basically seeing his great grandparents flirt-

Gaea chuckled as she backed away from him, her kind and light chuckle turning into an evil laugh.

"Now!"

The four titans rushed out and grabbed Ouranos and pulled him onto the floor. Percy/Kronos stepped from the shadows with a scythe in hand. He looked down at his father, eyes pleading for him not to do this.

A moment's hesitation, do I want to do this?

-deep down, Percy is screaming "STOP!" but the vision continues-

It was only a moment, for when he saw the approving smile on his mother, he felt a sense of purpose fill him.

This is what I must do!

He slithered up to his father and placed the scythe at his throat. Ouranos looking Kronos dead in those always changing eyes, "If you do this, Kronos, I will curse you! Someday your own children will destroy you and take your throne, just as you are doing to me!"

His voice radiated power, but was also calm. Kronos hesitated again, but shook himself he raised his scythe then-

"STOP!" Percy screamed as he held his head. The vision dispersed as he got out of his trance.

"Kronos! Why did you make me see that!" Percy yelled into the darkness.

The Titan's conscience radiated concern.

"What do you mean? What did you see?"

"Don't play... wait! You really don't know?"

"I swear on the River of Styx that I have no idea what had just happened to you!"

Thunder boomed in the distance. After a few minutes of silence Kronos said, "see?"

Percy fell silent.

"What did you see?" Kronos asked again, so gently that Percy almost forgot that it was his evil cannibal grandpa he was talking to... almost.

"I saw... I saw what you did to Ouranos... through your eyes", Percy was able to finally say.

Kronos fell silent. Then asks, "what happened before you saw the vision?"

"I was imagining how it must have felt, to have to kill your own father just so your mother could love you...".

"Pity?"

"No, just. Putting myself in my enemy's shoes for a change".

"Hmm... fair enough".

They grew quite after that, Percy opening a bag of Chips Ahoy and munching on a cookie.

I wish they were blue.
