Chapter Twenty Six
The next day, Natsu and Gray were about to leave the dorm building to go to the train, but stopped when they felt water fall on them. The two looked up and saw there was a heavy rain shower.
"Damn it. It has to rain today doesn't it?" Gray questioned with a sigh.
"What's so important about today?" Natsu questioned in confusion, looking at the ice mage he usually doesn't get along with.
"We've got P.E outside remember? We're all supposed to run laps because Laxus is back and is taking over for today's lesson. He always makes us run laps." Gray explained with a groan. Natsu grinned as he punched his fist into his hand.
"I can't wait to fight him." Natsu said as flames went around his fists. Gray rolled his eyes as he ran through the rain. Natsu soon followed and the two made it to the train station in time. Once they got there, they saw the train was there and quickly hopped on. The train was very quiet as it was still early and only a few people were they. The two looked around the train and noticed the girls were sitting down. Aine was soaked through, while the girls were only slightly wet from the rain. Aine then sneezed, jumping out of her seat a little. Lucy sighed as she tried to dried Aine's hair with a towel.
"I thought you were the mature one. Dancing in the rain like that. You'll become ill." Lucy stated with a frown. Aine just looked away with a pout, which caused the others to laugh.
"Hey, what's up with you? You're soaked president." Gray pointed out as he and Natsu sat in a seat each behind the girls. Aine huffed, while Lucy puffed her cheeks out.
"Stay still." Lucy ordered. Levy giggled at the two before turning her head to the two male mages.
"She decided it would be fun to ditch the umbrella and run around in the rain." She explained with a closed eye smile.
"Well that was a dumb idea." Sting said as he and Rogue walked on the train. Erza glanced at them with an icy look in the corner of her eye, which caused the two to jump as well as have a shiver run down their spines.
"Shut up. At least I wasn't screaming while being chased by Erza." Aine huffed as she folded her arms over her chest.
"H-hey! If you heard us, then why didn't you help?! I thought we were friends!" Sting exclaimed as he pointed at Aine.
"Because you forced me to stay in school yesterday when I wanted to go home." Aine stated. She then stuck her tongue out childishly, which Sting returned childishly.
"Aw, Ai-Ai, you're letting your inner child out." Lucy giggled as she continued to dry Aine's hair. Aine huffed as she turned her head away to hide the blush that was slowly creeping up on her cheeks.
"S-shut up." She said, acting like her usual tsundere self. Lucy giggled as she stopped trying Aine's hair and placed the towel in her bag. She then pulled a hair brush out and began to brush Aine's hair.
"It's so much easier with your hair being shorter." Lucy said with a smile as she combed the tsundere's hair.
"Why else would I cut it?" Aine questioned, trying to sound proud as well as obvious. Lucy laughed as she jokingly rolled her eyes.
"Of cause Ai." She said. Sting and Rogue sat down on the seats behind Natsu and Gray as the boys continued to watch Lucy brush Aine's hair.
"I wonder what her hair feels like..." Rogue thought as he watched the president with a blush on his face. His eyes then widened as he shook his head. "Get those thoughts out of your head. What's wrong with you?!" Rogue thought.
"Hey, Ai-Ai? I have a favour to ask." Lucy said. Aine hummed as an answer. "I met this guy and he asked me out. I felt bad because I said no and he looked gloomy, so I soon accepted his request and he has a best friend~!" Lucy sang. Erza and Sting went wide eyed. "Feel like keeping me company so I don't feel awkward?" Lucy questioned.
"No!" Erza a shouted as both her and Sting rose from their seats, which caused everyone else to jump.
"What's wrong you two?" Yukino questioned, looking from Erza to Sting. Aine glanced at Erza in the corner of her eye. Erza nodded as she sat down. Aine then glanced at Sting in the corner of her eye, which caused him to sigh and sit down. The others still seemed confused about the redhead and blonde mages sudden outburst, however they were soon distracted as Aine answered Lucy's question.
"Sure..." She mumbled.
"Really?" Lucy gasped with wide eyes, sparkling. Aine hesitated as she clenched her fists on her lap.
"Yeah..." She mumbled. Lucy then closed her eyes as she smiled. After a couple of hours, the train left the station and took the students to school. Once arriving at the school, everyone entered to find their friends. Just as Lucy was about to give Aine the details on the double date, Erza and Sting pulled her away into a quiet room, where no one else were. "Another kidnapping attempt? And you're in on it too Erza?" Aine questioned as she crossed her arms over her chest as she rose her eyebrow up while tapping her foot on the ground.
"Sorry Aine, but that double date... Are you really ok with it...?" Erza questioned with a worried expression on her face.
"Yeah, I mean we're trying to get you with Rogue, but this double date might complicate things." Sting explained with a sigh. Aine sighed as her arms dropped to her sides while she leaned against a desk that was behind her.
"Honestly no. I don't want to join Lucy on this double date, but I'm going to make sure she doesn't get hurt." Aine stated. The two mages looked at her, not saying a thing. "Is this all?" Aine questioned.
"Why do you feel the need to protect everyone?" Sting questioned.
"Lucy's my best friend. Why wouldn't-"
"No. I mean everyone. Even the people who have been cruel to you. To the people who have judged you. The people who have given you every right to hate them." Sting explained. Aine rolled her eyes.
"I'm the student council president of this school. I'm supposed to protect everyone. It's my job. I'm not going to let this school crumble because of a few people disagree with me." Aine explained. The way she explained it made it sound like the answer should have already been known to the two. She then walked to the door of the classroom. "I'm going to class." She said simply. Sting and Erza watched the small girl open the door. Once she opened the door, she saw Rogue standing there. Aine just blinked before shaking her head and walking pass him.
"R-Rogue!" Sting exclaimed in shock as he saw his best friend at the door. "H-how much of our conversation did you hear?" He questioned with sweat dripping down his face.
"I heard enough. Why don't you want her to go on this date? Do you have feelings for her?" Rogue questioned as he looked at the blonde.
"What? No. She doesn't want to go on this date. That's why." Sting stated simply.
"Well it's her choice. If she decides to go, it's her choice. You can't force her to not go." Rogue stated as he shook his head.
"We're doing this for Aine, not ourselves." Erza stated as she approached the dragon slayer. Rogue gulped at the redhead. "She is in love with someone else, but is forcing herself to go on this date for Lucy." Erza simply said before walking pass the shadow dragon slayer. Rogue watched her walk off, before turning to his best friend, who was whistling 'innocently'.
