The Truth Can Set You Free

When the Artemis Space Station exploded in the year 2321, everyone thought there had been no survivors. It had been the greatest catastrophe that had happened in space in centuries, and the press, internet and social media were full of rumours what had allegedly happened.

About four days after the explosion, a space capsule was found in a remote part of the Sahara. Next to it sat Selene Alpha, the legendary scientist who had been on the station when the tragedy had occurred. She was flown out to a hospital and treated for her minor injuries, but it appeared as if the main injury she needed to recover from was the trauma she had sustained. Even when she was released from the hospital, she remained mute and refused to communicate with other people.

Selene was 32 when the accident - or at least the government was claimed that the explosion had been an accident - happened. When she died 50 years later, she had still not spoken a word. It was only a week later that one of her nephews found the cassettes hidden under her bed. Apparently, his aunt had spoken quite a lot when nobody had been watching her. Her confession was on the tapes: She had been smoking on one of the toilets on the space station, had accidentally set it on fire and had escaped with the one available space capsule while all the other astronauts had been sleeping.
