Once Upon a Meteor Shower

Okay, this is an unbelievable story. If someone had expected me to believe that it was a true story just a couple of weeks ago, I would have thought this person was crazy.

But what I'm going to tell you is a true story. I should know. I've lived through it.

First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Lizzie, I live in a coastal town (not far away from the beach actually) and I have a dog named Matt but no boyfriend.

So everything in my life was going great until my best friend's 28th birthday. Genie and I have known each other all our lives. I know every single one of Genie's secrets, which is why nobody has realised what happened on the night of her birthday party.

For some reason, we were standing on the balcony of her house when we saw a meteor shower in the sky.

"Oh, isn't it magnificent?" Genie asked and looked at the sky as if she was star-struck in the literal sense of the word.

I don't remember what happened after that. I must have passed out. When I came to my senses again, I immediately knew that something was off.

It didn't take me long to figure out what had happened. I looked at my body and realised that it was not mine at all, but Genie's. Actually, I have always envied Genie for her hourglass figure because I have been struggling with my weight all my life. Therefore, I have often wished I could have a body like hers instead. Obviously, I should have been more careful with my wishes.

That was when I heard Genie scream. She lay behind a nearby chair. She stared at her hands - my hands - incredulously. Never in my life had I been so thankful for her husband's eclectic taste in loud music because that was probably the reason why none of Genie's 30 other guests discovered us.

"What has just happened to us, Lizzie?" Genie asked.

"Well, I guess we switched bodies," I stated as if it wasn't obvious enough.

"But how? And why?"

She knew I had no answer to those questions.

At that very moment, we were interrupted by Genie's husband Dave, who grabbed me and pressed a very wet kiss on my lips. My initial reaction was to fend him off, but then again, that would have been suspicious.

"How are you doing?"

"Good," I lied.

"Great! Lizzie..." he said condescendingly to his wife because he had never been able to stand me. Then, he disappeared again.

Genie was upset about Dave's behaviour. "Is he always this mean to you?"

"Pretty much."

"Why have you never told me about it?"

"Because a guy like him isn't worth risking our friendship."

It was Genie who came up with the plan that we have put in action since then. "Do you want to take revenge on him for disrespecting you?"

"As a matter of fact, yes."

"Let's do this then."
