1. What is your full name?
Me name is Aife daughter of Gwaeddan. We ain't got no family name, on account of we ain't a real family, like with a father an' stuff. It's just me, me mum, me uncle Dalach an' his wife Jôfurunn an' three kids, an' me mum's husband, Deniel.
2. Where and when were you born?
They tell me I was born in the Year of Settlement 1499, an' that makes me fifteen years old now. But no one seems to know the day. They says I'm a summer child, born in the sign of the Cat, if ya know how to read the stars rightly. I was born in Difelin, though I traveled all over Iathrann a couple years ago. 'Vagabond' me uncle Dalach calls me, just like me old man.
3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
Me mum is Gwaeddan. I never knew me Da. Ma says he was cursed, an' that's why he didn't stick around, why he couldn't stick around. But he was a vagabond, a drifter, like me. Ma an' Jôfurunn makes money takin' in laundry, but it ain't near enough, an' her husband Deniel, he ain't good for nothin' since he's so old, nothin' 'cept settin' around starin' at the fire. So it's me an' me Uncle Dalach what earns the livin' fer our family, by fightin' in the Bull Ring.
Ma married Deniel a few years ago, when I was five. Fer the life o'me I don't know why. He's a dandy an' a spendthrift, hostile, hot-tempered, slothful an' a liar. He's also unstable, on account of he fought in the wars back in the day. I think Ma married him on account of she felt bad fer him.
If anyone's been like a Pa to me, it's been me Uncle Dalach. He ain't really me uncle, bein' Ma's cousin, but he was orphaned at a young age an' was raised by me Ma's parents as if he was Ma's brother, so he's as close to a real uncle as I got. He's sloppy of dress an' generally carefree an' a bit—whachacallit?—aloof, I guess. But he's even-tempered an' soft-hearted, truthful an' brave. He an' Ma are both pious worshippers of Trógain. He's a little lazy, but he enjoys husbandry, an' so we got a coop of chickens out the back.
Me Pa, well, I never really knew him. Uncle Dalach says he was a tinker, one of the Travellers. Ma's husband Deniel calls him a vagabond. Ma says it was just as well he didn't stick around, on account of he was cursed somehow. She ain't never said how though, an' I guess it was just the curse of the Travellers' wanderlust wherefore he left us.
4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
I tell ya wha', me ma, she never had no other children but me, so far as I remember. It was just me an' her for the longest time, 'til she married Deniel, but they ain't never had any kids but me, an' he ain't me Da.
So the closest I got to brothers an' sisters is me cousins, Uncle Dalach's three boys. They're younger'n me, but all caught up in the same urchin gangs what I was caught up in when I was their age.
Crimthann is the oldest, an' he's only eight years old, but he's already runnin' the streets with a sword in his hand, fightin' against the other urchin gangs. He's dirty, paranoid, an' rash, insensitive an' unforgiving; reminds me of me at that age. But he's also sober, mean with whatever money he gets, brave an' very honorable. I tell ya wha', he loves exotic animals, like they gots at the circuses.
Vígald is just four, an' he's a handful to be sure. But the cutest is Faílbe, he's just a year old.
Their mum, me uncle Dalach's wife, Jôfurunn, she ain't like a ma to me, so I guess she's more like an older sister. She an' Dalach only married about nine years ago, when I was four an' she was sixteen. I tell ya wha', she's selfish an' a little ragged, but she's sober an' cheerful an' mostly virtuous, 'ceptin' she likes to play at dice an' bet on the games when Dalach fights, so she's a bit of a spendthrift an' she's got the family in debt near as much as I do.
5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
I live in the Snarl, around back from the river, by the old mine, with Uncle Dalach, his wife an' three boys, an' me Ma an' her husband. It's an old, wattle-and-daub round house with a sad little garden for vegetables an' a few chickens.
6. What is your occupation?
I'm a gladiator in the Bull Ring of Difelin, like me Uncle Dalach, only I tell ya wha', I'm the only girl what fights in the ring, slave or free. It ain't an easy way to make a livin', I have to work out all the time, but with the help of me Uncle Dalach an' me trainer Breasal, I been doin' alright so far, 'ceptin' for the time I lost me eye. That kinda sucked.
7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
I stands about fourteen hands high [4'7" tall] an' weighs about eight stone [111 lbs]. I gots broad shoulders an' a narrow waist an' hips, with strong thighs an' upper arms. Me bust is still kinda small [bra 32B], but me Ma says I'm still growin'. I'm a native Gallavan with smooth pink skin, an' that's harder an' harder to come by in Difelin, what with all the Yoruans settled in the city. I gots long auburn hair, locked in lots of little braids, decorated with shells an' beads. Me one good eye, the right one, is brown. Me left one used to be brown too, afore I lost it in the Bull Ring. Now, I gots a scar from me hair line through me left eye, an' down me left cheek into me left shoulder, an' no left eye what to speak of.
Outside the Ring, I tell ya wha', I like dark, loose-fitting clothes, for comfort. In the Ring, I only wear a loincloth an' fasciae on me legs. Remindin' the menfolk that I'm a girl makes them hesitate, so I let me teats stand out.
8. To which social class do you belong?
We're lower class, me family. Uncle Dalach calls us 'villeins,' meanin' we're freeborn, but not free to leave the city an' live someplace else, on account of we owe service to the crown.
9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
I tell ya wha', aside from me bad left eye an' the scar on me face an' me left arm, nope, I'm fit as a fiddle.
10. Are you right- or left-handed?
I'm right-handed, like all good people.
11. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
I guess I says 'I tell ya what' kinda a lot.
12. What do you have in your pockets?
Not much, I tell ya wha'. A few silver skatta, an' some pennigars, an' that's about it.
13. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
I pick at me teeth with a stick a lot, I don't really knows why, it's just an old habit. An' Uncle Dalach says I'm a little paranoid, which ain't no surprise, growin' up in the Snarl like I did, with gangs always out to get each other. An' I got a real dreadful fear of snakes, I tell ya wha'.
