The Family Tradition
A young adult, no older than 23, was in front of a burly man about 45 years old. Whereas the older man had on a semi-formal attire that outlined his burly build, the younger male had a sweater and jeans with his hair in a messy ponytail
Xander: So uh, what's up dad?
(Take away the lip and chin piercings but keep the eyebrow piercings)
Zion: Son, it's time I tell you about the family secret.
Xander: Family secret? What family secret?
Xander looked at his father in confusion. Xander is the son of Zion Guttur, a well known wildlife expert, zookeeper, and conservationist. His mother, Aisha Guttur, is a scientist with a zoology and biology degree as well as the owner of a veterinary clinic, so his parents are pretty well off and he has a comfy inheritance. However, he is fully aware of his parents' darker, more shadier businesses. His father is a poacher and illegal hunter, and his name is Menagerie. He has STRANGELY not been caught even after 30 years of poaching. His mother is an exotic animal dealer who sells clothing, parts, and even illegal exotic animals to the highest buyers. Does he care? Not really. It got him a comfy house, juicy inheritance, blue blood connections to shady but powerful people, and even a pet Bengal and White tiger. I mean how cool is that?
Zion: It's the secret to our ability.
Another thing the Guttur bloodline is known for is its male hereditary ability Devour. Every holder of the Devour ability calls it something different, like Xander's case in it being Predator. Devour allows the males of the Guttur family to mimic the traits of animals they've consumed, leading them to pick careers that would put them close to large sources of meat and animals, like explorers, soldiers, scientists, hunters, and butchers. Xander is no different, taking a more modern twist on his family profession with plans to become a Wildlife YouTuber and Streamer so he could travel with his connections and not be a stereotypical lazy rich playboy.
Zion: Going back to your ancestor all the way back in 1922, we always got transported to fantasy worlds. It's who we've had weirder forms when using our abilities
Xander: Wait what? You're joking, right?
Zion: Does this look like a joke?
Zion suddenly turned into an anthropomorphic Red Dragon, surprising Xander. When he was a kid, Xander had seen Zion take on some pretty freaky forms, but he assumed they were just things he made through trial and error. He hadn't expected something as crazy as this.
Xander: Freaky....but so cool....
Zion turned back and motioned Xander to follow him. Xander did so and followed his father to a secret entrance, which they used their animal abilities to go through. Xander marveled at the various paintings and items in the secret chamber, his eyes falling on taxidermied animals that belonged in a video game or anime he'd usually read.
Zion: I wanted your mother to be here to see you off, but she insisted I go ahead and do it while you're young and full of adventure or whatever the fuck she said.
Xander chuckled at his father. Zion was never one for theatrics or ceremonies, often writing letters and sending messages to those giving him awards or accolades to send in the mail, but Aisha scolded him and they would go as a family. Zion took out a box and gave Xander some clothes. He looked a little confused but shrugged and went into a room to change. 10 minutes later, he came out with his new attire.
Xander: This....was unfunnily hard to put on.
Zion: I wore a suit of armor during my time, but I felt this would suit you better. Oh and you'll need this, that training isn't gonna go to waste.
Xander: Holy fuck....is that?
Zion: Yes yes, a sword from one of those games you play.
Xander: Dad...you got me the Silver Knight Straight Sword from Dark Souls, of COURSE, I'd be excited.
Zion gave his sun a small chuckle before reaching in his pocket and pulling out a blue crystal.
Zion: Just a nifty ability you'll get once you go there. Your mother already gave you her gift before she left.
Xander: She did?
Zion nodded and pointed to his chest.
Zion: The trace she did over your chest, it'll give you a talent for magic once you go there.
Xander: Magic?
Zion shook his head at Xander's excitement for magic. He kicked aside the carpet on the floor to reveal something similar to a magic circle on the floor. Xander got the picture and stood in its center as the circle glowed.
Zion: Good luck son.
Xander: Thanks, dad.
-In the New World-
In the middle of a forest, there was an ominous red glow. That glow got brighter and brighter until Xander emerged from the other side. He looked around and marveled at the natural beauty of the place, being used to scenes like this as a nature streamer but it had a different wonder to it, magical almost. Xander felt something warm in his pocket. Curious, he took out the blue crystal his father gave him only for it to shatter explosively into what seems like hundreds of small shards.
Xander: Ack-!
He covered his eyes, slowly peeking to see a blue, semi-transparent screen.
'Welcome Xander!'
Xander: Wait is this a fucking System?!
'Correct, and I would like to congratulate you on following your family's footsteps!'
Xander: Alright, so what's your deal? You do anything special?
'Not in the normal sense. I am merely an archive of your information to show what skills you possess and what Skills you can buy.'
Xander: Did you say Skills?
'Yes! Would you like to see your current list of Skills?'
Xander: Oh hell yeah.
The System window converts to a new screen with 'Skills' at the top of it.
Predator (LV MAX): Your hereditary ability that allows you to mimic the traits of creatures you've eaten.
Manaheart (LV 1): A gift from your mother that allows you to harness and condense mana to utilize magic
- Spell Eater: A combination of your mother's Manaheart ability and your father's Devour ability. By consuming that magic, you are able to use or purchase that form of magic as a Skill at a discount based on your level of mastery with your Manaheart
Manatite Core Technique (LV 1): Absorb Mana to form circles around his Manaheart to reinforce it. The current number of circles is 3
(It's the Asrahan core technique but the System renamed it to fit Xander)
Xander's eyes widen as he smiles. Even if his Skill count is small, they're all pretty useful in their own way. He stretched a bit as he walked out of the forest, finding a main dirt road to walk along. He felt a presence behind him, a surprisingly crushing one at that. He turned around to see a man holding some kind of pink energy ball menacingly.
Man: Drop all of your valuables and you can escape with your life.
Xander:.....what?
The Man was clearly annoyed by Xander's unbothered demeanor and pointed the energy ball at him.
Man: I am not in the mood to joke around. Relinquish your valuables else I will kill you.
Xander: Uh....look pal, you can just walk away right now and we can just go about our business like civilized humans. Or-
Suddenly, Xander was forced onto his knees by some unseen crushing pressure. He grits his teeth as he tries to get up.
Man: A shame really. You seem with your whole life ahead of you.
But to the man's surprise, Xander was able to pull out his sword. Merely shaking his head, he shot the orb of magic at Xander, who sliced it but was surrounded by a black aura. The man clenched his hand, aiming to crush Xander with his magic. Unfortunately....
'New Skill avaliable: Gravity Magic.'
Xander:....huh?
Xander seemingly sliced through the magic, but he actually absorbed it. Xander and the man stared at each other silently before the man frantically....flew away?
Man: What the hell is up with all of these strong young swordsmen!?
Xander: Uh.....what-what was that?
'That man was an Enchanter, the magical equivalent to a weapon user or martial artist. The Manatite Core Technique absorbed the mana from the attack to activate Spell Eater.'
Xander: So....I can use that guy's...Gravity Magic as you called it?
'Correct. This time is free.'
Xander:....cool...I honestly don't know what to say...Oh, how do I earn stuff to buy skills?
Xander was walking as he spoke to the System. Since he was alone, no one would think he was crazy.
'Skill points are can be used to purchase or upgrade skills. Skill points can be earned from fighting, increasing reputation, or helping others.'
Xander nodded as he whistled, wandering around the place.
The next day
It was currently night and Xander was still wandering around with nothing to do. He had practiced a bit with his Gravity magic, finding out that he could send it into his sword and send someone flying back or make his sword seem heavier than a normal one. He passed by a cave as he whistled, but the System caught his attention.
'Xander, there are potential targets in this mine.'
Xander: Hm?
Xander sniffed around the entrance before he drooled a bit. He smelled a beast, and a unique one at that. Crouching down, he took off into a sprint as he ran into the cave, which seemed to have been converted into a mine. As he ran, he noticed the breathable air was getting thinner and thinner, making him smirk.
Xander: Oh you think I can't survive in some place like this?
Xander was talking to the beast he had yet to find. What he did find, however, was two men running from and fighting a swarm of large ants. Xander threw his sword. His hand glows purple as he increases its weight, crushing through the shell of an ant trying to kill the swordsman from behind.
???: Who are you?
Xander grabbed his sword and countered an Ant's mandible.
Xander: Name's Xander. Don't worry, I'm on your side.
The brown haired male merely nodded as Xander helped the blue haired one. The trio fought their way deeper into the cave, which started to concern the brown haired male about their new ally.
Brown: Are you dizzy at all?
Xander: Not even close. A little Hypoxia can't stop me.
The brown haired male was surprised while the blue haired one was confused but kept fighting. As Xander and the blue haired male fought, the brown haired one started digging. Suddenly, there was an ear-piercing screech. Suddenly, an ant much larger than the workers appeared, towering over the three.
Xander: That seems to be the Queen....
Brown: She's ginormous!
Xander: That means she has....ginormous ant guts!
Brown: Javier, can you hold her back?
Javier: No.
Brown: Why don't you tell me that when you try?
Javier: There are some things you know without trying.
Brown: What about you Xander?
Xander: Not at all, but I have no problem trying. Then again, we don't have a choice now, do we?
The Ant queen swings her leg at the trio, but Javier gathers mana and counters it, surprising the Ant queen.
Xander: Huh, another Mana user?
Xander jumped at a height that surprised his allies and kicked the Ant Queen in the head, making it roar in pain.
Javier: Amazing...
The two swordsmen fought off the Ant queen and her workers as the brown haired male was digging. Xander heard a grunt before smelling something.
Xander: Is that meth-are you gonna blow this place up?!
Brown: Yes, now run to the exit!
Xander and Javier followed the brown haired male, who threw his torch at the Ant queen. It bounced off her carapace and into a small hole, igniting the methane leak. This caused an explosion to occur, prompting Javier to cover the brown haired one but Xander covered Javier. The explosion left their ears ringing, but unharmed beyond that. They all got up to see the dead Ant queen buried half way under the rubble.
Xander: Well you got it at least....hey ant corpses. Wait what the fuck is that?
Javier was unconscious from the lack of oxygen while the brown haired male was still conscious, though a bit woozy. Xander was referring to the pink snake with a bow on its head that the brown haired male picked up.
Brown: I'm....a summoner and this is Bangul, she's my summon.
Xander: Mmhm, yeah dude I know you're lying but considering the situation, I'm not gonna press you. I mean, look.
Xander pointed to the collapsed hole, which made the brown haired male silently curse. The brown haired shakily got up and mumbled to himself.
Brown: I have to dig more than 15 feet in that direction...
Xander: You mean WE have to.
Xander put a hand on his shoulder.
Xander: It's smart for me to help you. You look like you'll collapse in a strong breeze.
With a dry chuckle, the brown haired male and Xander started digging. He was surprised to see Xander digging with his hands like an animal, but he didn't complain.
'For touching their hearts with your determination to help, you have been awarded 1 Skill point.'
-10 minutes later-
The brown haired male collapsed from exhausting his Mana, but Xander caught him.
Brown: You're....still alive?
Xander: Yeah, I can breathe perfectly fine. Don't worry, I got this.
Brown:....Lloyd.
Xander: Hm?
Lloyd: My name....it's Lloyd
Nodding, Xander walked to the remaining dirt and started digging even faster. As he dug, something popped out of the dirt.
Xander: That....that's a hamster.
Shrugging, Xander finally managed to dig a hole out. The sudden influx of oxygen gave Lloyd the determination to get up, but he felt himself get lifted off the ground.
Xander: Don't worry buddy, I got ya.
Xander carried Lloyd and Javier through the mine with the creature, who kept repeating 'Ppodong', on his shoulder.
The next day
Xander and Javier were in a room with a sleeping Lloyd. When Lord Frontera found Xander with the two unconscious boys, he was immediately taken in for questioning, which he complied with so long as he wasn't attacked. Everyone was grateful for him helping and risking his life to help Lloyd and Javier, but he waved it off saying it was the right thing to do.
Xander: '1 Skill point from the Baron and 2 for helping those two in the mine, sweet! But what to buy?'
Javier: Who are you?
Xander: Pardon?
Javier: I mean, who are you? You somehow knew we were in trouble and even risked your life to dig us out.
Xander: Well....can you keep a secret?
