Chapter 42- Zero (Part 3)

A grey fog seeped into view.
Silas' eyes opened and he was staring into the abyss.

He looked around but no one was there.
"Hello? Where am I?"

Get up.

"Wh-who said that?"

You're needed, Silas.

"I-I don't know what you mean."

Get up!

"I don't know how!"

Silas swiftly turned around, as if that would help him find the owner of the voice.
"How is this possible? Am I dead?"

No. You must reach into the part of you buried so deep. Activate it.

"I don't understand."

ACTIVATE IT.

"I don't know how to!"

You're needed, Silas. People need to be saved. You're the only one who can save them.

"Me? I'm not a hero."

You must become one. It is your duty to protect others.

"But I don't know how."

Activate it, Silas.

"Activate what?"

The part of yourself that's keeping you alive right now.

"I don't know what part that is."

You don't have much time. They're dying. You must protect them.

"I'm just an ordinary teen."

With robot genes.

A burst of electricity jolted through Silas' body, running through his veins. He felt as if acid had been poured into his veins.

He let out a piercingly loud scream and his eyes flew open. He sat up, his body fully energised.

He felt a pain in his chest when he saw his unconscious friends.

Brain cells start to die when you've gone one minute without oxygen, but something felt different. The clock on the wall froze in place.

Out of the corner of his eye, Silas saw blue orbs circling around Maya's body. He rushed over to her.
"Maya, wake up!
Come on, wake up!
I need you!"

Despite his effort, the girl wouldn't wake up. He slammed his fist on the ground.
"Please, wake up!
I can't do this on my own."

"Mr. Silas?", called out a familiar voice.

Silas' eyes widened and he turned in the direction of the noise.
"Katie? Katie, it's Silas!"

"Mr. Silas, I am in this room.
Do you require assistance?"

Silas laughed.
"Yes, yes, I do!"

"Please open this door and I will help you."

Silas' face fell.
"No, Katie, we're trapped!
I need you to break the door down!"

"Mr. Silas it's a metal door.
I do not have super strength."

"No, but you do have super intellect. Find the weakest point of the door and use as much force as you can do push it open!"

"Mr. Silas, I cannot!
There are too many electrical signals. It's disrupting my-"

"-Katie, please! Ok, just... just listen to my voice. Focus on my voice.
Break the door down and walk towards my voice."

"I do not know if I can."

"You can! I believe in you.
Our friends are dying.
They need you!
Please, just walk towards my voice."

After what seemed like a few seconds, Katie's door crashed to the ground, revealing Katie, who was riddled with wires.

Silas smiled.
"Yes, Katie!
You did it!
Ok, now... you see that lever?
I can't reach it.
I need you to push it up for me."

Katie nodded and made her way over to the lever. She stumbled, grabbing into the cage for support.
"I think I am malfunctioning. Something is wrong."

Unsure of what to do, Silas reached for Katie's hand. The minute their hands touched, jolts of electricity coarsed through his veins and into her wiring.

Her eyes turned a glowing grey and she straightened her posture. Seemingly rejuvenated, Katie grabbed the lever and pushed it down.

A spark from the lever jumped onto the cage, sending Silas flying.

A blinding white light spread across the room. The blue orbs around Maya had disappeared.

Professor Harrow stirred, his eyes opening slowly. One by one, the others started to wake up.

"Wh-what happened?", questioned Azlan.

"Are we in heaven?", asked Quinn. "Ugh, why is Minion in my heaven?"

"Get over yourself, you've got Hell written all over you", replied Bennett.

A smile appeared on Quinn's lips.

"Guys, I'm thirsty", said Yukishiro.

"You just gained consciousness and you want a drink?", asked Professor Harrow.

"I don't get it.
Shouldn't we be dead?", asked Azlan.

"Mr. Silas saved you", said Katie.

Their eyes widened as they heard Katie's voice.

"Oh my God, Katie! You're ok!", smiled Quinn.

"Thank God", said Azlan.

"What's with all the wires?", asked Bennett.

"Wait, you said Silas saved us?", asked Professor Harrow.

They all turned to the silent boy. He just shrugged.

"Not good enough.
I need an explanation here", said Azlan.

Silas sighed.
"I don't know what happened.
I just woke up in this... empty space. And I heard a voice telling me I needed to activate something.
That I needed to save you.
Then I woke up."

"But... it takes a minute for brain cells to start dying. I don't feel any different", said Professor Harrow, and the others nodded in agreement.

"I don't know how, but I think Maya somehow slowed time down just a enough for Katie and I to get the oxygen levels running again.
No time passed at all, really", explained Silas.

"Maya", said Quinn, quickly looking at the girl.

Maya rested her chin on her knees, hands clasped around her legs. Tears formed in her eyes.

"Maya?", called out Azlan.

"She's not talking.
Why isn't she talking?", yelled Quinn.

"She's ok", said Silas.

"Does she look ok to you?", asked Quinn.

"How do you know, Silas?", asked Azlan.

"I can't explain it.
I can just... feel her energy.
It's just a lot for her to take in.
She'll be ok."

Quinn wrapped her arms around Maya, and the others soon joined in.

"We've got you, Maya", said Professor Harrow.

After checking that Katie was ok, the group made their way out of Phillip's underground lab.

"What I don't get is why nothing is wrong with Katie?", questioned Bennett.

"It must've been a trap", said Azlan.

"Well it doesn't matter now.
We've got Katie", said Silas.

"What are you guys doing here?", asked a familiar voice.

The group turned around to see Elodie.

"Elodie?", questioned Yukishiro.
"Why are you in Mr. Everett's house?"

"My Mum's his maid.
He offered us a place to stay a few months ago so she took it", replied Elodie.
"Now can you answer my question?"

Katie felt a rush of electricity building up inside of her, so she closed her eyes in an attempt to prevent them from changing colour.

"Is Katie ok?", asked Elodie.

"She uh, has... gas", said Bennett.

Elodie's eyes widened in surprise, but she smiled politely.
"Oh.
Ok, um well there's no toilet in
Mr. Everett's room."

Elodie's eyes landed on Maya, who was staring at the ground in silence. Elodie took a deep breath, seemingly preparing herself for something.
"Um, Maya? I want to say-"

"-SYSTEM'S NEED RE-BOOTING!"

"SYSTEM'S NEED RE-BOOTING!"

"SYSTEM'S NEED RE-BOOTING!"

Katie started spinning around frantically. Yukishiro quickly started spinning around too.
"SYSTEM'S NEED RE-BOOTING!", he yelled.

Bennett and Azlan joined in too, though they kept bumping into each other.

Katie suddenly stopped, and she stared at Elodie. Her eyes flashed a pale grey, before flashing a pale blue.

Elodie's eyes widened, and she recoiled.
"Is... is Katie a robot?"
