Chapter 1 pt 3

I didn't actually write this week. Good thing I wrote ahead prior to posting this. Here you go.

Ward's brother is on the loose. Someone is murdering people. Ward still needs to earn the trust of his old teammates. Will they ever become a team again? Will they find the murderer? What is in store for this team next?

Simmons pulls off her gloves. "She died of blood loss. He slowly cut the marks, and she died before it was over."

Coulson adds, "Our markings are more complete."

I nod, "One more thing, I checked up and she used to be an agent. Died of cancer a few years ago, apparently."

Coulson processes the information. "Alright. I'm going into the machine."

My eyes widened, "No!"

Coulson ignores me, "Simmons, prep it." Simmons tries to say no, but he overrules her. "We have no other choice."

Sighing, Simmons starts prepping the machine. She catches my eye, and we have a silent agreement. I nod at her, and mumble, "I'm going to check on Ward."

Ward's Recovery Room

I sit beside Ward, as I try to get ahold of May. So far no response. I'm about ready to give up when May contacts me. "Skye. Surprisingly, our team experienced no losses. We're coming home."

"May, thank the Lord that you survived. Coulson is going through the memory machine. I can't talk him out of it. May, you have that kind of authority. Hurry home." I say, I start to hang up, but Ward speaks up.

"Look, May. Did my brother . . . kill anyone?" He asks, hesitantly. "Did any citizens die? Any . . . kids?"

May hesitates. "A young girl lost her mom. A man died. Some young teenager. A young boy. A janitor, and a cop."

Ward drags a hand over his face. "That many?"

I put my hand against his back, to comfort him. He starts to cry, deep racking sobs. I hug him while he pathetically attempts to hide his emotions. He can't though, and I'm glad. It made him seem . . . human. Like he could actually feel, and wasn't a HYDRA tool bag.

I tell May to hurry again and terminate the link. I console Ward . . . Grant . . . over the loss of those lives. "It's not your fault, Ward. Your brother killed them."

He nods, but I can see he doesn't believe it. May should be here soon, so I tell him to stay here, while I wait for May.

I don't have to wait long. May comes quickly and storms inside. "Where is he?"

"Follow me," I say, moving as fast as my S.O. "He's in here." I finish as we reach the room Coulson is in.

May shuts it down and takes Coulson out. He complains, but he tells us about Seaver and Thompson.

May growls, "We need to put you in isolation. You're growing unstable, Coulson."

"No, I need to figure it out. I'm so close!" He says, and storms out.

I sigh and look at May. "Ward's upset. I think he blames himself."

May nods, "I know. That's why I didn't tell him that his brother demanded we hand Ward over, or he'll kill more people."

My jaw drops. "Really? May, we can't -"

"Make the deal? I know." May sighs, "He may have done bad things, but if we let his brother take him, Ward . . . Grant Ward . . . will die. That isn't the justice system. We have to find another way."

I nod, but before we can start planning, Hunter runs up and gasps out, "Coulson left. Said something about finding the missing piece of the puzzle."

We look at him, then each other, "May" I start, "You stay here and oversee things. Prepare a team for backup. I think I'll need it. I'll go get Coulson."
