24: Forgive Me Not (End Game Part 2)

Alarms blaring, flashing red lights, and a garbled voice saying that there was an intruder alert...

Yup, that's about right. I pause at the corner, catching my breath and thinking about what had just happened. Mardu, the idiot, why was he trying to talk me out of this? He's the enemy, he and dad both are. Sending me to these "Wolves" people, whoever they are, I have a feeling that isn't a Five Star island Resort complex. And here Mardu was, trying to tell me to stop, to give up? So, what, they can send me to some horror house?!

I check my revolvers and pull both hammers back, listening to my surroundings. I could hear footsteps from on the other side of the doors, and I could see a guard running at terminal velocity right at me. I hear one door open at the far side of the hall, and raise my pistol, aiming right out the window at him. He slows slightly, eyes locked with mine, and hesitates. A moment later, he steps back, seeing the glaring fire in my eyes, and runs away.

"Ha... Wise choice." I murmur, before continuing towards the Document Room, moving as fast as I could, not wanting to encounter any more resistance. And I don't, thankfully. I reach the door with no issues. However, the keypad was dark. Someone had turned off the power to the room's entry pad. I growl in frustration and look the door over, biting my lower lip and taking a breath. "Come on, Tyler, how are we gonna get through this..." I whisper, then gently move and press my hand against the door. If I could only use Light. If I could just use Light, I could burn a hole through it with Plasma Fire. But, it all ended when Saber died. I felt it, the feeling of her power leaving me. And every time I tried, it hurt. I could only do the smallest bit. I could only do so little.

"Oh, Saber... I'll avenge you... For you, this I will do..." I whisper gently, closing my eyes for a moment before a gentle voice speaks a moment later.

"Tyler?... What... What are you doing?" I hear, and my eyes widen, spinning around with both revolvers raised towards the speaker. No... It can't be...

Saber tilts her head gently and steps back slightly. "Saelfien... Are you really going to shoot me?..." She asks in shock, eyes gently widening.

"How are you alive?... Caedrienth... Hell, I saw you... I grieved for you..." I say quietly, stepping back slightly. "You can't be alive..."

"But... Can't I be, Tyler, my dear Rider? Can't I be alive?" Saber asks with a small smirk, flicking her tail, and I feel a faint smile tug at my lips, suppressing it quickly. "Come on, Tye... It's me... Put the guns down, it's okay."

"Saber, they're going to send me... send US... to the Wolves... This is the only way that I can keep us safe... I can't stop, not now..." I say quietly, and Saber stands a bit straighter, looking a bit solemn, yet determined, a look I have never seen her take before. And a sadness to her, like I disappointed her.

"Then... I have to stop you." And my eyes widen, leaping to the side as a bolt of light sears past me, scoring the wall behind where I had been.

"SABER!" I yell in shock, and she growls, taking an offensive stance, wings extended to block escape past her, tail flashing slowly, her ears back and eyes blazing. "I am your RIDER! What are you doing?!"

"I am protecting you from yourself, Rider. Submit, and I will take you in without hurting you." Saber growls dangerously, and I take a breath. This couldn't be Saber, could it? She would never align against her own Rider, would she? I get my answer when I duck and roll out of the way of another Light Bolt, the bolt scoring the wall behind me.

"Submit, Tyler. Just... give in..." She huffs, looking more and more agitated. "Please... I don't want to hurt you... Just... give up."

I bite my lower lip, gripping my pistol tightly and aiming at Saber, her eyes narrowing. "Saber... You're my partner. My dragon friend... The best thing that has ever happened to me, please don't make me do this?!"

Saber growls gently, watching me warily before she flares her wings. "Why won't you accept it, Tyler!" She snaps, causing me to hesitate. The anger in her voice... that was real. "I am alive, and I will not let you jeopardize the others. I love you, my Rider, but this... THIS is not the way to get vengeance!..." She states, then lowers her beautiful head and pushes it against my Revolvers, staring into my eyes. "If you really want to do this... Then you're going to have to kill me... Go ahead... Shoot."

I blink, before taking a breath. Saber falls silent as I stare at her, shocked and uncertain. They said that she was dead. Fox never lies, I know she wouldn't do so to me, especially. And yet, Saber was here, her head pressed into my guns gently. Her hypnotizing eyes boring into my eyes. And I make my final decision.

Two loud bangs sound out, almost simultaneously. The faintest whisper of a breath leaves the Light Dragoness who was once my partner, before she collapses, eyes closing gently. My revolvers quake in my hands gently, before they fall from my hands and clatter to the ground. I couldn't stop staring at her body. Her graceful form just lying there lifelessly... And it was my fault she's like this. Stepping back, I take a breath, eyes wide in pain.

"S... Saber, I... I'm sorry, Saber... F-Forgive me, please... I..." I whisper, before turning and running for the door again, the light on the pad having turned green and the door faintly opening, a bit of smoke roiling from the plate under the pad. I pull the door open quickly and move inside, pulling it closed behind me as the lights flicker on dimmly. I wipe the tears from my eyes and takes a breath, before rushing over to the Desktop computer in the corner, typing furiously while pushing a small flash-drive into the slot.

Quickly passing the firewall, I start transferring copies of all the needed files while checking my surroundings for hidden doors and things that would mean an ambush. All that I see is a small camera that was turning slowly with my movements. I pause, looking up at it cautiously, and that is when I hear it.

A soft, gentle hissing of a handful of nozzles hidden away. My eyes widen and I quickly cover my nose and mouth with my shirt, realizing that they were filling the room with something, and I rush back over to the computer. And just as I reach it, it gives off a gentle ding. Swiping the Flashdrive from the slot, I cap it and focus hard on making it vanish, sending it to whoever this Keith guy was, but then it hits me. I could send it to Fox, and as I think of doing it, the Drive flickers and vanishes, a tight pain blossoming behind my eyes. "AH... Hey... that wo-"

I jump in fright and back up as the door bursts open and two men come inside, both with brass covered knuckles and one leaving my hair on end. Lightning Rider, and a Metal Rider. Oh, man...

"Stop where you are, kid. It's over." One grunts through the mask, while the other snorts almost.

"Dude, how long have you wanted to say that?" The other comments, cracking his knuckles while I start to feel a little light headed. My shirt wasn't filtering the gas, fantastic. I grit my teeth, taking a deep breath through my shirt, then holding it. "Whatever the case, kid, yeah.... It's over. Just come here, nice and easy-"

I rush forward, grabbing the wireless keyboard as I run, and I launch at the Lightning Dragon Rider. His eyes widen and he barely has time to cry out before he gets QWERTY put across his forehead. He stumbles back, and I jab the keyboard into his chest like a spear, sending him onto his back from the force, and I leap back as the Metal Rider grabs for me.

"Damn, your fast. Stand still before I make you!" He snaps, swinging to grab my shoulder and I deflect his hand by using the Keyboard remains like a shield. "Give up, kid, don't make this worse than it is now!" He snaps angrily, before launching at me with hands outstretched. I drop and roll forward, tucking into a ball and evading the male who crashes into the wall headfirst. That had to hurt...

Grabbing his buddy as he tries to get up, I unlatch the gasmask and rail him in the stomach to knock the wind from him. The Zap gasps heavily twice, then his eyes widen as he realizes what I did, and he slumps unconscious a moment later. I push the mask onto my face and quickly fasten it, taking a deep breath of filtered air a second before I would have been gasping for air. I look towards the Metal Rider, groaning in the corner. Smirking a little, I turn back towards the door, and pain erupts as there is a bright flash of light, stars, then...

Nothingness.

Hey guys, PurelyHalfDragon here. Been a long time coming, and I know this isn't the greatest... I've taken a long hiatus from here, and my writing skills have slacked a bit. I'm hoping to start the new book soon, but until then, please enjoy a bonus chapter after this.

Till then~!
