A Test and a secret

The next day at school, we received large, thick packets in 8th hour.

"Alright class, please do your very best, the highest grade out of the schools will become Dr. Banner's personal intern! Any cheating caught will have dramatic solutions, and dealt accordingly. You'll have an extra hour added onto school to get them done."

There were excited murmurs, but all of them seemed to be about Hulk, not Bruce. His blood would be boiling if he heard this, he hates that people never recognize him for his achievements, just the big guy.

"Now class settle down. Don't be discouraged if you find it hard, this test was technically designed for college students. Just do your best and remember that you can't actually fail." Called Mr.Harrington over the noise, grabbing the stacks of thick packets to hand out.

After Mr.Harrington passes out the packets, I grabbed my pencil and look at it. Wow, maybe we were given the wrong test? This all is actually very easy! I quickly fly through the questions, rarely having to stop and think extra hard, before finding the last page. This one wasn't about biology or any of Bruce's work, but rather about us.

Those questions were rather straightforward and described the kind of person we are. The last question however, threw me for a loop. It asked why I should become Bruce's intern, and I decided to answer as bluntly or honestly as possible.

"You probably shouldn't," I wrote, "There are probably a bunch of people who did better than me. But the reason I am here writing this is because of my interest in biology, and natural radiations. I am almost certainly not the best choice, but either way someday I will end up working in biology. Did you know that nature really does seem to have a mind of its own? Fate works the same way. We can make choices and alter out destinies, but in the end life has a mind of its own and all shall be as it will. Not to mention the work you do seems to go unnoticed a lot by fans of Hulk, but nature is the same way. I try to be like it and see the little things, to listen and know what few give mind to. I hope you find the intern you were meant to have."

I set my pencil down, and double check all my answers and look for spelling errors. Finding none, I stretch for a moment and bring my packet to the teacher. Looking around discreetly, I realize I was the first one to finish and I still had an hour to kill.

Shrugging, I sit back down and grab the book Scythe that Loki gave me. Next time I visit I'll have to ask for the second one.

I notice that people are staring at me, but I ignore it. One by one people trickle to the front of the room to turn in their packets, and after a boring hour I finish the book and were released to go home for the day. Walking out to the front, I catch MJ and we both go over to where Peter and Ned are talking,

"-Ned I know I won't get the internship, but you really do have a chance..."

"You both have a chance," Interupts MJ, who picks at her cuticles in boredom, "You guys are the smartest losers I know. You both have a chance at Stark's internship, just like Tidedancer does with Banner's."

I look over to her, "Thanks but I probably won't get it either, there are a lot of STEM schools to choose from. But how about you?" I ask, slinging an arm around her and Peter's shoulders (Ned was too far away), "MJ, you have a big chance of getting to work with Ms.Potts, they would be a fool to not let one strong woman work with another!"

I turn to Peter, who was fidgeting nervously, "And you are probably the smartest guy in the school, along with Ned. Stark would be very idiotic for a genius if he didn't enlist one of you."

Peter blushed in embarrassment before realizing, "Well then stop saying you won't get to work with Dr.Banner! From what I've seen at your place, you probably have some skills in biology that people could only dream of! I remember some of your hybrid plants, I doubt anyone else here could make those!"

I raise my brow, "And how do you know about my hybrid herbs? I only brought you to the food garden."

He fiddled with the hem of his shirt, "I may or may not have snuck out at one point to look around."

I sigh, "Of course, what else would I expect from a curious spider?"

Ned, MJ, and Peter all looked at me in surprise, before pulling me into an alley where Peter spoke in panic whispers, "How do you know about that?!"

I roll my eyes, "Same build, same voice. You guys may be quiet enough at lunch the rest of the school can't hear, but it's loud enough for me. Not to mention how you painted Festus was kinda a giveaway."

Ned's eyes widened in shock, "Ho-how? I'm his best friend and I only found out after a long time, and it was by accident! MJ I'm not questioning, it's MJ but..."

I hug them all around their shoulders and pull us into a huddle, "Please, you just have to know when to be observant. Know what to listen and look for and how to do so. I can teach you guys," I said, staring right at Ned, "But you'll need to get faster, more patient, sneakier."

Peter snorted, "Not gonna lie, you remind me a bit of Loki right now..." he checked his watch and began to panic, "...Who I'm meant to be learning magic with in ten minutes. I CANNOT be late to my first class, I have to go!" He pulled off his clothes revealing his suit underneath, and stuffed them in his backpack before swinging away.

MJ and I parted ways with Ned as we exited the alleyway, then MJ turned to me. "So," she questioned, "He's been to your place? Also...Hybrid plants?"

I laughed, "Yeah, remember when I got hurt at the beach?" She nodded and I continued, "Well he followed me home. He wasn't the sneakiest, I knew he was there the whole time. Basically he stayed at my place the next day to 'take care of me' or whatever. Basically I have a few diffrent gardens out back where I live, all but one of which have hybrid plants."

She raised an eyebrow, looking up from her sketchbook I hadn't noticed she grabbed, "And what pray tell are in those gardens?"

I shrugged, "Not much. The one without hybrids is produce that I sell to this one guy who runs a market near my home, his name is Mr. Lee. Or Uncle Stan if your me I guess... there's another that has herbs for cooking, one with food that DOES have hybrids, one with medicinal herbs, a small one for flowers, and right beside the medicinal one I actually have some plants that are really? Kinda dangerous. Poisonous actually... should probably not have blabbed that but oh well..."

She laughed, "Yeah, probably not. But hey, it's New York. People just automatically tune everything out, there's enough crazy going on already." She picked at her nails a bit, seeming a bit hesitant about something, "So...do you think I could see your place sometime? Where do you live anyways?"

I brightened a bit, I think I can trust her with this, she clearly is the type that can keep secrets. "Come on! I'll show you!" She chuckles as I drag her to a cab stop, calling my usual ride. His name is Argus, he's a part time cab driver, mainly working in the school year. He doesn't like to talk, but its ok. When I have something to rant about he always listens with a smile. As someone who technically lives a lie here in the city, I know for a fact his smile isn't forced.

When he shows up, he smiles and turns back to the wheel, driving me back to the outskirts of the forest where he normally drops me off. I smile and pay him the fee, waving as I drag MJ to my home.

The look on her face when she sees it is priceless, she was probably expecting an apartment building or a little abandoned house, not a church. I lead her inside, giving her the tour. She seemed very intrested in the art room, I'll have to keep note of that for later. After we finish the tour, minus the gardens, I make a split second decision and take her to my room.

Maybe it's time I got my own girl-in-the-chair.

We sit on my bed, and my face turns serious. Watching her expression seriously I ask, "What do you know about Agent Scythe?"

Lol you thought I was ending it there, nope!

Her brows furrowed, "You mean the newest avenger? Nobody's ever seen her face, and the three people she seems to trust most are Spiderman, Black Widow, and oddly enough, Loki. She carries around a large Scythe and wears  grim-reaper style robes. Apparently she can control wildcats and snakes, Probably other animals too. Why?" MJ tilts her head in confusion.

"MJ, do you promise to keep a secret from EVERYONE, including Peter and Ned?"

"Yes...Why?"

I grab my bracelet and click the moon charm.

"How would you like to be my girl-in-the-chair?"
