The NDE

(Agent Winslow's POV)
I run as fast as I can to the old Mansion and try the door. Locked. I try harder. Locked. I finally get fed up with it and break down the door. "Sorry," I murmur as I walk in. "Bri?!" I call. "Please tell me you're here!" I walk up the staircase only to be tackled back to the bottom. "What the-!" I gasp as a body slams me down. "ALEX!" Comes a gleeful shout from my attacker. Then I notice the leather clad assaulter isn't tackling me, in fact, she's hugging me. "Bri?!" I ask in surprise. It's kinda odd for her to be acting like this. She looks up at me, "When you left, she came back!" She says with a hint of fear in her voice and face. "Liz?" I ask and she nods with a shudder. "I found some salt in the study and hid there until she left. We need to get out of here!" She heaves. "What? What about the case?! This is our last day!" I ask, taken aback. "Forget the case. This place means to kill!" I stare at her face as we stand up. "You're sure?" "Yes!" "OK." That's when I notice something odd. "Bri?" "Yea?" "Why don't you have your dagger?" I ask suspiciously and point to the place on her hip where she always keeps it. She looks down and slowly turns back to me, with a malicious grin. "Because I'm not Bri, and I'm getting out of here. With or with out you!" She flickers a few times from Bri's body to a pale blond girl. Then the flickers become more violent and the bodies open their mouths in a blood curling scream. I cover my ears as the two seem to be fighting themselves. "GET OUT!!" Came Bri's voice. "NO!! I'M GOING TO LEAVE THIS HOUSE!!" Came a richer, slightly British voice that I'm guessing belongs to the blond. "NO. YOU'RE. NOT!" Bri's voice grunts and the scream intensifies. The two bodies fall to the ground and writhe in agony. Then, Bri slowly rolls away from the blond's body. "GAHHH!" She screeches. The transparent blond screams again and flies to another floor. "Bri?!" I call and fall to her body, limp and cold on the ground. "Bri?! Wake up!" I look at her arms and legs, sprawled on the ground, her dark chocolate brown hair, fanned out around her head and face, her favorite leather jacket and ripped jeans, her heavy black combat boots, untied and almost seem heavier on her cold feet, and her beautiful face with it's captivating hazel eyes. "Wake up," I beg softly as I brush the hair out of her face and cry over my best friend. Still sobbing, I lift Bri's body off the floor and carry her out, much to the Blond's dismay, "THIS ISN'T THE LAST OF ME!!! I'LL FIND YOU EVENTUALLY!!" She screeches but I block it out. Nothing matters now except Bri. Not the case, not all of Agent Nightshade's questions, not the Blond girl, not the mansion, not even what I'm going to do now. Just my childhood friend, laying lifelessly in my arms.

I search her pockets for her apartment keys and finally find them and open the door. I watch as her tiny black cat, Salem, slowly walks up to me and sits down right in front of me. It's as though she knows something's up. "Come on, Salem. Let's put her in bed," I whisper to the cat who appears to understand and walks to the bed. As tears start to fill my eyes again, I gently lay Bri's body on the large bed and cover her with the blanket. "I'm so sorry," I murmur as Salem jumps up and sits beside her. "So, so sorry. I-If I hadn't of l-left, this never w-would have h-happened. It's all my f-fault." The tears slowly fall onto the bed sheets as my head falls beside my partner. As an hour passes and my tears begin to slow, a scratch brings my senses back. "Who's there?" I ask into the darkness. An other scratch. I cautiously make my way to the door as the scratches grow louder. "Who is it?" I ask again but the scratches are my only reply. I look through the peep hole and don't see anyone. I slowly crack the door and two dogs push their way in. "What the-!" I gasp. The dogs run to the bed room and I chase after them. When I get there, I see them perched on the side of the bed and I don't believe my eyes. The first dog looks exactly like my first dog, Sirius. I just stare, same tufts of dark, silky fur, same big green eyes, same clawed paws that my big sister used to paint pink, you can see fading pink where she had painted them for his funeral. I didn't even mind then. Sirius noiselessly climbs beside Bri and puts his nose on her forehead. He moves his nose and licks her face, then he makes his way back to where he was sitting and the other dog, looks like a blue healer, climbs up and does the same thing. That's when I realize, neither ruffled the sheets. My dog had died the day I met Bri. Her dog had died a few weeks before. Those dogs are now sitting before me. "S-Sirius?" I whisper and the black dog turns his head at me and I swear he smiled! I smile lovingly at him as the healer licks Bri a second time, on the place where her scar is. "A-are you Ernie?" I ask the healer as he sits back down and his large head bobs. Oh my god. I watch in amazement as the color slowly returns to Bri's face and her chest slowly falls up and down. The dogs jump down, sheets still in moved, and stand at the door, waiting for me to let them out. I slowly walk to the door and kneel down in front of them. "Thank you," I whisper and scratch their head. "Thank you." I find a piece of hot dog in my pocket, I have no idea why I put it there though, and I hold it out to the two. They quickly eat the bits of meat and I open the door for them. When they leave, I walk back to the room and sit in the chair beside the nightstand and fall asleep, counting the times Bri's chest falls, equally great full for each one, and afraid it won't come up again.
