The Dinner

"What about...pizza?" I ask. "Too basic," Winslow replies. "What about...uh...damn it Winslow I'm running out of options!" I sit in the couch, frustrated. "What about this?" He calls from the kitchen. I walk in there and he shows me a cookbook that was shoved up in a cabinet. "Hummmm...lasagna? I'm down," I nod. We hunt down all the ingredients and set to work. "Are you sure you're feeling alright?" Winslow asks me after a couple minuets of awkward silence. "Yea...if fine just feels like someone dropped a binder on my head." He stays silent and I stuff the cheese loaded pasta into the fridge. "What about dessert?" Winslow asks hopefully. "Are you kidding me?" "No. I'm Sirius." "No you're not. You're Winslow. Sirius is cooler." "Ow. Right in the feels." "Ugh. How do you feel about...strudel? It's easy." "Sure!" We gather the stuff and begin to stretch the dough. "You really should open a bakery. You know that right?" Winslow asks. "Humm...that'd be fun, yes," I reply after a second's thought. "What about you? Since the whole Agent career is down the drain, what are you gonna do?" "I dunno. Maybe, write? I could do that. Although, I want a family in all honesty," he murmurs the last part and blushes a bit. "Heh, it's alright. Me too..." NO! I recoil my hand, which I put on his and turn my eyes back to the dough with a stony face. There's that feeling again!! We finish the chocolate chip and cream strudel in silence. "I...I've been thinking..." Winslow whispers with a blush. "About what?" I ask with curiosity. "A-about...erm..." he shakes his head. "N-never mind." I look at him concerned, "Are you sure? Believe it or not, I'm here for you Winslow," Man! I'm doing it again! He smiles gratefully at me. "Thanks Lestrange..."

We had talked the entire time we set up and are surprised to hear the doorbell go off. "That was fast," I say as I walk to my door to let Sadie, Zill, and Brooklyn in. "Hey!" Sadie chirps as we all sit down. I sit between Sadie and Winslow, Brook between him and Zill. I almost growl as she sits down with a flirtatious smile. "So," she asks. "How long have you been working there?" "Well-" I cut him off. "We've all three been there for 6 years." I say emotionlessly but still showing her I'm the alpha here. "You're all Agents, huh? Well you were." Zill fake smiles. These two are getting on my nerves. "Yea. We are." I growl. Winslow looks perplexed at me. "But I thought-" "I am and Agent. Have been for a very long time. I retired, in a way, and Chief Sit-On-His-Arse-All-Day wouldn't put me back in the field," I say, almost leaning on the table, and I mean every bit of it. Everyone falls silent and I sit down, triumphant. Ok this is getting awkward. "So, I've heard you two are transfers?" Sadie asks. "Yea! Born and raised in the force," Brook says proudly. "Cool." After we finish dessert I'm eager to get these two out of my apartment. "Lovely meeting you three but I have to go," Zill waves and Brook follows her. I get up and let them out like a proper hostess and slam the door behind them. "That was awful," I say honestly and flop back into my chair. "So...about what you said...about being an agent?" Winslow asks, hoping for more details. "I moved to this state for a mission in third grade...I-I couldn't tell anyone...I was practically forced into being an agent," I laugh with honest regret. "I just wanted to be normal." Alex stares at me. "I-I have to go feed Sirius," he murmurs. I stand to get the door but he mutters again, "I'll let myself out." "You can go too if you want," I tell Sadie softly and she throws me a look asking, "Are you sure you're OK?" I nod and she follows Alex out. I just want to lay here forever with my kitten. And never leave.
